“Excessive” Demands

Doug Morris Jay-Z

Camel might be out of a job when he gets back from stuntin in Paris for his B’day. Universal says he’s getting a wee bit ridiculous with his expectations monetarily:

“He wanted big, big money that was way out of sync with the realities of today’s record business.”

Island/Def Jam CEO L.A. Reid and his boss, Doug Morris, are said to have found Jay’s demands “excessive” in light of the time he’s been spending on tour.

“People have lost count of how many times he’s come out of retirement. Everybody knows he’s not around the office much. Everybody at Universal loves him, but they can’t justify paying him the money he wants when so many people have been laid off.”

His contract is said to expire at the end of this month.

He doesn’t seem to be sweating too tough though.

  • bobshfdfg

he is so cool. Girls who like him should be aware of this. A young lady said she saw

his photo on a celebrity and millionaire dating site named’ searching millionaire. com ‘last night.

  • kai

You cant fault that man for expecting the most. Hell, we gotta demand the most for everything we do, otherwise they gon pay us less than our worth.

  • Traycee

I am quite sure Jay does NOT care. He’s purely a BUSINESS MAN……..it’s strictly for the money. He will be just fine.

I guess he can just start another label, but he will need a guy like Dame to be his right hand man if he wants to remain an artist. You can’t be an artist and an exec. Someone has to run the company. They should have kept that in mind when they hired an artist for a senior executive level position.

  • Just Sit And Be Pretty

Jay’s money is so deep and diverse that even if Universal cuts him, no biggie. And from a business perspective, I can understand their concern if he is getting big bucks and never in the office. Plus, it doesn’t foster great morale among colleagues because imagine those staffers who work their asses off and probably don’t get paid a fraction of what Jay does.

  • Beeyah!

50 said this already.. apparently he’s going to Columbia with the homey Rick Rubin.

  • karma

WHOOO HOOOO now the artist at DefJam can get some shine… I know God is getting a lot of prayors coming up… Jay you might see those same people on your way down…

  • karma

LL did you have anything to do with this?

  • karma

If Jay doesn’t get another Exec type job will he and B relationship be able to last?…

  • Happy 2 B Nappy

@Karma…I was going to say the same thing. Now LL can see that Jay was not the reason he was getting no love.

  • CubaLinda

Well, I guess we now see what LL has been crying about. I’m sure its not going to crush him financially to get cut, but it doesnt look good when people begin to severe ties with you because you are demanding and not at all sensitive to their bottom-line.

I havent followed this too closely, can anyone tell me what he is attributed to bringing to the company as CEO and where his involvement has driven up revenue for him to have such demands???
