Princess Tiana and Prince Who???

Posted by Bossip Staff

Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen

Remember the teaser for the first movie to have a black princess, “The Princess and the Frog“?  Well, people are stark raving mad over the fact that Princess Tiana ends up with a white-looking cat named Prince Naveen:

Disney’s first black princess, Princess Tiana – and the ‘white’ Prince Naveen

Move over Snow White. Make room for Disney’s first black princess.

With America’s first African-American president in the White House, Disney is counting on an African-American princess to be a big hit in Hollywood.

But even though The Princess and the Frog isn’t released until later this year, it is already stirring up controversy.

For while Princess Tiana and many in the cartoon cast are black – the prince is not.

Which has led some critics to complain that Disney has ducked the opportunity for a fairytale ending for a black prince and princess.

While some have hailed Disney’s decision as a reflection of melting pot America, others say the company is sending out a mixed message.

Although the black princess’s love interest in the new animated musical is called Prince Naveen of Maldonia and is voiced by a Brazilian actor, he looks more white than black in photographs from the film that Disney have released.

Even though she ends up with a somewhat white fella, is having the first black princess progress enough?

…or is this just some straight up bullsh*t??

BLACK PRESIDENT, BLACK PRINCESS, BLACK PEOPLE ARE COMIN UP…

  4. White Devil

If they had a black prince they would have had to show him beating her up to make it realistic. (Kidding)

  5. Angee

I think this shows some progress, but I think the Prince should be a brother, or at least look like one! Just me!

  6. BritChick

hmmmmm..ok..i have to think about that one

  7. Apoc87

    He’s light skinned-ded.

Thats kinda crazy but I am glad that they finally have a black princess! The lion king was in africa and didn’t even have one person in it…..

FU white devil!!!!!! (pumpin’ my fist)

  9. Whut??

A Black Prince would never marry a Black woman. Do Black men even marry Black women anymore??? Disney is keeping it real.

  10. LOL @ “Apoc87″.

  11. OF course they can’t have a Black Prince. Then it would be a Black fairytale.. And that’s only allowed during Black history month.. Yall should get a sound bite of that jive talkin cricket.. Reminds me of the frog from Dumbo?.. Disney is the BEAST!

  12. m tizzy

What son cant be light skinned or spanish?

People complain about everything….How about its showing love can happen between any race?

  13. Nina Knows

***** Disney… Blacks need to stop looking for white people to respect and treat us right. We need to create our own *****. They finally create a black princess, to insult it with a white prince. Did that w***** snow white, jasmine, or the rest of them disney hoes have a black prince.. hell no. I expected this stupid mess.

    ***** this *****, and ***** a disney, im out.

  14. pm

If that was a white princess with a black prince. black females would be a march on washington.

  15. Mr. Cool

I am happy the Disney decided to create a movie about a black princess. This action should and will motive all the african-american girl coming of age.

    P.S. I will p***** on the negativity.

  16. why the ***** her name gotta be “TIANA” tho..that ghetto ***** *****….the white princesses had pretty names like Jasmine,Cinderella,Arielle, and they goin call OUR princess a damn TIANA?????????????????????????????????????? ***** DISNEY,I AIN’T WIT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. What the...

Well I don’t know about all that but there a gang of Naveen’s in the Indian community…my question if he sounded like John Witherspoon, would it matter then?

  18. A Black Prince would never marry a Black woman. Do Black men even marry Black women anymore??? Disney is keeping it real.

  20. missBK

oh lawd have mercy…black folks complain about every damn thing. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t…smh…

  21. Hannibal

THAT PRINCE DOES LOOK A LITTLE MEXICAN…

  22. NK

Really if you think about it,the “Disney Prince” is usually some ambiguous race and he is not the focus. If he would have been black then it would be marketed as a black cartoon, instead of a cartoon where the princess so happens to be black.

  23. The Official Mrs. Carter

Of course they should have created a Black Prince for the Princess but I guess its another case of white america giving us just enough to say we’re ‘making progress’… Like they are doing us a favor…? This *****es me off!!

  24. mickey

CAN YOU PEOPLE EVEN SEE RIGHT HE DOESN’T EVEN LOOK WHITE. AND ISN’T MOST BLACK FOLKS FROM NO MIXED ANY WAY AND CAN P***** FOR WHITE ????

  25. Love my friends, haters can go to hell

    Whut??

A Black Prince would never marry a Black woman. Do Black men even marry Black women anymore??? Disney is keeping it real.

    exactly!

It would have to be either or.

black princess with a mixed character or a black prince with a white/asian/light skinned hispanic

kudos to Disney for keeping up with the times

  26. My2Cents

Disney is keeping it real. Prince Charming is not *****ociated with the typical black man. So, I don’t see anything wrong with what they are doing. Hopefully this will encourage young black girls to raise their standards higher and stop settling for the bottom of the barrel.

  27. Necy

this is great!!! it’s Halle and Aubrey…. awwwwwwwwwwwww

  28. Love my friends, haters can go to hell

    @ Hannibal

    can I call you sometime?

  29. B

Bull*****! I could care less for this crap. I don’t care about a *****ing black princess. But there are too many of you *****s crying to the white man about not being admitted to the game. I hate some of yall. This is embarr*****ing. I will never see this movie and I bet it ends up straight to video

  30. tg

Make the characters RAINBOW, representing every skin color and this way, NO ONE, gets offended or can complain. Children don’t care what color the characters are portrayed in the movies. It doesn’t bother me, but for a lot of people in this country, everything is based on black and white – not people.

  31. Divide and Conquer

I agree with Nina Knows, black people do we really hate ourselves that much ? We need to make our own heroes, black familys our STILL under attack. I know alot of you don’t feel me or understand but yet I love you anyway.(SMH)

  32. madbrooke

How about Black men start *****in with black women, then maybe Disney will get the hint!

  33. Bre

    LMAO@ tiababy09

and Christy (“That jive talkin cricket” cracked me up!)

  34. HarlemWorld

Don’t support this ish! Black love is still alive!

  35. pm

@My2Cents. The black prince didn’t want her ***** cus she didn’t want to sign the prenup…

  36. johnny

Naveen is an Indian (South Asian – red dot, not feather) name. This character is clearly not a white man. It’s most likely supposed to be a South Asian man. Everybody calm down and at least get your facts straight.

  37. My2Cents

    @PM,

What black prince? They don’t exist. Disney is telling the truth. They are just keeping it real. A typical black man doesn’t fit the bill of Prince Charming. So, they can’t portray what doesn’t exist.

  38. The Official Mrs. Carter

On a positive note.. I like that dress Princess…

  39. ATLfinest

I am not even mad at Disney. When I look black cartoons, the cute little girls are always beige and the bullys are dark brown. It’s ashamed that it took a white company to give us a dark brown princess. I could care less the color of her Prince as long as she has one. On BET she would have been a dark princess who would have finally got a ring from one of her baby daddies.

  40. HarlemWorld

Actually its not all that clear… His features are white enough… it’s just Disney playin’ it safe, they are not going to “blackout” the entire animated cast.

Kinda like the Obamas… Barack’s light softens Michelles’s dark which in turns appeases the m*****es of coloreds that seek a symbol. It’s a ploy called conditioning.

  41. Holla

People always gotta complain about ish. First black Disney Princess and it still ain’t good enough. What difference does it make??? Damn sometimes we cry too damn much. Stop caring so much about ethnicities of cartoon characters and start raising our kids in two parent households, staying in school, not going to jail, not selling drugs, not spending the majority of our money on items that depreciate in value, etc, etc, etc.

  42. johnny

And quit buying into KKK logic. They’re the ones that preach against miscegenation (race-mixing). They’re the ones that say same has to marry same. Why do the bossip writers have so much beef with mixed race dating? Why do the bossip writers have so much in common with the KKK? Let this fictional sista date who she wants.

  43. P!nk

lol @white devil. he’s kinda right

  44. janb

I like it the way it is, looks cute.

  45. Howbad

Nothing wrong with that hell brothers are not marrying sisters, anyway so why the hell can’t this cartoon find love in another race. It’s true life, We have to marry out of our race so why not in cartoon go Disney.
And too all them people that have issues with this but always scream hater when we sisters have something to say about Reggie Bush and his girl don’t be hating .

  46. Mrs. Philly

    He’s light skinned-ded.

    @Whutt?

There are even less white men marrying black women than black men marrying black women.

  48. pm

@My2Cents here we go with the a typical black man stuff..Well the A typical black woman wouldn’t know Prince charming if he offer to buy those bad ***** kida a new pair of shoes..They always go got the villian.

  49. Jackie7890

If the movie takes place in New Orleans perhaps we can *****ume he’s french creole. He doesn’t look white to me at all. GET THE ***** OVER IT BOSSIP

  50. Kigali (Birth control until marriage)

    @tiababy,

I think Jasmine was supposed to be Arab.

  51. lilith82

lol at APOC 87 lightskinned-ed cause you know that’s how people say it too…
    —————————————————-
ok so I’m gonna play devils advocate..i think its cool that the prince isnt a quote on quote “brotha” cause then it would have just been marketed to black people, and on the real when you turn on the tv and you see the tv/movie brotha he’s always “swirling” it up so why can’t we? like it would be too much for a black princess to have a non-black male in her life. I say go for it..

maybe if we (sistahs) see more of these type of relationships with us included than maybe we won’t be so salty when we see the “traditional swirl”…

but on the real I’m happy they are showing little black girls a positive image…Now what people really should be waiting to see is if she talks like she has some sense or if they are going to “ghetto girl” her out..you know with all the SUPER DUPER loud talking and the neck rolling…cause we all know “they” think we us “GIIIRRRLLL” and “MMMM HMMM” all the time.

  52. pm

hey Kigali.. I think this is the part where u take over lol..

  53. sweet_lies

absolutely usurping the image of functional black family… i wonder if Disney would ever have a white princess end up with a “black-looking” prince with a brazilian accent? DOUBT IT.

btw, for all of you who don’t know, Mickey Mouse’s first name was “Ni99er Mouse.” So, this is not surprising coming from Disney.

  54. biracial bombshell

Yall who have a serious problem with this need to get over yourselves. It’s a MOVIE! They’re all fairytales and NOT real life! I think it looks like a cute movie. Who gives a damn what color the damn cartoon characters are?

  55. That*****

I might be in the minority but the prince looks black to me. His complexion is light but he is clearly a man of color. Black folks come in many different complexions, from midnight black to very pale. This is especially the case in New Orleans, where the movie takes place. I know we’re very protective of our image as a culture, especially since our representation is so limited in the media. But sometimes blacks folks can be a little to sensitive. They animation looks great and the frog prince is a wonderful fairytale that is due for a modern update. Everybody needs to calm down.

  56. oh come on

“naveen” is actually a middle eastern or indian name by the way. The prince is not white or is anyone whose not black or latin or chinese automatically called “white”??? Come on bossip do your homework. And besides you are always glorifying interracial couples on this site anyways, so what?.

  57. Kigali (Birth control until marriage)

    @pm,

Thats so true. The black princess calls Prince charming a scrub and gets pregnant by the antagonist in the movie. That would indeed be real life.

