Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen

Remember the teaser for the first movie to have a black princess, “The Princess and the Frog“?  Well, people are stark raving mad over the fact that Princess Tiana ends up with a white-looking cat named Prince Naveen:

Disney’s first black princess, Princess Tiana – and the ‘white’ Prince Naveen

Move over Snow White. Make room for Disney’s first black princess.

With America’s first African-American president in the White House, Disney is counting on an African-American princess to be a big hit in Hollywood.

But even though The Princess and the Frog isn’t released until later this year, it is already stirring up controversy.

For while Princess Tiana and many in the cartoon cast are black – the prince is not.

Which has led some critics to complain that Disney has ducked the opportunity for a fairytale ending for a black prince and princess.

While some have hailed Disney’s decision as a reflection of melting pot America, others say the company is sending out a mixed message.

Although the black princess’s love interest in the new animated musical is called Prince Naveen of Maldonia and is voiced by a Brazilian actor, he looks more white than black in photographs from the film that Disney have released.

Even though she ends up with a somewhat white fella, is having the first black princess progress enough?

…or is this just some straight up bullsh*t??

BLACK PRESIDENT, BLACK PRINCESS, BLACK PEOPLE ARE COMIN UP…

  • White Devil

If they had a black prince they would have had to show him beating her up to make it realistic. (Kidding)

  • Angee

I think this shows some progress, but I think the Prince should be a brother, or at least look like one! Just me!

  • BritChick

hmmmmm..ok..i have to think about that one

  • Apoc87

    He’s light skinned-ded.

  • Whut??

A Black Prince would never marry a Black woman. Do Black men even marry Black women anymore??? Disney is keeping it real.

    LOL @ “Apoc87″.

  • http://www.freewebs.com/bestsexever Christy

OF course they can’t have a Black Prince. Then it would be a Black fairytale.. And that’s only allowed during Black history month.. Yall should get a sound bite of that jive talkin cricket.. Reminds me of the frog from Dumbo?.. Disney is the BEAST!

  • m tizzy

What son cant be light skinned or spanish?

People complain about everything….How about its showing love can happen between any race?

  • pm

If that was a white princess with a black prince. black females would be a march on washington.

  • What the…

Well I don’t know about all that but there a gang of Naveen’s in the Indian community…my question if he sounded like John Witherspoon, would it matter then?

THAT PRINCE DOES LOOK A LITTLE MEXICAN…

  • NK

Really if you think about it,the “Disney Prince” is usually some ambiguous race and he is not the focus. If he would have been black then it would be marketed as a black cartoon, instead of a cartoon where the princess so happens to be black.

  • The Official Mrs. Carter

Of course they should have created a Black Prince for the Princess but I guess its another case of white america giving us just enough to say we’re ‘making progress’… Like they are doing us a favor…? This pisses me off!!

  • mickey

CAN YOU PEOPLE EVEN SEE RIGHT HE DOESN’T EVEN LOOK WHITE. AND ISN’T MOST BLACK FOLKS FROM NO MIXED ANY WAY AND CAN PASS FOR WHITE ????

It would have to be either or.

black princess with a mixed character or a black prince with a white/asian/light skinned hispanic

kudos to Disney for keeping up with the times

  • My2Cents

Disney is keeping it real. Prince Charming is not associated with the typical black man. So, I don’t see anything wrong with what they are doing. Hopefully this will encourage young black girls to raise their standards higher and stop settling for the bottom of the barrel.

  • HarlemWorld

Don’t support this ish! Black love is still alive!

  • johnny

Naveen is an Indian (South Asian – red dot, not feather) name. This character is clearly not a white man. It’s most likely supposed to be a South Asian man. Everybody calm down and at least get your facts straight.

  • My2Cents

    @PM,

What black prince? They don’t exist. Disney is telling the truth. They are just keeping it real. A typical black man doesn’t fit the bill of Prince Charming. So, they can’t portray what doesn’t exist.

  • The Official Mrs. Carter

On a positive note.. I like that dress Princess…

  • ATLfinest

I am not even mad at Disney. When I look black cartoons, the cute little girls are always beige and the bullys are dark brown. It’s ashamed that it took a white company to give us a dark brown princess. I could care less the color of her Prince as long as she has one. On BET she would have been a dark princess who would have finally got a ring from one of her baby daddies.

  • HarlemWorld

Actually its not all that clear… His features are white enough… it’s just Disney playin’ it safe, they are not going to “blackout” the entire animated cast.

Kinda like the Obamas… Barack’s light softens Michelles’s dark which in turns appeases the masses of coloreds that seek a symbol. It’s a ploy called conditioning.

