“Big Meech” born Demetrius Flenory, leader of the Black Mafia Family (BMF) of Atlanta was sentenced to 30 years in prison the other day:
Flenory pled guilty to multiple counts of charges of running a criminal enterprise and conspiracy to laundering monetary instruments. The conviction is the latest chapter in the investigation of the Black Mafia Family, which ran an interstate drug ring that sold thousands of kilos of cocaine a week, while raking in over $270 million dollars in cash, real estate and jewelry.
According to court documents, Flenory was accused of serving as a supervisor and organizer of the BMF operation, which utilized more than 50 people to distribute the cocaine in Detroit, Michigan, Orlando, Florida and Atlanta, between 1990 and 2005. Through his dealings, Flenory reaped millions. Court documents show that he used the profits from his sales to “purchase real estate, vehicles and jewelry in order to promote the drug-trafficking activities of the organization.”

@Coop, you are right. Big Meech will do ‘ery day of that 30 year sentence on Fed Time. These were some smart brothas though. Not glorifying the lifestyle but the way they worked and built BMF….if they had been in Corporate America, they would heve been power brokers. Damn shame.

To answer your question the truth: Because they have made our communities so unsafe that we must leave. Then those of us who stay lose property value on our homes, if not our life and the neighborhood becomes blighted (yes, I know other factors are involved in urban blight) and the white developers move in and gentrify the neighborhood so that the community loses its soul and identity. Also, the Italian mafia is decimated, but when it was active it didn’t shoot up innocent victims in drive-bys, destroy their community with crime and make it unsafe for their children to go to school.
From reading the comments, it’s obvious that none of you knew him. What you read in the media is always the watered down, commercial version. While I don’t glorify the lifestyle, he was a wonderful person. I’ve known him since 92′, when he used to rock shiny versace shirts and shades, with the big medusa emblem on the side. He also rocked a tail in the back of his head! Yeah he was a always a bit flashy, but this dude has damn near paid for more college tuition than the United Negro College Fund… He has a quiet and gentle spirit. It was the ignorant, big mouth, little niggletts that migrated towards him that ruined him. His generosity ruined him, because he was the type that would make sure that everyone lived good. It hurts my heart to see him have to sit down like this, because of snitches. Yeah the practice was destructive, but he’ll always have my respect. I’m gonna miss the “BigHomie!” Free Meech Dammit!!!!

Sorry, innocent bystanders and children were not getting blown away in drive-bys. There were metal detectors in their schools. There neighborhoods were sage. Fear, threat of violence, intimidation, yes. Protection money: was that high interest due to a loan given to start the business, was that a shield from paying sanitation, higher property tax or building code violations. Please don’t demean the black community’s history of survival to the “working cl***** struggle” (read ethnic white).