  58. My2Cents

    @pm

I’m just pointing out the obvious. I bet if we did a national poll on this topic the majority of women would not consider THE TYPICAL black man Prince Charming. So, stop hating on Disney for getting it right by not making him black.

  59. mickey

Why is it now have to be a light skin/drak skin issue.People please grow the hell up!!!!

  60. Kigali (Birth control until marriage)

    @pm,

Its funny how all these *****es in here are complaining that black men dont marry black females. Well black females need to be marriage material. They arent. I mean dam, you allow a man to treat you like a sperm dumpster, you will be his sperm dumpster.

  61. Sydney™

OK, I did a little research, and the actor who plays Prince Neveen is a Brazilian actor named Bruno Campos. Also, the cartoon is set in the French Quarter in New Orleans, but the prince is from another country, the fictional land of Maldonia.

I just watched the trailer — I love the concept of a black princess, but I would like to see more of the film.

  62. chaka1

    I want a Brazilian prince!!!!

  63. Kigali (Birth control until marriage)

    @My2Cents,

Speaking of national polls the black female would figure as the least likely to be marriage material. Thats why more black men are married than black females.

  64. sdot

seriously Bossip?? since when is Naveen a White name?? and why does it matter?? Everyone is always talking about progressing and getting over racism but yet you make a big ***** deal about the skin tone of a cartoon prince? Come on people. Get over yourselves. At least they’re not painting Native Americans red anymore, which was blatant disrespect. Plus he’s kinda cute w/ that winning smile!

  65. AmberRose_BuzzCutShav'ns- "N" as in NoneYA

  67. My2Cents

    @Kigali (Birth control until marriage)

I call a spade a spade. Seriously you need to seek help. Obviously black women are not giving your ***** the time of day so you come on here and vent. Consider yourself ignored by me after this comment.

  68. Kigali (Birth control until marriage)

    @My2Cents,

“So, stop hating on Disney for getting it right by not making him black.”

LOL, this Princess would have to add on 100lbs, have a few kids, and terrible weave, and during the whole movie she is cussing out prince charming over some bull*****.

The sequel is with prince charming hooking up with a white woman. LOL.

  69. Special Ed.......Dropout

    Sorry, but it’s true

  70. pm

@Kigali.. lol you forgot the villian messin up her credit score in the first movie, then wanting prince charming to fix it in the second movie

  71. Kigali (Birth control until marriage)

    @My2cents,

It is really that hard to get attention from a black female? Alls I have to do is show her my prison tattoos and tell her how gangsta I am. LOL.

    I am a woman btw. :)

  72. Sydney™

    @Kigali

“LOL, this Princess would have to add on 100lbs, have a few kids, and terrible weave, and during the whole movie she is cussing out prince charming over some bull*****.”

Kigali, girl, I didn’t know you had royalty in your family, lol.

  73. datflychic

That Prince CANNOT be lightskinned lol. What lightskin dude you know got hair like that? The name Naveen sounds like the prince from India…Anyways, they kept it gangsta by naming the princess Tiana…lol

  74. My2Cents

    @Sydney™

“Kigali, girl, I didn’t know you had royalty in your family, lol.”

Lol….That’s not a female. I’m sure of it.

  75. Sydney™

It would be nice to see more black couples in animation. . .On Charlie Brown, there was Franklin, but I think he was pretty much a loner. The cartoons I recall had the token black girl or boy, but rarely the two of them together.

Here’s the official link for the cartoon, by the way:

    disney.go.com/disneypictures/princessandthefrog/

I don’t know if I like the first song I heard too much. . .

    @My2Cents

Yeah, Kigali is a female (or so she says). She’s the antithesis of SMDH, lol.

Take everything she says with a grain of salt. :)

  76. Who cares. So many people are dating outside of their race that this shouldn’t even be an issue.

  77. STARcasm

first off, why does the black chic have to have the one character line synonomous with basically having to screw any and everybody till she finally finds the right love and then he’s not even her ethnicity?

on the otherhand, most black men aren’t sh*t so perhaps thats why,

unless disney is trying to send a sublime to keep light skin alive…

    or like one poster said…conditioning…

  78. Mrs. Philly

    Those chicks are very pretty
    ______________________________________

@ Chaka, I think you could compete, If you have ever been to other countries you will notice that the men LOOOOOOOOVE BLACK WOMEN, Hispanic men LOVE black women. Plus, most Brazilian women have their head so far up white men and travelers’ azzes !!

  79. pm

Hey syd , Where has SMDH been i wonder

  80. idontcare

Can’t wait to see the movie! I don’t care that the prince isn’t black! So what! In hollywood and BLACK MUSIC VIDEOS we see alot of black men with non-black woman, so so what!

On top of that i decided a long time ago that this movie for me isn’t for black little boys, but for black little girls…. go black girls and do whatever the heck you want! BE THE PRINCESS! LOVE WHOEVER YOU WANT!

And i’m just sad that we have to get into politics like this even for kid stuff. I don’t want my kids to have to think of this!!

  81. Sydney™

    Hey pm, Mrs. Philly :)

Oh, SMDH has been around, I think. She may grace us with an appearance, and then we’ll see a real Clash of the Titans, lol. *getting out popcorn*

  82. pm

its got to be some foul ***** said about black woman to bring SMDH out of her lair..But Kigali seems to have a talent for it lol

  83. Swag-a-licious

I agree with Disney…everyone loves the Swirl…and they know white men loves some sistas…

And brothers do need to step their “Prince Charming” game up…and stop asking for head on the first date…this is real life not a rap song!!

  84. me

Naveen is an Indian name. So yes, he would be Caucasian racially, but not White European. What does it matter anyway? The concept of it is obviously that he is supposed to be ‘exotic’ and from a far off land-hence his ambiguois ethnicity. Stop making issues when there isn’t one!

  85. Kigali (Birth control until marriage)

    @me,

    Indians are Asian not Caucasian.

  86. BE

Disney know they are wrong for this bull! I mean why make a Brazillian actor the prince. They missed the boat on this, they figured well they cried for a black princess…whatever

I bet they would not give a Brazillian prince to any of those other princesses. If they want to celebrate mixed races why not start with a white/other couple.

Well I have a daughter and I make sure I tell her how special she is and her heritage so ***** Disney!

and I am going to their website to complain.

  87. Swag-a-licious

Kigali knows that the black woman was THE FIRST WOMAN and is still desired by ALL MEN!!

All men do not like white, latina, or chinese women…EVERY MAN wants the black woman..

Why do you think white women where threatend by Michelle Obama’s arms…i mean her “ARMS” for God sake…imagine if showed her legs.. it would be a wrap!!

  88. Kigali (Birth control until marriage)

    @StarCasm

Maybe most black men you ***** with aint *****. Trife black females do have a knack for *****ing, without protection, aint ***** *****s then come on bossip and complain these *****s dont take care of their kids. LOL. Aing ***** ***** attract aint ***** *****s.

  89. iLuvYelloBoyz

    Kigali,

You’re becoming more and more of a joke sans the punchline.

Over 60% of black males aren’t married. However, of the ones who are 90%+ are married to black women.

And just because a black man is dating/married to someone of another race doesn’t automatically say squat about his character. I see enough black males in IR carrying on with the silly drama.

  90. BE

There are some black men out there worth celebrating as well as black women…and there are still plenty of black married couples.

  91. Laetmc

instead of spewing hate when the hell are u ever going to ask the black man to take some *****ing responsibility? I, like many other black women, don’t have any kids, am a full time college student, take care of my mind and body and I always find myself struggling every day to fight the stereotypes that mother*****ers like you spread everyday. You refuse to see the good, all you want to do is spread hate you self-righteous *****. Plenty of us out here trying to do the right thing and all you people want to do is reduce us to your incredibly small and twisted point of view.

  93. You Smell Me??

baby steps people baby steps. We need to get back to our original films. blaxpoitation… naameen? Coffy, Foxy Brown, Blacula, Shaft, etc..

  94. Kigali (Birth control until marriage)

    @Swag,

The 2006 Census states clearly the black females arent desired by all men. If they were I *****umed more of them would marry black females by as it stands, White men are more desired, then white women, then Asian women, then black men, then Asian men then black females. In fact there are more black men married to white women then there are black women married to men of any other race combined.

    Kigali-1

  95. onion61

    @Sydney
My issue was with the trailer I saw last year and how dysfunctional the firefly/cricket character was. I didn’t care that he was Creole his appearance was inappropriate to me and I have never seen the sidekick in a Disney princess film ever be so blatently derogatory. I honestly feel that this was allowed because it is a black princess; if anyone can show me another Disney princess movie where the sidekick is an obvious racist stereotype than I’m listening. Otherwise I have since last year banned all things Disney from my daughter.

  96. Mrs. Philly

Always some stupid black female coming in here giving me her resume as if her situation is normal for black females. Listen if you want to know what black females and their families are like, look no further than Keshia Coles family. This is what a modern black female is today. Those are the types of families they create.

Talk about responsibility, how about black females get a Depo shot in their *****. Take some responsibility for birth cotrol. :) I dont care who you *****, just dont bring innocent children into your *****ery and traumatize them with your life decisions.

  100. PeanutButter

maybe Black folks should stop bein lazy and ***** up with ***** be4 the white man. Then comment about dumb *****.

  101. Marquis de Sade

This is nothing more than Disney hedging their bets. This is why Will Smith was forced to cast a non-black female lead in that romantic comedy Hitch. Black on Black love doesn’t translate well B.O. wise, while being marketed to the maninstream moviefan, i.e. “THE WHITE TICKET BUYER”.

The only time you see black on black sensuality/love is in low budget independent fare, suchas the Spike Lee or Tyler Perry oovre, or the action movie, where the female is an afterthought, as opposed to a fleshed out character.

The last movie to portray black on black love with dignity was Love Jones, and Love and Basketball, and they were B.O. failures. It is what it is.

  102. iLuvYelloBoyz

Since introducing the idea of this film, b/c of various protests, Disney has had to:

    1. Change the name of the princess. (I mean ppl actually stood outside and picketed over the original name.)

    2. Darken the prince’s features.

    3. Change the prince’s name.

    4. Change the prince’s ethnicity.

    5. Re-do storyboards depicting “love scenes”.

OYE! All this over a cartoon? I swear if all this energy went into ***** that mattered, negroes wouldn’t be cemented at the bottom of the food chain.

  103. Sydney™

    Yes, that’s very true.

    “@Sydney

I couldn’t tell what that insect with missing teeth was, and he spoke with a dialect that some could consider stereotypical. I know there’s been a lot of controversy around this movie (I think the princess’s name was changed at one point as well).

  104. Mo

If the prince were black he would just beat her, impregnate her then leave her

  105. Kigali (Birth control until marriage)

    @IluveYelloboyz,

When you talk to me *****ume that I have already heard the argument you will present. You guys in here are broken records.

“Over 60% of black males aren’t married. However, of the ones who are 90%+ are married to black women.”

Ofcouse but thats 60% of black men who arent married. I wonder how many of that 60% have children. LOL, a black females cant get a man to have sex with her but when it comes to real commitment and loyalty, well she doesnt do too well in that department.