  • Holla

People always gotta complain about ish. First black Disney Princess and it still ain’t good enough. What difference does it make??? Damn sometimes we cry too damn much. Stop caring so much about ethnicities of cartoon characters and start raising our kids in two parent households, staying in school, not going to jail, not selling drugs, not spending the majority of our money on items that depreciate in value, etc, etc, etc.

  • P!nk

lol @white devil. he’s kinda right

  • janb

I like it the way it is, looks cute.

  • Howbad

Nothing wrong with that hell brothers are not marrying sisters, anyway so why the hell can’t this cartoon find love in another race. It’s true life, We have to marry out of our race so why not in cartoon go Disney.
And too all them people that have issues with this but always scream hater when we sisters have something to say about Reggie Bush and his girl don’t be hating .

hey Kigali.. I think this is the part where u take over lol..

  • My2Cents

    @pm

I’m just pointing out the obvious. I bet if we did a national poll on this topic the majority of women would not consider THE TYPICAL black man Prince Charming. So, stop hating on Disney for getting it right by not making him black.

  • mickey

Why is it now have to be a light skin/drak skin issue.People please grow the hell up!!!!

  • chaka1

    I want a Brazilian prince!!!!

  • Kigali (Birth control until marriage)

    @My2Cents,

Speaking of national polls the black female would figure as the least likely to be marriage material. Thats why more black men are married than black females.

  • Kigali (Birth control until marriage)

    @Chaka1

You have to compete with Brazilian women and I doubt you have what it takes. Those chicks are very pretty.

It is really that hard to get attention from a black female? Alls I have to do is show her my prison tattoos and tell her how gangsta I am. LOL.

    I am a woman btw. :)

  • datflychic

That Prince CANNOT be lightskinned lol. What lightskin dude you know got hair like that? The name Naveen sounds like the prince from India…Anyways, they kept it gangsta by naming the princess Tiana…lol

“Kigali, girl, I didn’t know you had royalty in your family, lol.”

Lol….That’s not a female. I’m sure of it.

It would be nice to see more black couples in animation. . .On Charlie Brown, there was Franklin, but I think he was pretty much a loner. The cartoons I recall had the token black girl or boy, but rarely the two of them together.

Here’s the official link for the cartoon, by the way:

    disney.go.com/disneypictures/princessandthefrog/

I don’t know if I like the first song I heard too much. . .

Yeah, Kigali is a female (or so she says). She’s the antithesis of SMDH, lol.

Take everything she says with a grain of salt. :)

  • http://www.myspace.com/bridgeportdiva Nikki

Who cares. So many people are dating outside of their race that this shouldn’t even be an issue.

  • STARcasm

first off, why does the black chic have to have the one character line synonomous with basically having to screw any and everybody till she finally finds the right love and then he’s not even her ethnicity?

on the otherhand, most black men aren’t sh*t so perhaps thats why,

unless disney is trying to send a sublime to keep light skin alive…

    or like one poster said…conditioning…

  • Mrs. Philly

    Those chicks are very pretty

  • Swag-a-licious

I agree with Disney…everyone loves the Swirl…and they know white men loves some sistas…

And brothers do need to step their “Prince Charming” game up…and stop asking for head on the first date…this is real life not a rap song!!

  • me

Naveen is an Indian name. So yes, he would be Caucasian racially, but not White European. What does it matter anyway? The concept of it is obviously that he is supposed to be ‘exotic’ and from a far off land-hence his ambiguois ethnicity. Stop making issues when there isn’t one!

  • Kigali (Birth control until marriage)

    @me,

    Indians are Asian not Caucasian.

  • Swag-a-licious

Kigali knows that the black woman was THE FIRST WOMAN and is still desired by ALL MEN!!

All men do not like white, latina, or chinese women…EVERY MAN wants the black woman..

Why do you think white women where threatend by Michelle Obama’s arms…i mean her “ARMS” for God sake…imagine if showed her legs.. it would be a wrap!!

  • iLuvYelloBoyz

    Kigali,

You’re becoming more and more of a joke sans the punchline.

Over 60% of black males aren’t married. However, of the ones who are 90%+ are married to black women.

And just because a black man is dating/married to someone of another race doesn’t automatically say squat about his character. I see enough black males in IR carrying on with the silly drama.

  • BE

There are some black men out there worth celebrating as well as black women…and there are still plenty of black married couples.

  • Laetmc

    Allelujah !

