HBCU Students Starts Food Pantry To Help Classmates

A full time student at Alabama A&M University, desk assistant on campus and fast food restaurant manager has added even more to his full plate.

Justin Franks is an Alabama A&M student on a mission to help his fellow classmate with only a couple dollars and a dream reports WHNT:

“I noticed that there were some students that said they ware going to bed hungry,” explains Franks. “So, I thought about it and said, ‘What can I give back to my community?'”

On $40 and faith, he started a food pantry.

“I started with pretty much just noodles and Capri Suns and I had a few household products like tissue and water,” says Franks.

Franks says donations have poured in from faculty, alumni and different community groups since posting the pantry on Facebook. The student has helped 100 classmates since starting the program and hopes to continue his efforts as the school year progresses.