“And just because a black man is dating/married to someone of another race doesn’t automatically say squat about his character.”

No but what it does say is that these non black women are attracted to and want to date these black men. Now if there are more black men dating IR than there are black females dating IR what does that tell you about what is in fact desired and who isnt? Thats my point. Black men are HOT and you are NOT.

It may be what “it is,” but it’s not the way things should be. These cinematic images — along with other imagery in popular media — do matter. They matter a great deal.

“Well, people are stark raving mad over the fact that Princess Tiana ends up with a white-looking cat named Prince Naveen”…Those people need issues. Those people are racists. Period.

  111. Kigali (Birth control until marriage)

    @be,

    Nice gravie btw.

“There are some black men out there worth celebrating…”

On the contrary, most black men are worth celebrating that is before the single black female destroys him throughout his childhood, his teen years, and eventually as an adult.

“…and there are still plenty of black married couples.”

Not nearly enough to get the black community where it needs to be. Think Keyshia Cole’s family. A sinking ship.

This film is just a litmus test to how well the white mainstream audience accept it and shell out money to see it. A Black male and female character would have made it too much of a “Black” movie and it would have seriously hurt the boxoffice. While Hollywood only shows what they think America will go for they need to quit being afraid of all Black casts.

  121. Disney does do a lot of bull*****… But this dude doesn’t look like a strait up pasty white dude.. He looks like that A.C. Slater ***** in complexion. And he has a “Brazilian” voice, So I wouldnt even say its a white dude.. Fact is… A buncha sisters date guys of other races.. This story is about one of those times.. One of yall get on ya grind, get some connects.. Put out your own movie the way you want it. You have that right just like Disney….

why make the princes race ambiguous? why couldnt he be obviously black like her? Because that ***** wouldnt bring in big box office money. Disney would NEVER put out a cartoon with a white princess and a big black male prince. White folks would die a 1000 deaths. Talk about a message for young black girls.

  127. Ms. Brilly

I think it’s a step in the right direction. The fact that Disney has a black princess is MAJOR! I think we shouldn’t harp on the fact that the prince may not be Black. So what!

Now I hope she’s not the only brown skin/Black person in the movie. That would be disappointing. She should at least have some black parents that show up at some point in the movie.

  128. He look just like “Prince” the singer… Complexion, hair, wardrobe… Aint he black? ha….

  129. Pat

That is not a white prince. When I first saw him, the first thing that came to my mind was hispanic or arab. Then I saw the name “Naveen” and I knew this wasn’t a white prince. Naveen is a common name in India. People, the world is not just black/white.

  130. Heiress

Who cares it just a movie.Kids need to be looking in the household for role models.I don’t like her ghetto name. The reality is most black men don’t want the average sister. They want a multi racial ambigious chick like me or a white girl.Thats what I hear directly for their own mouths.

If they were I *****umed more of them would marry black females by as it stands, White men are more desired, then white women, then Asian women, then black men, then Asian men then black females. In fact there are more black men married to white women then there are black women married to men of any other race combined.

    @Kigali
You and I both know that sh*t aint true! Just like most men in prison claim to be innocent…

Black women love Black men most so that’s who we marry mostly…but ALL MEN LOVE AND LUST after black women….we are so SEXY to them they raped us in Africa, during slavery and they lock our brothers up so that they can have us to themselves…

    But WE don’t want them….

The proof (if you are a black woman) is walk p***** a group of white, latino or chinese men with your head down and turn around when you get about 5ft p***** them….look back quickly…you’ll see what I mean

It happens every day to me… work with white men who ask me to leave my husband for them everyday…and true they may make more money than my hubby….but aint nothing like that BLACK LOVE…

  135. iLuvYelloBoyz

    Kigali,

If it weren’t for “ethnic white/Latino” men I wouldn’t had a dating life, muchless a marriage.

And since it’s ESTABLISHED, that black males engage in the same behaviour regardless of their mate’s colour, race, or ethnicty. We seem to have located the problem.

You keep saying that black men are involved in more IR dating than black women. And while this is true IR relationships involving black males don’t have a great success rate. Also no one, and I mean NO ONE engages in IR marriages more than white men. Do you blame white women and apply your same ‘illogic’? Didn’t think so.

When a man is more comfortable blaming EVERYONE [the white man, black women, all women, immigrants, the system, the boule, etc] what we have on our hands is a clown incapable of fending for himself. So building and protecting a family is way too tall of an order. And it’s been this way for decades (if not centuries).

These cartoon characters are just FINE .

Its OKAY to MIX things up a BIT.

However the “BLACK WOMEN ARE NOT WORTHY”
    statements really need to STOP.

I know a number of WELL-TO-DO,WELL EDUCATED princes that are married to BLACK women.

If you move out of YOUR neighbourhood and TRAVEL you might see this for yourself.

The 30-40 million black population in the U.S does not make you the only BLACK PEOPLE in the world.

Strong AFRICAN MEN marry STRONG AMBITIOUS BLACK WOMEN all THE TIME.

INFACT it is a PREREQUISITE to any kind of relationship because no wants to end up with a PARASITE.

Strong BLACK WOMEN also WANT STRONG AMBITIOUS BLACK MEN.

It is only the BLACK AMERICAN MALE that as a problem with STRONG BLACK WOMEN.

AND believe me NOT all BLACK WOMEN are HANKERING after BLACK AMERICAN MEN you are really NOT THAT HOT A CAKE.

The Most powerful BLACK AMERICAN MALE in the WORLD is the PRESIDENT and he has KENYAN ROOTS.

Its OBVIOUS THAT President Obama is INDEED a TRUE AFRICAN MAN.

As I understand it, this story is set in antebellum New Orleans. Back then, and especially in LA there was a cl***** system. Creoles and Free slaves were a higher cl***** then blacks. By making the prince Creole, Disney gives him a higher status then the all black princess. Thus this fairy tale fits into the cl*****ic model, a prince of higher birth finds love with a humble, poor, lower cl***** woman. He bucks tradition and marries the person he wants to. Its just like Cinderella and Aladdian. –Now that time in black history is extremely complicated and painful because at times the creole and black community were pitted against each other. At times Creoles campaigned against the extension of rights to free slaves. But when white segregation stripped the rights of creoles away, the black and creole community had to come together somewhat. And back then it was frowned upon for creoles to marry lower than their cl*****. And New Orleans creoles had this huge ball tradition. During slavery, creole mothers used the ***** to showcase their daughters to white men, which was marrying up. They created a whole mistress/second wife system so their daughters would be protected financially if they were taken by a white man. Then they had separate ***** for creole men to compete for the women who were left. And yes, they had the brown paper bag test.–I just read Bliss Broyard’s book ONE DROP,(the best book I read this year) it includes a historical progression of the creole community from slavery to now.–I wonder how the Creole community is going to be displayed in this. It could get a little touchy, remember Pocahantas.

I don’t think the prince looks “white”. Don’t “we” (Black people) come in different shade?!

  161. leeha

Interesting fact about the Creole community…Creoles included mixed race immigrants from Haiti and Jamaica. When those colonies fell into chaos due to slave revolts, the creoles and whites from the colonies settled in New Orleans. That was the only place where they could settle because white racism anywhere else during slavery would have discriminated against them. And being India and Jamaica were both English colonies, alot of Indians came to the US during that time from Jamaica. So Prince Naveen could be indian. They became a part of the creole community along with Latino immigrants from Cuba and the Dominican Republic. So during slavery Creole became like a middle/catch all cl***** between white and black. White was on top, black was on the bottom, and everybody else was in between.

    Well I happen to LOVE black women. They are fine as hell and are a lot more fun to talk to than the usual white girl from the ‘burbs. I wasnt lucky enough to grow up in a very diverse part of the country, but when I did leave home and began to form opinions based on MY actual life and what I SAW, I was awestruck by how cool most of the black women I dated were and how lame it was that I had been denied women of all races, given my proximity to Canada. (;

  172. EtherUtopia

And, of course, it only takes one lie to unravel the whole world—and the one drop rule is America’s monumental lie.

But it worked at keeping Black power safely under the control of the White race (not just the White man, but the White woman as well). The White woman played and plays an enormous role in helping him to rule and dominate and undo black people.

A Mulatto elite was created ON PURPOSE, just as in Africa…to act as a buffer group to keep the authentic blacks invisible and to “speak for them,” compromise for them…and mainly…to identify with the White Power Structure and uphold its mandates, all in the name of speaking as “black folks.” More than anyone else, the “root core” of the black human being was denied “representation”—the dark skinned black woman.

NOTE: For those brothers and sisters reading this from the continent of Africa, I am well aware that as far as you are concerned there’s no such thing as a “light skinned” black person. I understand that the dark skinned black is THE black person, but the majority of black Americans lived under a completely different system – given to them by their antebellum slave master.

White domination requires that—“they shoot the Blackest girl (her womb) first.” So, alas, the Mulatto (yellow) woman was used by both the slave master and the Black man just as she was used in Colonial Africa, as a “bridge out of blackness”— a Womb that had the power to gradually breed out the African and lighten (compromise the blood of our progeny) generation to generation…until the people were so compromised and divided by physical difference—it was easier to convince them that their allegiance was not solely to themselves (“blackness”) or in any way to their origins (Africa), but rather to the “dream” (“we’ve always been mixed”) of the superior people through whom they were mixed with.

And since the White man rules the world through the White woman (as do all men rule through their women—as the late Honorable Elijah Muhammad said, “a nation cannot rise above its woman”), the Black man was conditioned, trained and programmed to choose the lightest woman he could find—thereby systematically rejecting his own personal power—which is the authentic Black woman (the darkest)—and canceling out his own chance at ruling his own domain. Instead, as a N.i.g.g.e.r—he rules alongside the White man’s flank as a glorified mascot.

Notice the Black leader in America. He is usually influenced by the loving, ultra-supportive well meaning white or non-black wife—the White man’s mother, or by the high yellow wife who, because the society doesn’t recognize her true racial identity—is always either an imitation Black woman or an imitation White woman.

So, Blacks are controlled both ways. The black man is kept impotent by making it a “taboo” for him to stand in ruler-ship with his natural mate, the authentic Black woman at his side—no matter how many White men stand with their snowy white wives and snowy white families—the goal is to keep the two darkest blacks apart, so that the Black man has no way of ruling and no way of being whole and complete.

  177. EtherUtopia

To the white man’s credit—he came up with the most brilliant strategy in the history of White supremacy. He decreed that one drop of African blood makes you black—which in turn forever sealed his “control” of Black Power by giving these abused, beat down black people permission to do away their crown (nappy, kinky hair – the Proof) and their skin color—yet still call themselves “Black,” thus providing the illusion that even without their physical Temple…they still had their souls and were still standing on their own two feet.

This wicked ideology was saying that the African race was such a disease that anything touched by it was contaminated, and in this way, Whiteness became the one purity—the one cure. And tragically, 400 years later, most Black Americans still accept and cling to the antebellum slave master’s racist decree that anything that brushes against us…is us by default.

That we should think so little of ourselves that just ANYBODY can be us.

THE ONLY REASON BROTHER’S HAVE STARTED DATING OUTSIDE THEIR RACE SINCE 1960′S is because they couldn’t from (the beginning of time – 1950’s).

