I hate how this whole thing is being outrageously exploited! They are young people!!!! Leave them alone. Do I condone domestic abuse, of course not I do however believe in the right of choice for everybody. She has the right to decide who she wants to be with. We got to see Rihanna’s pics but did we ever get to see what Chris looked like afterwards??? Unfortunately they both have seen domestic abuse when they were younger so they have tendency to find themselves in similar incidents, let them live and make their own decisions. They are both bright and intelligent entertainers they will make whatever decision that is best for them. And on Oprah…I think this another way for her to get more ratings for her show. Can we talk about something other this now??? *****ody should be judging anyone for the simple fact of we dont know everything. The only being that does know everything is GOD, no Oprah is not GOD either (sorry to shock a few faithful Oprahians) but we need to pray for them and let GOD handle it. Perhaps they are talking about it because it does affect so many women. It’s sad that when people speak up and give another perspective that they are judged. Rihanna can do whatever she wants but she has to accept that there will be consequences for her actions. You can’t tell people to buy what you’re selling whether it’s makeup, shoes, or your music but at the same time that you want them to stay out of your business. Thank God that Oprah and others are speaking out and perhaps they will save someone’s life in the process. Rihanna’s self-esteem is too low and hopefully she’ll see the error of her ways before she ends up like so many others. Unfortunately for Rihanna she is in danger of losing her career because no advertiser is going to want to *****ociate their product with a woman who chooses to stay with the guy who beat her. And anyone who defends his behavior or thinks it wasn’t a big deal, I encourage you to go out into your community and volunteer at a domestic violence non profit to get some knowledge about the subject.

It’s a matter of principle. Like when other celebrities get in trouble doing things that are common in the community, it is the community/media’s chance to bring light to the problem through example. It’s like child molestation in the black community and foster-care system: it is prevalent, BUT people aren’t paying attention to it. If R-kelly had been convicted that would have been a perfect opportunity to show all the pervs out there that touching on children is NOT ok, but the opportunity was lost w/ all the fans blindly supporting him.

Wake up, black people- this is common sh*t, and is NOT ok. You know someone who was/ is abused or was killed by an abuser but you didn’t make a fuss- now is your time to save someone you love (which you SHOULD HAVE been doing in the first place). I’m honestly tired of hearing about this incident. There’s gotta be some other news out there. I do understand why Oprah is doing it though. People say it’s for ratings, but to be honest Oprah can do a show about her coughing and get high ratings. She has the household talk show brand pretty much. It’s good to cover this type of thing because a lot of times this goes under the radar. I don’t think Rihanna needs to be the spokesperson, I just think that it kinda open everyone’s eyes in shock that whoa this actually happens to celebrities too. I do think both Chris and Rihanna instead or recording, jet skis, and club need to get counseling seriously. Oprah should also do a reversed role show about women who go too far with men. That would help each party understand the bad things about it and what to do in these cases.

I keep reading comments like ‘they should be talking about women hitting men’ or ‘if she jump out there like a man then she can fight like a man”.

Nine times out of ten a woman fighting a man with bare hands wont be sending him to the hospital for more than maybe some stitches. There’s some exceptions but it’s the exception, not the rule. But I’d say at least 8 times out of ten if a man really wanted to he could kill a chic with his bare hands. So what if there’s less attention on men in these situations. I’m not saying it’s ok for women to hit men but don’t pretend there isn’t a difference. Don’t act like a little back and forth shoving/slapping between lovers is the same as a man who wails on his girl like he’s fighting a dude.

Women already get the short end of the stick in enough situations. Men can be fat and ugly and still be superstars while women are held to a higher standard. Men can be deadbeats while women (not that all live up to it) need to take care of the kids. How many female presidents, rappers, CEO’s do you see? Women are making 75% of what men make for doing the same job.

So what if the rule is men shouldn’t hit women. So what if they’re the ones who should walk away. It’s like a pit bull fighting a chihuahua.

All of you are missing the point of the show. I don’t think it was about ratings, I think it was about awareness. True enough, Chris B. and Rhianna’s situation sparked the interest in this topic…but bottom line, there are a lot of females and even males that are in abusive situations. We can all say it’s their business,which it is…but if this show on yesterday can touch one person, then the 1 hour of ratings was worth it!

For example, the story about the cheerleader…none of her friend’s knew she was being abused. It’s sad that people opt to live in silence because the world first reaction is, “it’s their business”…sometimes opening your eyes, ears and hearts to what’s in front of you can be helpful. I’m willing to bet, there were some kind of signs and this cheerleader’s friend’s just didn’t see them. It’s just an awful thing…no one deserves any form of abuse be it male of female. In addition, more awareness need to be brought out about male abuse, because it’s real too. Peace Out, Have a great weekend everybody!

I meant to catch this show yesterday and I’m not an oprah watcher at all since I am a dude. I basically just wanted to see the media circus live instead of through the internet. From the very start I said that this is a fight that happened between 2 hot headed youngin’s and the media got into it and it became DOMESTIC ABUSE instead of just a fight or a domestic dispute that went to the extreme for a more accurate term that the federallies like to use. There was nothing done of this nature prior to his so how can you really label it DOMESTIC ABUSE? I imagine Rihanna and Chris are looking at everybody else like “***** them.” I’m pretty sure that they are old enough to understand that their situation is a story seller for the parasitic media and more importantly a springboard for opportunist *****ociations and such to get their agenda out in the forefront no matter if it is for a good cause or not. I will never leave the deacon and we’ve been *****in and fighting for 18yrs. Unbelievable that this is 2009 and people still think that women like being abused. Clearly they are both damaged people who are toxic to one another. I don’t feel sorry for either one of them because they do have resources available to get help. Oprah stated her opinion because she can! If more young people listened to the advice of their elders they could avoid a lot of heartache, poor choices and wasted time. Oprah offered her advice and experience…period. Chris Brown and Rhianna wanted to be famous – guess what? With fame comes a loss of anonymity… The people who buy their albums and go to their concerts are financially supporting their lifestyles… Of course people are going to be in their business. If people don’t like the decisions that they make they may choose to stop supporting them – it’s just that simple… If we could elect a black president based on what people think they know about the man – by the same token we (the consumers) can shut either Chris Brown or Rhianna down. Yes, they have the right to make their own choices but unpopular decisions often have consequences…

On the news today, they did a story on local teenager’s reaction to the Chrianna uproar. I was surprised at how many young Black GIRLS were saying it was Rihanna’s fault and she shouldn’t have hit Chris in the first place. Let’s not loose sight on the real issue. Stop all the personal attacks on Oprah’s weight, Tyra being fake or make-up friendly and etc… When we you have access to a medium whereby you can make a difference or highlight an issue — I say DO IT. Abuse is so very prevalent, and should be talked about OPENLY. This particular case gave people the excuse or ammunition to bring the the subject up, as in the past you had mamma’s (real mamma’s, say 30-40 year olds) being abused NOW teens are beating on women. My goodness, this has to be addressed. It’s too bad that this community of black folks still believe in attacking the person who speak up and says “This ***** aint right.” Too many things are overlooked in the black community, and it’s time that we start addressing issues other than these superficial things, such as, tracking what Beyonce and Jay-Z is doing today.

Women are abused everyday. How many times has Oprah addressed this issue, particularly teen violence in all of her years on television? Tyra and Oprah are so bootleg. Chris Brown was wrong however I do not like the fact that people are trying to castigate him and end his career. Where are Oprah and Tyra when the likes of Lindsay Lohan and other celebrities are caught with banned substances but are still allowed to party and display public intoxication while any other person (particularly people of color)would be locked up.
