They didn’t pay him anything!

Barkhad Abdi Only Paid $65K For Movie And Went Nearly Bankrupt

Via Rumor Fix reports:

Most of the Oscar nominees have bulging bank accounts.

But Captain Phillips star Barkhad Abdi doesn’t fall into that category quite yet.

The 28-year-old — who is nominated for Best Supporting Award Sunday for his part in the pirate movie alongside Tom Hanks — was only paid $65,000 for his role.

The movie wrapped two years ago and because he did not get any more film work, he had to make ends meet by working at his brother’s mobile phone store in Minneapolis.

He told the The New Yorker: “When the movie came-out, reviews either gonna be good or bad — either way, I cannot be working here.”

But after the success of Captain Phillips his profile has been raised considerably and he has been receiving a lot more script offers.

And the down-to-earth actor won the BAFTA for Best Supporting Actor in London recently.

So, hopefully, he will be able to boost his bank account in the near future.

There’s nothing like a career boost of being nominated for an Academy Award. We hope Barkhad has a successful and prosperous career!!