Most white women don’t like black men…only the gold-diggers and white trash don’t care!!

But brother date white women not because they like flat a$$es and the smell of wet dogs…no,no, no…they date white women because they CAN now! It’s a big f&ck you to the white man!!

But if you check out a white chick with a black man she is VERY INTIMIDATED by black women because she know he wants us….

and he’s not white. If you watch Disney movies you’d know the typical white prince wither has blonde hair OR blue eyes if not both. Prince Eric from A Little Mermaid had dark hair but his eyes were blue. John Smith had blue eyes and blond hair. And so on . . . besides most of all the princes were white except maybe Aladdin. Pocahontas had a white prince. And I agree with what someone else said.

Disney is already telling myths and tall tales – wouldn’t adding a black man as “prince charming” be stretching it? Princess Tiana does not want to deal with baby-mama drama.

  191. lala

Well, usually a story about a princess has a fairytale ending, so it’s only natural that she not end up with a black prince. If she ended up with a black prince she’d end up taking over some of his child support payments. Having to support him and his kids. He’d try to have his baby’s mama move into the castle with them so he can sneak in and out of her room at night…it would be an awful ending….

Completely ignoring this historic con designed to keep black people in place, designed to keep black people self-loathing. -This is the very reason why Latin America never really had a civil rights movement, and Rawanda imploded, and the Dominican Republic and Haiti can’t get along. While you touched on key points in your comment the only issue i take up with you is the one directed toward lighter skinned women. I myself am a darker skinned sistah but my mother is light, my aunts are light and my grandmother is light and they in no way shape or form ever been an imitation black woman or imitation white woman.

It sometimes amazes me how some people can be so PRO-BLACK that they begin to cause the same division in the black community that they blame white people for. I’m all for Pro blackness and being proud of ourselves cause we ALL know there is enough hatred of the black race out there, even on this blog site, but the time has come for black people to stop trying to figure out just how black each one of us are. I’m particularly proud when someone who isn’t (as your standards perceive) 100% black acknowledges themselves as only that because it lets me know that everyone wants to be like us.

Its time out for that seperation theory, we as black people (men and women) can no longer blame anybody else for our misfortunes, this is a new year and a new generation, if we are held back its because we choose to be held back. No white male or female has anything to do with whether i succeed or not because i am the master of my own future and sucess..

and to the people throwing the brothers under the bus on this post that’s so childish all you are doing is perpetuating the stereotypes that the media shows. if all you know is the black man with the numerous baby mothers, the bad credit and the low self esteem then maybe you need to change your surroundings, because that speaks volumes as to who you are and who you socialize with.

and to the people on here bashing the black women, get over it. for us to be so shiftless, ghetto, ignorant and rank (as you put it) why does the world try so bad to be like us? and those negative traits are not black women traits they are IGNORANT women traits and IGNORANT women come in all colors and shapes. I know nothing but strong, beautiful, black women because that’s what i surround myself with. You are who commune with! so if all you know is shiftless, lazy, ignorant black women then you must be shiftless, lazy and ignorant yourself. People who make blanket generalizations about a WHOLE group of people are nothing but the confirmation of their own stereotype….

and this is a STRONG, MARRIED, BEAUTIFUL SISTAH SIGNING OFF….:)

Although there are some good brothers out there, many african american men are just dying to experience other race/culture (white) women. That is fine because we all know that one does not choose the person that you are attracted to, but african american women are going to have the same options. I predict that eventually the white male is going to let black men have the white woman, as white males expand their own circles. In the past it has not been fully socially acceptable for the white male to wife up other race women – this does not indicate that there is no attraction on the part of the white male for the african american woman, contrary. There will eventually be an overall power shift that places the black female next to the white male regarding the power structure; the white female really has no power other than that which is granted by white males in her circle. It is just a matter of time before white men realize how womderful black women are. In some circles, that is already beginning to happen!

I never thought of it in that sense, I always thought about it in the sense of the laws and rules of genetics, and that is black is the dominate gene, therefore it takes precedence over other genes. Very generalized statement. I’m a black woman who is very highly educated, very attractive, makes a good salary and has a husband that has very similar traits to mine. However, before I met a man who had his qualities I was stuck dealing with these brothas out here with terrible credit, multiple baby mommas, college drop-outs, foot draggin’, got an excuse for everything type of men. And I dealt with it time and time again until I realized that I would rather be by my dang self than to deal with that. Soon after I decided to be alone, my husband came along and he is a very successful, highly intelligent, black man with strong moral and family values. The moral of the story is that good things come to those who wait…lol… and there are plenty of women out there who fit my description and can’t seem to make that good catch…

The placement of the black woman over the black male has already happened. It has been happening since they took the first slave off of the ship. Belittle the influence of the black man in the black woman’s eyes, teach her to eat from “m*****ah’s hands” (she will in turn teach her offspring) and the cycle begins. Meanwhile, deminsish the value of the black woman to that of a w***** (raping her IN FRONT of her male husbands, sons, etc) in the eyes of the black man and continue to keep them seperated except to breed but keep all male influence away from his children in order for the woman to maintain her role as head of household….with the man being little more than a sperm donor. In essence, break up the black family structure……systematically.

All this sound familiar? Black men are still “out in the fields” not taking their righteous place as head of their household. We collectively still treat black woman like they are our personal w*****s while black woman still look at us like sub-human. We haven’t broken these chains of slavery yet. If we had, this whole thread would be a non-issue.

The baggage the black women brings is much heavier then the baggage we come with. Only black women want to have a man do all the things a man is supposed to do while they pretend like the aforementioned is just a drop in the bucket and they need more meanwhile they are sucking some loser’s d!ck (or their boss) behind your back and stashing away $$$$$ for themselves….

Actually I am quite on the contrary to what you *****ume me to be, however my curiosity is based solely on what another blogger was saying about how us women tend to have excess baggage and I was delivering the rebuttal that plenty of men do too. I actually was more curious because I was hoping that you were all things positive towards your wife and I did not mean to come off condescending but the truth is that alot of times when men have very submissive women they tend to not reciprocate the respect back. Do trust, I’m not worried about you at all as I have plenty of other more important things going on in my life and I have a wonderful husband who respects me but also earns my submissiveness towards him, however since we are obviously on a blog and you commented, you left the door open for discussion, nothing more nothing less…good day…

As far as the all the animated Disney movies I can remember, all their ethnic movies, all the cast were the same ethnicity (maybe cept a friend or two), NEVER the lead charaters,i.e. Lilo and Stitch, Mulan, Emperor’s New Groove, Aladdin and so on. I think you are getting way too defensive and serious. I’m not attacking you nor am I trying to say that all women who are submissive have abusive husbands. What I am saying is that in today’s society it is interesting how many women are very submissive but don’t get the same respect back from their husbands…I know alot of these type of couples. However, as I stated before the way you describe me or *****ume me to be is sooooo far away from how I really am. I don’t put my nose in other people’s relationships/marriages (because I am too involved in my own) nor do I focus in on petty details to try and catch a man up. I don’t go through my man’s phone and he doesn’t go through mine because we both trust each other. I think you missed my point because my original intent was to prove that there can be some men that DO NOT fall into the stereotypes, however your jumping to conclusions about me and strong defensiveness kind of makes me give you the side eye. You could have done like me and just came out and asked me if I fit those descriptions that you have already nicely put me in. That’s precisely why I ASKED you how you treat your wife. If you two are good, then great, that’s one more happy couple that does not fall into statistics….as said before, good day…

Film, music, everything was based on this and has been every since. “Birth of a Nation” the first real American film celebrated our degredation and the crackers loved it. As a matter of fact the Gershwin Award that Pres Obama presented to Stevie Wonder is named for Charles Gershwin who is considered the first American composer. His first claim to fame was a song called “Swannee” that he preformed in blackface. Exploiting Black people is the core of American culture thats just what it is. It’s been working for all of these years and its not going to change. It is all about imitating or degrading us. They can’t come up with stuff on their own right.

but, with the kimora’s (korean mama), the faith evans’ (white daddy), keisha cole’s (white daddy), the alicia keys’ (white mama), boris kodjoe’s (german mama) of the world, it seems like this hang up on ’swirlin’ is a pretty silly.

I read c from stl statement and i think that it was great that SHE wasnt offended but just because you didnt offend one didnt mean you didnt offend another. the way your statements reads
    _____________________________________________________
“Notice the Black leader in America. He is usually influenced by the loving, ultra-supportive well meaning white or non-black wife—the White man’s mother, or by the high yellow wife who, because the society doesn’t recognize her true racial identity—is always either an imitation Black woman or an imitation White woman.”
_________________________________________________ you are speaking in a present tense hence you are speaking about the today’s “high yellow” woman not about the one from centuries past. and no where in my post did i say you shouldn’t be happy about being black or that there was something wrong with being Pro black, i said that there is a problem when you’re so Pro black that you begin to seperate blacks dependent upon how much “blackness” they have in them or how much they are so to speak diluted. I thought your post was very insightful i just didnt agree with the statement underlined above.

  354. EtherUtopia

@menominee nation – I appreciate your honesty in expressing your interest in black women and how you view us. To you, we are mere sexual objects. I would gather that our minds and spirits are not valued *****ets to you. It would appear highly unlikely that you would view us as ‘marriage’ material. You only want that brown sugar (*****).

I want to share this little piece about ‘Right Racism vs Wrong Racism” from factology.com. I kept it stored on my hard drive from a long time ago. You reminded me of this premise, Menominee.

“There is a ‘right’ racism and a ‘wrong’ racism. Racism preserves the races. There is no other way to preserve the purity of the races but by right racism. The Caucasian practices wrong racism, that is, one-sided racism. Right racism is a symptom of race pride and intelligence. Right racism is racism practiced on equal terms; and to practice racism equally, a race must have equal things, beginning with equal universal knowledge.
It is ironic and hypocritical that the very ones who introduced racism (as we know it today) to the world, and the ones who practice wrong racism to the extremes are the very ones who tell us now that racism is devilish. White folks mean that racism is devilish when it is practiced by others toward them; because when others practice it, it means that Caucasian males will not be able to abuse, misuse, rape, and ravish women of other races at will and nothing be done about it.
They would not be able to mongrelize (genocide by miscegenation) other races.
They would not be able to religiously spellbind and sexually stigmatize the bodies and minds of women of other races and use those women against the men of the women’s own race. In other words, right racism prevents Caucasian men from using the women of a race against their men.”

  355. Huh?

I see it from both perspectives. I can understand why it would be nice for them to both be the same “hue” but it’s just a cartoon but in real life more and more men of her shade don’t like women looking like her so people really shouldn’t complain too much.

Bangladeshis, Pakistanis and Indians were considered “blacks” in the UK before the Stephen Lawrence incident. They are now considered Asians. All women are fed fairytales at a young age, I just wonder why a fairytale aimed at black girls has a nonblack male? What is the hidden message. I am skeptical of Disney. Had friends that worked there and referred to it as The Rat (for Mickey Mouse).

  403. @ my badd

Some of yall need to get out of your surroundings cause if sterotypical images of black people is all you see you need to get out more. I don’t have any friends or family members (male or female) with a bunch of kids and foolishness, As a matter of fact all of my friends and cousins are havig babies now and they are married and in there 30’s. Its sad you all don’t know any decent black people.

    An Educated Black Man

  429. EtherUtopia

@lilith82 – Thank you for providing further clarification of your post. It was not my intention to offend anyone. I am very p*****ionate. What I attempted to convey was the cognitive psychology of white racism on skin color and its effects on the relationship dynamics between black men and women. The p*****age you point out reflects the perception that white folk have with light-skinned biracial/mixed women. I think it important to note while I understand and appreciate the uniqueness of black Americans, my frame of reference is African. That is my acculturation. And it is through this lens and context I view the paradigm of skin color. Old school Africans are more serious about blood than Europeans or Asians. As a whole, they are NOT interested in mixing their seed with white folks as we are here in America. To the African, the only humans are the black races, everyone else is a ***** extraction.

For reference, I’m including Sudanese/Egyptian author, Kola Boof, narrative of what is “authentic black”:

    Authentically Black–the STANDARD.

Doesn’t matter what country or tribe—but there is an aesthetic to BLACK looks, whether it’s a blue black Nubian….or a light brown Ibo….or a “red clay” Oromo…or a “yam yellow” Xhosa. They are all FULL BLACK or “authentic” as Africans say.

Many Black Americans who are “MIXED”—-are also considered FULL BLACK by African standards.

Such as…India Arie, Don Cheadle, Chris Rock, Angela B*****ett, Red Foxx, Gladys Knight, Aretha Franklin, Michael Jordan, Toni Morrison, T-Boz from TLC.

But NOT Halle Berry or Africa’s own Thandie Newton (who is considered African, but not “black”) or even “Chili” from TLC.

**Notice that Africans would consider yellow-skinned T-BOZ a “FULL BLACK”—but brown skinned “Chili” a “Mixed Black”.
    ___________

    BEFORE COLONIALISM and INVASION….

The fact remains that in Africa, –long before the White and Arab men enslaved/colonized us–Black People had their OWN STANDARD of “race” (race meaning family) that was linked directly to our African colors and features, all of which come from a MOTHERSEED–the first “race”—the NILOTICS.

The Nilotics are the “parents” of…”The Negroes”, which is our third race (after the “Pygmy” race).

NILOTICS are (a) Charcoal (b) very tall (c) have thin features–skinny nose, full lips, high cheekbones (d) have African Hair, but in some cases, “stick-straight” hair.

NEGROES are (a)Black Chocolate (b)muscular (c)have broad, thick features (d) *female Negro is world famous for Large, High shapely Rear-End. (E) ALWAYS have “African Hair”.

To be “BLACK” or “AFRICAN”—-You must be BORN FROM an indigenous “tribe” (Black Americans are the BLOOD of 150 tribes), you must have a CLAN NAME (ie. Hausa, Nilotic (Nubian or Cu*****e,Yoruban, Bantu), you must have
“The Proof” (African Hair, “nappy”)—-and your skin MUST BE visibly of the African shades, not “mixed”.

CHARCOAL (the Nilotic original: peoples of the Nile River)….
Nubians, Rural Ethiopians, West Kenyans and Cu*****es (Dinka, Nuer, Oromo, Mandan, Shilluk).

BLUE BLACK…Congolese, Gambians, Senegalese, Ivory Coast

*BLACK CHOCOLATE (The Continental Majority)….ALL OVER THE PLACE

    CHOCOLATE FUDGE….Nigerians, Ghanians

DEFINITE BROWN…..East Kenyans, the Black Egyptian cattle people

    Wet Wood Brown…..Southern Africans

Peanut Butter Brown….(the Ibo people, Nigeria)

    LIGHT BROWN….(Eritreans, Ethiopians, Somalis)

RED CLAY…..(“some” OROMO people are Red, some are Charcoal)

YAM YELLOW (think Toni Morrison and Redd Foxx, the rarest) (some Xhosha and Zulu)

Black American Scholars will often try to claim that….IN AFRICA, blacks come in all colors and textures……but that’s a LIE. The truth is, we have many nations in the North where invaders have created Mulatto Mixed Race populations (Morocco, Libya, Tunisia, Egypt)–we do not socialize or mix and they do not consider themselves “black or African”–unless they’re in America or trying to borrow money from rich Black Americans.

**Yam Yellow Africans have Negro features and African hair. They are NOT mixed and can only be found in the SOUTHERN African nations like Botswana, South Africa and Namibia—but they are RARE.

In Ethiopia and Somalia (two Blue Black nations), there is a RULING CL***** of MIXED RACE dark brown clans, mostly congregated in their Capital Cities—notice Addis Ababa. These people are usually dark brown but with straight hair and Italian or Asiatic features—notice the Ethiopian Track Runners who recently won the Marathon (they were blue black Ethiopians with nappy hair, skinny Nilotic facial features and that is what the vast MAJORITY of Ethiopians and Somali look like, but the MEDIA always focuses on the light mixed race brown ones).

A long, long Face and a large forehead is the standard look of a NILOTIC African–especially in Ethiopia and Somalia and Eritrea and Kenya.

The Mixed Race Ethiopians and Somalis are NOT “full black” and usually don’t *****ociate with “Pure Ethiopians, Somalis”….just ask Nurudin Farah.

  430. Caramel Qtpie

oh gosh its a damn character for crying out loud lol whew wee! folks up in here getting high blood pressure for nothing. She’s a beautiful princess and do they hell what if her name is tiana! i mean really? a name does not make a person, but the character does. uuugh expand your horizons!!!

  431. EtherUtopia

    Cont’d – Kola Boof…

    WHY IT MATTERS….

As the World Media is now trying to capitalize on our self-hatred and ENCOURAGE us that it’s “better” to breed….AWAY….from our origins and our place of “Knowing”……many Blacks, worldwide, are being Ultra-sensitive to the fact that we are being represented by a Mulatto/Mixed BUFFER RACE that doesn’t really reflect “our humanity” and especially not our “total experience”.

This is like going to the campus at SPELMAN and seeing a “Black Women’s Conference”—-only to notice that every single black woman on the panel is yellow, red and light brown (which is usually the case) with a Kinte cloth thrown over her shoulder. All my life in the U.S.—I have seen this—-where “dark skinned” males are allowed to represent BLACK PEOPLE, but not dark skinned women.

MOST Black American women are still darker than a paper bag and have African hair—-but in the Media, the vast majority of images of Black American women are represented by YELLOW or Light Brown women, very often Bi-racial and Mixed Race.

From Johnetta B. Cole to Julianne Mulveaux…to Halle Berry…..to news anchors like Carole Simpson….to the WIVES of most black men who “married black”……there is OVER-representation of Light Skinned women.

    And that is….racist.

As the reality of “colorism” continues to be an emerging TOPIC/ISSUE and as those who have traditionally suffered the most from it—dark skinned people (“authentic” blacks)—their is a groundswell of rage and ac*****ulated hurts, injustices that is forming an *****YSIS of just….who IS us…..and who is not.

Complicating this *****ysis is the fact that some mixed people, ie. Malcolm X (my hero), Barack Obama and Julianne Mulveaux (I love her!)…..are BLACKER than many “authentic” black folks….ie. Clarence Thomas, Wesley Snipes and Montel Williams.

Race and Color…..DO MATTER….because it’s been proven for a thousand years now that once people become mixed with White Blood—they wish to maintain that status and usually turn against the black origins, forced to shun it in order to keep their kids from “staining” the new skin. And as well….MANY dark black Africans are also reluctant to be *****ized by the blood of the invaders.

to read some of the comments i read on here (which is where i go wrong in the first place). i realize that there is a big group of black people that are soo illiterate regarding race issues and there is NOTHING anyone can do to fix that.

dears… there is a whole world out here that does not think the shade of your skin means you are pretty and/or ugly… matter fact there are generations of black people that do not thing dark is ugly and light is pretty. nor is the whole world mixed… in fact, there is a world out there that actually takes offense to mixing the race for the reasons mentioned: prettier kids, smarter kids, the whole world is mixed, b/c you have a better future. fyi…none of these things are true. and in fact i am a brown girl that has NEVER thought i was ugly. get a book and read something else besides bossip… but if you don’t you have a whole group that will stay in 1655 w/ you so enjoy.

Since Black people feel this cartoon fairy tale doesn’t represent properly then learn how to draw, animation, and a some computer graphics and creat your own cartoon. Me personally I wouldn’t create a story about a fairy tale, because fairy tales don’t exist it’s a fantasy. I’d create a cartoon that would be a fusion of fantasy yet an element of reality thrown in. 462. lanette

    this is some b/s……..

  463. Read carefully

First of all, I believe everyone has the right to marry who they love BUT let’s have a honest conversation about this. I am an educated black man with a beautiful black girlfriend who I plan on marrying. I am glad that she was positive when we started dating and did not pre-judge me as “being up to no good,” or “playing games.” I am tired of the underlying self-hate in the black community, the problems that face us are complex and deeply historical. I am deeply grateful to all you black women who fairly criticize the problems in our community, but who do not attack black men as a whole with unfair generalizations. But the discussion has been one sided, to all the black women who talk about black men not marrying black women: I agree there are problems, but let’s get some historical perspective here:
    1) Interracial marriage in America was made legal after the Supreme Court case of Loving v. Virginia in 1967. The case was brought by a black woman, Mildred Loving and a white man, Richard Loving. This was in 1967. This was before “Something New.” Point being that black women dating white men is not a recent trend that has been forced on black women due to the evils that black men represent.
    2) While the stereotype is that most famous black men date or marry white women, this has actually gone both ways historically. Doroth Dandridge, Josephine Baker, Lena Horne, Diahann Carroll, all famous black female stars from the 1940s through the 1970s, dated or married White men. There were many more, just naming some of the big names. So it seemed as though famous blacks in general felt the need to marry or date across color lines. This is never mentioned in most discussions though, it is made to seem as though only black men did this, in fact….
    3) In American history, interracial liasions were more likely to be between White men and Black women. This is not limited to what might have been forced relationships that occurred under slavery, but also inludes the period after the Civil War and the Reconstruction Era. Not all of these were issues of rape, in fact, the early black elite cl***** were the mulatto offspring of White men and black women. That is why today, the average African-American has 20% European heritage. Many black women willingly had relationships with White men, even during the era of segregation and lynching. This idea that black men were running around with white women at that time is overblown, in fact, the quickest way for a black man to endanger his life was to date a white women. Countless black men were lynched and beaten in the South for even being suspected of desiring a white woman or making a p*****. Off course white men were free to have affairs with black servant girls and the like. Even Strom Thurmond, a staunch segregationist, had his black girlfriend and biracial daughter, who he hid from public view. If you read up on Thurmond’s story, you will learn that his black mistress actually considered him a “nice man.” “Something new” actually is not new, it has a deep history is American society. This Thurmond story is just an illustration to show that some of these relationships between black women and white men were not forced, even when that white man was openly racist and segregationist. In fact, the rhetoric and fear of black men dating white women was actually created by white males who feared that integration would lead to their daughters dating black men. Off-course these men saw no hypocrisy in their pursuit of black mistresses. It is interesting that the rhetoric on inter-racial dating in the black community today actually echoes the thoughts of white male segregationists: White men are free to have black women, god forbid a black man being with a white women.
    4) I am a strong believer in personal responsibility. Off course black men as a whole need to be ambitious, family oriented, and respectful of black women. However, there are many such men and there are many who are married to black women, or dating them. In fact, the majority of marriages in the black community are between black men and black women. In fact; it should be white women complaining about white men going after asian women, statistically that is the most likely inter-racial couple in America. However, the talk out there is such that you would think that every black man in America is dating Kim Kardashian or an ugly replica. In fact, in the major US city where I live, most of the interracial couples i have seen are actually black women and white men. I have no problem with that, but I can not stand the double-standard in the discussion. When a black man dates a white women, it is due to his arrogance, self-hate etc. When a Black women dates a white man, its because she had no choice, since black men are all in jail, uneducated, gay or dating white women. These battle of the sexes fights lead us nowhere. It is unfair to generalize negatively about black men as a whole, just as any self-respecting black woman would get upset hearing a black man making negative generalizations about black women. I am against the negative attacks on BOTH sides, we should not be putting each other down. If black America is to progress, what is needed are strong black families based on two parent homes. But putting down black men as a whole will not help, it only angers the good black men who actually care and are trying to do what is right. The black men who really don’t give a F&(* are not the ones who even care to debate it, trust me.

  464. Menominee Nation

Who gives a flaming flying turd what the prince is. *****ody remembers the prince in fairy tales. He’s the least important character. The important characters are the princess or female main character and that character’s little helpers.

And who is to say that Cinderella is a pretty name? Sounds like some hood or hippy creation of a name to me.

Damn, sometimes yall get on my damn nerves with this crap. Besides the target audience is not thinking about all of that anyway. Racial differences are taught by the ignorant ***** grown folks in the world. Without our wack *****es they would grow up to treat everyone based on what really counts.

MLK and Malcolm would flip most of yall the bird over some of these comments. A racist is a racist no matter what your color is. And being Black does not give you a p*****. It just makes you look just as stupid as a racist Jewish person.

  476. mixed

the prince is clearly mixed. the movie is set in New Orleans, which has a pretty large mixed race population. it isn’t offensive. can we wait till it comes out b4 we start casting stones??

  477. tina

    Ain’t nothing wrong with that.

Tatiana is a name of Slavic/Romanian origin; however, it’s popular in many countries, including Latin countries: Romania, Russian, Italy, South America, etc…

She could be Afro-Hispanic/Latino, Afro-french, North African from a former french/spanish territory, Southeast Asian-French/Italian, Black/Mixed Romanian, Indo-Aryan-Romanian, Dark skinned Gypsy/Roma, Black Russian, Eritrean, Somalian…a number of things. Maybe she’s from one of the former French territories between East Africa and West Indian, like Reunion.

Naveen is a name of of Indian origin, but it’s popular across the Desi diaspora. He could be Arab (black or white arab) Berber, Persian, Pakistani, Sri Lankan, Northeast African, Indian, Indo-Aryan, South Asian, Asian, Muslim…a number of things.

People want to call her black because of her dark skin. Why be so simple? Human bloodlines, culture and society is much more intricate than what these simplistic social race labels indicate. And love is more powerful than any boundary.

Get over race people. All of our bloodlines, no matter what we look like, are inter linked…

I’m happy disney made a black princess… and she look like a black woman too..YAY!!
I don’t mind them not giving her a black prince who cares, in disney movies the focus is not on the guys because most young girl go and see disney fairttale movies. I think it shows little black girls that love come in different colors and you don’t have to wait for a black man.

  486. Chinadoll08

People stop complaining…Disney is trying to appeal to everyone and it works for me because there has never been a black princess before. And I am looking for my white..latino..asian or black prince so the concept works for me. I also concur with chloe about showing love can come from any person… this is a far cry from the racist past of disney so let’s just enjoy.

  487. Lee from shaolin

Wasn’t the late Walt Disney a racist?

  488. Janae

I’m SO HAPPY to finally see a BLACK princess in a Disney film. I’m even more excited to see one with black features and characteristics. I might agree with the criticism were it not for the fact that black men choose and showcase their non-black “princesses” in the public eye on a frequent and extensive basis. I don’t hear anyone complaining about the impact that has on the way young black males view the value of women who look like themselves and their own mothers. It’s time that black women are shown in relationships with non-black men. Black men are frequently and typically cast opposite non-black women in films, and black-looking Hispanic women don’t count as black (for this critique). Black-looking black women are as beautiful, desirable, and worthy of love as non-black females are. And, that message is rarely sent. I’m still waiting for the day Black Americans cast a woman who looks like Djimon Honsou as the leading love interest in a film opposite someone like hmmm…Shemar Moore. I’m just waiting to hear Black Americans talk about how beautiful and sexy SHE is…how much they want their daughters to look like her (without them being mixed). What do blacks have to say about THAT? Yes, I am a frustrated black woman. But, I’m not frustrated about interracial relationships or love. They’re valid relationships and should be supported when genuine. What I’m frustrated about is the disparity in the allocation of oppression for blackness. I’m tired of black females being put down for the very same characteristics black men are extolled for. And, my anger is primarily directed toward blacks themselves. Who cares if non-black people want their women to look non-black? That makes sense. What DOESN’T make sense, is when BLACK people expect their black women to look non-black. I’m not putting down Djimon. I’m just using him as an example because he is well known. Why does he have the right to be told he’s attractive, sexy, etc. while a black woman who looks JUST LIKE HIM is told she’s UGLY (by BLACK people) and shut away in a closet somewhere? Why can black men feel comfortable with their own dark skin, thick lips, kinky hair, and broad noses while at the same time rejecting women who match? Black women shouldn’t have to look like the beautiful Alicia Keys or Keri Hilson to feel valuable or lovable. It would be a different situation if black women didn’t come out looking like Flava Flav or Craig Mack, but the fact is, so of them do. Or, let’s mention a black man many people find attractive, Idris Elba. How many BLACK people would say a non-mixed black woman who looked like him (coloring, hair, features) is hot or ideal? Honestly, if Flava can feel like he can be accepted by anyone, why can’t a black woman who looks like him? Before black people want to start harping on the hypocrisy of Disney, they need to deal with their own. Just a thought….

  489. Dear God

    @Lee.

They say we was racist and homophobic, but hey we didn’t know that guy.

And Prince Naveen looks East Indian to me, but maybe I’m just looking to much into it.

  490. Darkesthourgl*****

Too many of y’all are trippin’ over this cartoon movie and none of us haven’t even seen it yet. If the princess did have a black prince, people would cry over him being too dark or too light or suspect. Disney can’t please everybody and it’s more for the children to enjoy not racist *****s that *****yze everything black and white. As far as the prince’s ethnicity, who cares. He’s there to save the princess and make her happy. I like the priness name, too. I don’t know any Tianas but it’s not ghetto.

  491. Darkesthourgl*****

    *princess’*

  492. o

Naveen respresents the east indian culture like the actor Naveen Andrews of “Lost” fame.

  493. The Third Eye

    @ chloe

The race of the prince does matter Chloe, especially since little black girls will be seeing this film like you’ve already mentioned. So a black prince can’t give the love, affection, and respect this little princess deserves? What the hell is that about. It’s disrepectful!

Have you seen any white or non white disney princess involved in some interacial relationship or courtship? Disney is definitely trying to take a swing. I know it’s 2009 and racism shouldn’t be so big of an issue but it is.

I’m so sick of people being brainwashed that it’s gone because we have a black president.

And on that note it was only a land slide on the electoral college portion of the election. When it came to popular vote Obama and McCain were close! So NOT ALL white people were with the change and off race!!

  494. About it

    @ Good Intentions
Naveen looks suspect to me. LOL!! You know you are just wrong!!

  495. Oscuro

Being Black is just a fad I guess. The only reason Diss n’ me is making this movie is because now it’s fair game with our new president. Again we are reinvented and exploited, and again neither taken seriously but seen as a mere token of the p*****ing ages. This film should not be seen as anything but a another cheap ploy by a company that exploits EVERYONE’s race (mulan), culture (pocahontas) and values (High school musical) for their own profit. Companies will rip apart your culture and squeeze it into any narrow package to make a buck.

    @Read Carefully

Thank you for your very thoughtful posts (and EtherUtopia’s posts were very informative as well — thank you). Although some may p***** over it because of its length, it was well worth the read — and I liked your citation of historical examples.

“) While the stereotype is that most famous black men date or marry white women, this has actually gone both ways historically. This is never mentioned in most discussions though, it is made to seem as though only black men did this, in fact…”

Very true — In fact, I had a conversation with my mother over the holidays after the death of Eartha Kitt (who also had relationships with white men), and she gave me a list of black actresses, such as the women you named, who were linked with non-black men. It was eye-opening, to say the least.

“It is unfair to generalize negatively about black men as a whole, just as any self-respecting black woman would get upset hearing a black man making negative generalizations about black women. I am against the negative attacks on BOTH sides, we should not be putting each other down. If black America is to progress, what is needed are strong black families based on two parent homes.”

    Another good and astute point.

its not that serious…to kids its just a cartoon they don’t see in color like the rest of the world does…everything doesn’t have to be about race and the prince may not be black but in that pic he doesn’t look white either….I agree America is a melting pot so this movie reflects that!

  525. Shades

ditto Angela. He looks more hispanic than he does white anyway. Other minorities have the same problem with representation in the media, so we should stop acting like it is only happening to us. Just because there was a Mulan, Jasmine, and Dora the explorer, doesn`t mean we are being more left out. Worry less about what color disney character your child is watching, and more about how you are raising them.

Oh please look peeps this is nothing new! what do u expect! Check out how the movies show either an african american man, and a white or other ethnic woman. Or a white or ethinic man with with an african american woman. Rarely do u see an african american man starring in a movie or show with an african american woman together. The news mostly does the same thing with their newcasts. Check out all of the dancing with the stars episodes! Always there is a mixed couple when it comes to the african american man or woman. Never an african american man and an african american woman together. There is so much “hidden racism” so why are we so shocked. And the bad part is we keep letting it happen. For charlie’s angels movie, they didn’t even bother to put an african american woman in the movie, they skipped over us and used an asian woman!!!!!

Allow me to apologize for the black women who sought to only spite you but for everyone that will, there is one who won’t.

I too have dated black men with baggage and if i were to roll it over to the proceeding relationship, I would never have one. Whenever you have a preconceived notion in this case, you metaphysically get what you expect.

What you should do is set youreself some standards and take no shorts. I support my mate in every way and I am loyal and I respect him and let him be him. I don’t ever ask him for anything unless it takes four hands and it’s too many diseases in the world to be infected with and stupid to take the risk knowing I have safety right at home.

On the otherhand, I feel the same way as you do about Black men because of the multiple race of women I know who constantly complain about you and I have experience dating a many confused brothers no matter how cool I was to them. I won’t knock your opinion, just want to share with you a resolution.

  534. Mississippi librarian

    @Illuminate Truth

That is so true. I read with interest the post from the young man who spoke about the ‘baggage’ that Black Women bring. In truth, the Black woman has not had the luxury of having someone to slay her dragons, open her doors, and rescue her. The position of Blacks in society dictated that she take an active role in providing for her family, keeping them safe, and serving as a buffer between the Black male and a very hostile world. In that sense, we owe our very existence to the strong Black woman, however the very thing that has saved us and allowed us to flourish as a race(an independent Black Woman) has also become something that Black men find intimidating. We are strong because we have had to be. No one pays attention when we cry, our tears do not have the same effect as the white womans – when she cries everybody stops what they are doing to find out what is wrong and how they can help. *****ody, sadly not often even the Black male, does that for us – they don’t care why we are crying. We are left to solve our own problems by any means necessary. And that, my friend, will make you strong.

  535. STARcasm

    @ Not This Sh*t Again

Exactly. Or fetch a broadway tic as did The Lion King. They are full of sh*t and we need to produce and characterize our own films. Black men should wonder what the f*ck is up still in the 21st, but they won’t. It’s a sad case. If we could just get a a few famous black men to kiss their black (not light complexioned) wives ***** in the public like Barack does perhaps that would be a start to really “something new”.

I mean if this stuff was so true, why don’t you have a Black prince with a white girl? I mean lets just be honest for a change. Do you really think the people that handle this stuff would be so “progressive” when it comes to the imagery their children are subject to? Answer: NOT

You know damn well if it was a Black Prince with a White or Latina Princess. Ya’ll be throwing a hissy fit.

The Black Genders seem only to look out for themselves.

  548. LOLA

JUST LET YALL KNOW NAVEEN IS AN INDIAN NAME. NOT A WHITE NAME. SO HE COULD BE INDIAN, AND I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT NATIVE AMERICAN….

  549. Roe ski Love - The checks in the mail

@ Black Woman on this post- Just be glad that the white man is finally checking for you, even if it’s only in the cartoons. haha just kidding, I personally love your evil *****es.

  550. Divine

This is about money. It is a know fact that Hollywood believes if you have a black couple, the m*****es/mainstream interprets it as a black movie.

All Will Smith movies (where he is the star) he had a none black woman as his girlfriend or wife for that reason.

Hollywood could careless that it does infact send messages to children about the viability of a black couple. As if having a black partner is not ideal or is a bad thing.

It’s not about being color blind. I would even say this is the opposite of color blind. They are well aware of what they are doing.

  551. budluv

well maybe the princess isn’t black maybe she is dark skinned brazilian i mean look at her hair her boyfriend is close to white with a accent, she seems to not be black but brazilian unless they have a just4me kit in her kingdom

  552. Gina

He looks tan, plus his name is Naveen so he’s probably indian. LOL @ Whut??’s comment. SO TRUE.

  553. linn

i always liked the man with good hair

  554. He look as black as Mr President to me

  555. About it

    @ budluv:
Your comment just proves the other posters’ comments about people losing their identity and consciousness. I don’t know if you are Brazilian. A dark skin Brazilian? Don’t you mean Black Brazilian or Afro South American? What is the aversion of saying Black Brazilian or Afro-Brazilian? That comment shows why so many of Brazil’s poor are black. Brainwashing. Yes, Brazil is very mixed, but that obviously hasn’t improved how many view themselves or how they are living.

  556. blondie

i thought the price looks latino no?

    pm
If that was a white princess with a black prince. black females would be a march on washington.

    LOL

  557. BostonBitty

STFU Black people. We need to take a long hard look at the colorstruck men that are the movers and sheakers of our so called community. They (BET types) project this Light skin woman, dark burnt ***** man thing every day!! Forget TV, just look at AA families and famous people to see it for yourself. Africans have this problem less. But anyway, not a black female character is with a light male character. BIG F***ING DEAL! get over it.

What is the Difference btn these CHARACTERS and Barack and Michelle. Backwards ***** NEGROES.

  558. BostonBitty

You guys need to check out the Black Celebrity Kids site to see what I am talking about. ALLLLLLL THE KIDS ARE MIXED/LIGHT/GREEN EYED. A lot of black men have a complex and it is sad.

  559. EtherUtopia

@naija boy – Don’t fret about White Devil. His computer name let’s you know he knows who he is. The thing is…White Devil can’t tell you his place OR point of origin. He can’t tell you his nationality. If you trace Europe past a certain time, it didn’t exist.

The truth is white folks don’t have an origin or nationality on this planet, so they made up one.

Black people, on the other hand, are as ancient as this planet. There are those among us who hold the knowledge of this planet’s history and recordings of those beings who inhabit the surface and subterranean worlds. We know who the white beings – the albino species – are. That’s why we set up laws to prevent miscegenation with them.

We knew that the Luciferians are the Halaabeans, Flugelrods or Hulub, the fathers of one of the Albino races.

The Flugelrods were the original Nordics before they crossbred with different races to acquire the appearance they possess presently. They are the originators of the Nordic race and live in a cavern beneath the Antarctic. Their chief is named Korg, the original Halaabites, meaning “to blush,” or Hulub. Flugelrods became known as the Neanderthals, or simply cave men, eating raw flesh, running around on fours, and living in a state of bestiality. They found their way into the inner caverns of the planet. Many of them took residence there while others in time used the tricknology (sic) and terrorized other innocent tribes. This seed moved behind the Caucasus Mountains and up into Russia and became known as the Khazars.

And, wool haired seven ether, orientalist of this seed called Asiatic were known as the Sefarad or Sefaradim Jew. These are the grafted devils that Yaaquub created. They are your Flugelrods, original Khazars, and your Asiatic, Ashkhe*****ms. Their symbol being the universe, the moon called Ummar, the sun called Qamar, and the bright morning star, they (also) use the crescent moon and the pentagram that is the 5-pointed star.

This pale man, or Halaabean, Flugelrod should not be confused with the albino seed, the cursed Canaanites, meaning “low landers,” the descendants of Canaan, of 4,000 years ago before 2,000 years ago, or 6,000 years ago. The Caucasians who have blonde hair and blue eyes, are descendants from the Flugelrods. Canaanites’ leprosy is the result of a curse of defected genes p*****ed down to him from his mother Anis who was an Anaqite (Deuteronomy 9). Remember the Flugelrods and Canaanites produce extremely low levels of melanin, both are melanin recessive beings.

NOTE: It is important to note that the acts of bestiality committed by these melanin-recessive beings produced venereal diseases and ape-like or half-human/half-beast creatures – due to their females mating with Jackals (ancestor of the dog) and other beasts housed further into the interior of the Antarctic caverns.

Now, we know why Africans are serious about blood – and genetics and consider only the blacks – the motherseed – as “hue” man.

  560. OH?

BOSSIP YOU’RE A BUNCH OF RACIST PIGS. WHO CARES WHAT COLOR THE PRINCE IS.

  561. Carla

Oh I have a princess tale, but the female lead isn’t a real princess, but she’s a trust fund baby, lol. Her name is Brie Abercrombie. And her new guy will be look like Jim Jones, he’ll work at a Silican Valley like computer firm and he’ll be sort of nerdy with gl*****es, lol… How about that ?

  562. Carla

And Brie will work at diner part time and intern at a genetics lab.

  563. chloe

    @ third eye..
Remember the story of pochahintas that was an interrcaial fairytale. And never once in my post was I talking about how racism is over… I was just saying how I’m happy that they finally made a black princess and I could care less if the prince was black.. the focus is not on the prince. You need to calm down and brush the chip off of your shoulder and stop looking for racism all the time.. trust me that is no way to live and you will carry a burden with you everywhere!

  564. lolo

don’t be ignant. no one named naveen is white. prolly some indian dude. melting pot indeed.

  565. Bull

It is bull. if they want to experiment with melting pots why’d they have to do it with the FIRST and probably ONLY black princess???? Besides they already had Pocahontas and some white guy. This was not to be progressive. This was to send a message to black folks. They want to accept us on their terms only.

They know exactly what they were doing. Just coudn’t stand TWO happy black folks together.

  566. Nashawn A.

He does look creole or from brazil…lol…the hair is weird though
But honestly, I am happy that they are even basing a feature film on a black girl, which disney has sorely lacked-seeing that black girls are a big part of their base. (Although their channel has a lot more shows and made for tv movies that feature black girls in leading roles—… Read MoreJump In!, That’s So Raven, …and they have Corey in The House…a show that focuses on a black boy…..so I mean…wth I am not mad)
At the end of the day, I don’t know why we are complaining. Leave it alone. We can’t control the entire movie. At the end of the day its a story, and if people want to complain….then they need to start lining up in front of Viacom and say something about BET and VH1. Shoot…that is the real enemy.

Interracial dating is not the worst thing in the world. Everyone complaining about this just makes our community look that much worse….that we are so intolerant we dont even want a black princess unless she is with a black man….I will be going to see the movie with my little sister. She can marry who she wants. Black men, white men, creole and Brazilean! lol

  567. kissofdanger

wow disney is keeping up with the times. Nice interracial couple! Kudos to Disney.

  568. EtherUtopia

    ———————-
@Bull – To the untrained mind, this is just a harmless animated film for children. Black folks have a right to express their displeasure in Disney’s selection of the lead couple. It is sending a message. I don’t care if the storyline includes mulattoes in Louisiana.

When a people don’t have a cultural or spiritual identity, they will follow the dictates of the melanin-recessive beings who control propaganda and the media.

It is time for us to separate from the black devils among us who want to “willingly” mix with the albino caveman seed. Let them go. There is much that they do not know to their detriment.

Those who recognize that they are of royal blood, and are the motherseed from the garden of Ethiopia (Ether Utopia), the bloodberry would NEVER be deceived into genocide.

  569. Carla

Hey I just put a story idea out there that’s all, lol. And Ether Utopia, you seem smart but you’re starting to sound like Sista Soulja back in the day, relax, lol…

  570. Amanda

I can’t wait to see this movie! Finally a movie with a black princess. I dun care what color the prince is, because it’s not about the prince. Besides my BFF is named Tiana and she is verrrry mixed and I think her name is beautiful, not ghetto. We should stop putting each other down for petty *****. “ghetto” names , buttery to black complexions ALL part of our heritage.

    Carla

Hey I just put a story idea out there that’s all, lol. And Ether Utopia, you seem smart but you’re starting to sound like Sista Soulja back in the day, relax, lol…
    ———————————
@Carla – I am very much relaxed. I never validation from anyone regarding the level or gradation of intellect that I possess. As I said earlier, I am a p*****ionate person. I speak bluntly. Subtlety is not my strength. I figure if others can be so blatant in disseminating lies, I can do the same with truth. Some can handle it. Some can’t.

  572. EtherUtopia

    missing word *needed

  573. Nashawn A.

    EtherUtopia

You can be mad. But instead of black people being *****ed off ….about a movie that someone else created! People need to work on putting their own images out there for the black community. If you don’t like what you see, dont go see it. Simple as that.

  574. EtherUtopia

Nashawn A, please spare me. No one is mad. We’re having a discussion. At times, it is difficult to decipher tone.

However, I will dismiss your admonishment as misdirected. I could care less about Disney; I’m discussing a principle.

You have the brain of a grape. And, after reviewing your earlier comments, I’ve reasoned that you are the antithesis to a loving, cohesive, African-centered black family. You are misguided. No need to waste any energy on you.

  575. Gigi

    m tizzy

What son cant be light skinned or spanish?

People complain about everything….How about its showing love can happen between any race?
    ___________________________________________________
If that is what they are trying to show then let them put that Cinderella chick up there with a black prince charming. Disney you gotta come better than that!

  576. Nashawn A.

    LMAO

You sound like someone who got stuck at a black power rally in the 20th century.

News flash: We are in the 21st century. Time to get a calendar.

    What you said:
It is time for us to separate from the black devils among us who want to “willingly” mix with the albino caveman seed. Let them go. There is much that they do not know to their detriment.

    What that sounds like:
GArvey Talk….moving back to Africa…blah blah blah

Albino seed? You sound like you hate white people. You sound like you hate people from other races. You sound jaded.
Times are changing. And the way you spoke earlier, sounded as if you had a lot of racism in your system. Racism just doesnt work one way you know….tsk

    Sigh.

Me the antithesis of this ” supposed black family”…..hah. You are a laugh.
I feel sorry for you, because although you speak as if you are intelligent, it is quite obvious that you are lacking in some areas….the most of which being love.

  577. Blaze

EtherUtopia, you need to make it clear that everything you posted is written by KOLA BOOF and not you! You took all that stuff directly from her autobiography and other books by KOLA BOOF. It’s not your writings and the way you got it thrown up there like its you aint cool.

  578. Blaze

If they had put a black prince with this movie I don’t think I would believe that. Most black men on top are too self-hat’n to choose a beautiful black woman especially one who looks like shes black.

Btw, I am married to a wonderful black man and he agrees with me on this. We are both dark skinned
and we talk all the time about how colorstruck our people are. We both see the majority of blacks as self-hat’n colorstruck. We don’t deny it.

As for images that we show little black girls, what about the images that black men on BET are showing to little black girls?

Every music video has a racist rule that beautiful
black women (who look black) dont exist and black men can only love non black women. Thats from black men on BET.

This movie is just backing up what black men are already telling little black girls and that is…your best bet being ‘dark&female’ is not with a brother.

Black men in the media are the ones teaching black boys that they must marry outside the race to be happy and successful. Thats why so many younger black males are so damn miserable because they dont even give black girls a chance due to the image BM have set. Think about it. They spend their whole life kissin up to Nonblack women, chasing and begging these broads and then claiming these broads are better than black women. But in reality these boys are miserable and you can see it. They self-destruct and they dont like themselves.

I am glad that I was lucky and found a wonderful BLACK MAN who is ALL THAT! We are both glad to be black and we would not be with anyone else because we know the secret about “conditioning.” We are black, beautiful and successful and we have incredibly beautiful black children who look just like us.

BLACK MEN ARE INDEED FAIRYTALE PRINCES! MY HUSBAND IS ONE!

  579. sally29

I think it’s really cool that the new disney princess is black. I think that black women have a problem with accepting themselves as beautiful, so they tend to fight for black men too, when there is no need to. They are men, they don’t need defending.

This is huge for little black girls and this is something they need for their self esteem…so let them have their moment. Everybody knows in these fairytales it’s all about what the GIRL wants…the prince is just an accessory in the fairy tale.

  580. Toni Montana

maybe i’m twisted but i think its great he’s not black. we do not have many media examples of white/asian race men with black women (except what, DeNiro and his wife?) no sitcoms, nuthin. like were not good enough for them.

tons of black men and white/spanish women tho. for us i guess were limited to black men or single motherhood.

meh. just my southern-born 80’s baby state of mind… i guess.

its a kids movie lets all TRY not to think in color on this one, K?

  581. EtherUtopia

    @Nashawn A

Why is it *****umed that when a black person expresses support and love for other blacks that it means hatred of non-black people? This is never a forethought when other peoples express racial pride or support of their respective. Oddly, it is only ‘taboo’ for blacks.

What is even more baffling is that the folks (who just so happen to be white) who control propaganda and media put out deceptive lies, imagery and insults to make black people hate themselves – and it is accepted and unchallenged. I find it interesting that many ethnic watchdog groups like, for instance, the Jewish Anti-Defamation League works overtime to “protect” and “control” how Jews are depicted in all media forums, but we (blacks) don’t.

To date, Nashawn, I don’t know of any black organizations plotting global extermination, germ warfare, mind control for enslavement of any group on this planet, but yet through the freedom of information act, there are all kinds of decl*****ified governmental do*****ents detailing horrific plans of destruction for select groups – who just so happened to be black and brown.

And you talk to me about hate?

You are beyond stupid. You have a synaptic disorder.

”Albino seed? You sound like you hate white people. You sound like you hate people from other races. You sound jaded.”

Nashawn, white folk are melanin-recessive beings. That is a known fact. On the genetic spectrum, they are considered albinos. How is that hate? I am well aware of the genetic composition of the people that cl*****ify themselves as ‘white’. Mind you, many indigenous people, especially continental Africans know it, too.

In case you didn’t know, Africans are MORE serious about blood than Europeans or Asians.

Black people have been in the United States for 400 years and look how diluted we are. It has caused us to regress. We have been weakened physically, mentally and spiritually.

Africa, on the other hand, has been invaded, colonized and enslaved by Europeans and Arabs for over 1500 years and is STILL overwhelmingly BLACK!!

STILL DON’T GET IT, DO YOU?

Old school Africans would rather die than *****ize their blood. And, if you truly knew who the pale races were, you would be horrified (and that’s putting it lightly) to carry ANY strain of their mutated genes. Perhaps, you are mixed and probably why you’re griping.

Me, jaded? LMAO You’re really don’t know me.

I’d go to the highest mountaintop and scream out loud – I’m black and I’m proud!

This is why I don’t fit in with some black Americans – especially in mentality.

My problem in America is that I am not a “n-i-g-g-e-r”–I do not wish to be white or to have children who look more like white people than like my ancestors in Africa.

And anyone who dares to say this is suspect for rejecting white supremacy.

Truly, I love all human beings…but white people are nothing special to my African eyes.

I can not be something that deep down in my soul I’m not. I was blessed to possess the most refined of all chemicals – melanin.

I am unequivocally and unapologetically black – dark black. And, I wouldn’t change it for NOTHING in the world – in this Universe – or in my next life!!!

  582. EtherUtopia

  583. EtherUtopia

@Blaze – I stand corrected. I didn’t note it in the post on Mar 18, 2009 – 12:52 pm, but I did in the others where it was warranted.

    Thank you.

  584. Gigi

    EtherUtopia,

    You are too funny!

  585. chichi

It seems that a lot of people don’t understand what the uproar is about with this movie. Quite a number of you are stating that race shouldn’t be important, and why should it matter if the prince is white or non black–it’s all about being equal and harmonious right? In fact you believe the people that are complaining about a white prince are the real racists, because they wouldn’t complain in the first place. Wrong. Race is important. Why is it that down the line of the Disney princesses (excluding Pocohontas) that their costars or counterparts were of the same race? Why all of a sudden when it comes to the black princess that Disney wants to change it up? It would makes sense to follow the Disney formula or blue print. I tell you why they changed the scheme of things because Disney wanted to send a message. You know what that message is? It is not practical for a black woman and black man relationship to exist. It is not the norm; therefore, a black woman would have to look elsewhere for love for her prince. In addition it is also saying that a black man could never be a prince or atleast a prince to a black woman. Yes we love interracial relationships, but why is it that the first black princess has to compromise herself to find love. It would make more sense for a white princess to have an interracial relationship first since we’ve already seen her have her white prince. Yes I am glad that Disney thought to have a black princess, but I am certainly not thankful. If they’re going to have a black princess they should present it in the right way. Also just like how I want my daughter to be able to identify with a princess, I want the same for my son. You mean to tell me that as a young black man that he can’t have someone to identify with and that he can’t be a prince. Mulan didn’t have this much controversy because the people that put that project together were knowledgeable about the history, and presented the story in a way that was uplifting to the asian community; however, with this project the people behind it don’t seem to have the same vigiliance. From the start there have been many problems as if they just decided to do the movie without doing their homework and it shows. It is very unfortunate because I have grown up watching Disney movies and looked forward to the fruitation of finally having a black princess, but I will not support this movie because of the damaging message that it is sending. There are beautiful black relationships.

  586. Pulersvartedamer Dagenlang

You Americans need to stop using the word race when differentiating between groups of the human population. There is a word for people who believe in such segregation and that is racists. Cl*****ifying people by race is scientifically outdated long ago and is seen as backward in Western Europe where such beliefs are generally connected to *****sm.

This is a great initiative by Disney. There are few Indians to be seen in Western media although their numbers in the West are significant. Asian males are usually projected as submissive, non-sexual beings in popular culture while black American males are usually projected as the complete opposite. When what you Americans call an interracial couple is projected in media it is usually either a black male with a white female or a white male with an Eastern-Asian female. With Barack Obama elected president of the nation in the driving seat of the Western civilization it is time to change such stereotypes and end the segregation of fictional ‘human races’.

  587. chichi

The issue isn’t about segregation but displaying black love. It’s like saying that there will never be a black prince and that he is not good enough for a black princess. Done the line every other ethnicity was represented by their counterparts, but not the black princess, why is that?

  588. Pulersvartedamer Dagenlang

    chichi:

We all know there are black princes in the real world. The only constitutional monarchy in Africa is Swaziland, where the relationship between a prince and princess is hardly romantic from a Western point of view since the king is practising polygamy like there was no tomorrow.
Monarchy is on its way out anyway.
An Indian prince marrying a woman of black African descent woman I would say is more like saying that Indian women are not good enough for an Indian prince than your example.

No offence, but to me you are sounding as conservative as the Ku Klux Klan. Until the very recent introduction of love marriages among royalty (as in the most recent marriages of the crown heirs of Norway, Sweden and Spain), the norm among royalty has been marriage between royal families. To marry within the same ethnicity is not the norm between royalty. Off the top of my head I recollect that the prince of the UK is greek, the mother of the King of Jordan is English, the princess of Denmark is Australian, a former princess of Denmark (and the mother of two current Danish princes) is English/Chinese.

And what exactly is your definition of “displaying black love” ?

Similar expressions like displaying “white love”, “Chinese love”, “Arabian love”, etc, would to me sound like an urge to people who are considered belonging to these groups to segregate from outsiders.

  589. Pulersvartedamer Dagenlang

I think a lot of people are mistaken about the word racism.
Racism and racial discrimination are not synonyms.
Racism is merely a belief that humans can be divided into racial categories and racial discrimination is the belief that the racial categories you believe humans can be put into have specific racial traits that differ in value.
Many of the people here seem to be racist in the true definition of the word.

  590. A black princess named after me that is awesome isn’t that cool or what

  591. 1oh-ate

The prince could easily be black…

Black like Ice-T, LL Cool J, Common, or Dwayne Johnson/The Rock…

And besides, New Orleans has a history of white men and black women trying to have legitimate relationships but U.S. laws would not facilitate them…