  • Kigali (Birth control until marriage)

    @Swag,

The 2006 Census states clearly the black females arent desired by all men. If they were I assumed more of them would marry black females by as it stands, White men are more desired, then white women, then Asian women, then black men, then Asian men then black females. In fact there are more black men married to white women then there are black women married to men of any other race combined.

    Kigali-1

I dont care what color the prince is, but he looks like a jackass.

  • iLuvYelloBoyz

Since introducing the idea of this film, b/c of various protests, Disney has had to:

    1. Change the name of the princess. (I mean ppl actually stood outside and picketed over the original name.)

    2. Darken the prince’s features.

    3. Change the prince’s name.

    4. Change the prince’s ethnicity.

    5. Re-do storyboards depicting “love scenes”.

OYE! All this over a cartoon? I swear if all this energy went into sh1t that mattered, negroes wouldn’t be cemented at the bottom of the food chain.

That is not a white prince. When I first saw him, the first thing that came to my mind was hispanic or arab. Then I saw the name “Naveen” and I knew this wasn’t a white prince. Naveen is a common name in India. People, the world is not just black/white.

  • tamila

What he’s totally black! He’s just light skinned. He looks like Rick Fox.

  • iLuvYelloBoyz

    Kigali,

If it weren’t for “ethnic white/Latino” men I wouldn’t had a dating life, muchless a marriage.

And since it’s ESTABLISHED, that black males engage in the same behaviour regardless of their mate’s colour, race, or ethnicty. We seem to have located the problem.

You keep saying that black men are involved in more IR dating than black women. And while this is true IR relationships involving black males don’t have a great success rate. Also no one, and I mean NO ONE engages in IR marriages more than white men. Do you blame white women and apply your same ‘illogic’? Didn’t think so.

When a man is more comfortable blaming EVERYONE [the white man, black women, all women, immigrants, the system, the boule, etc] what we have on our hands is a clown incapable of fending for himself. So building and protecting a family is way too tall of an order. And it’s been this way for decades (if not centuries).

  • metoo

Stop the stupid complaining! Black people could (and should!)make more cartoons depicting ourselves how we wish to be depicted. Stop wanting others to do what we should do for ourselves.

I wasnt lucky enough to grow up in a very diverse part of the country, but when I did leave home and began to form opinions based on MY actual life and what I SAW, I was awestruck by how cool most of the black women I dated were and how lame it was that I had been denied women of all races, given my proximity to Canada. I have no problem with the prince but why her hair can’t be in an afro or some dreads or cornrows. Black people need to reach their children that even if they want to straignten out they hair that nothing wrong witht he natural look and that it could be fit for a princess as well. I’m sure they had a black person consulting on this during development.

    2. Most (I’m not gonna say all because there are racists) white people don’t sit at home plotting how to control black people.. it just doesn’t happen.
3.”because the society doesn’t recognize her true racial identity—is always either an imitation Black woman or an imitation White woman.” I am not an “imitation” anything. I am a proud, intelligent, biracial woman.
    4. I feel sorry for people like you. You”re so wrapped up in race and ethnicity that you’ll never see how beautiful the world really is.

  • lala

Well, usually a story about a princess has a fairytale ending, so it’s only natural that she not end up with a black prince. If she ended up with a black prince she’d end up taking over some of his child support payments. Having to support him and his kids. He’d try to have his baby’s mama move into the castle with them so he can sneak in and out of her room at night…it would be an awful ending….

    @EtherUtopia

While you touched on key points in your comment the only issue i take up with you is the one directed toward lighter skinned women. I myself am a darker skinned sistah but my mother is light, my aunts are light and my grandmother is light and they in no way shape or form ever been an imitation black woman or imitation white woman.

It sometimes amazes me how some people can be so PRO-BLACK that they begin to cause the same division in the black community that they blame white people for. I’m all for Pro blackness and being proud of ourselves cause we ALL know there is enough hatred of the black race out there, even on this blog site, but the time has come for black people to stop trying to figure out just how black each one of us are. I’m particularly proud when someone who isn’t (as your standards perceive) 100% black acknowledges themselves as only that because it lets me know that everyone wants to be like us.

Its time out for that seperation theory, we as black people (men and women) can no longer blame anybody else for our misfortunes, this is a new year and a new generation, if we are held back its because we choose to be held back. No white male or female has anything to do with whether i succeed or not because i am the master of my own future and sucess..

and to the people throwing the brothers under the bus on this post that’s so childish all you are doing is perpetuating the stereotypes that the media shows. if all you know is the black man with the numerous baby mothers, the bad credit and the low self esteem then maybe you need to change your surroundings, because that speaks volumes as to who you are and who you socialize with.

and to the people on here bashing the black women, get over it. for us to be so shiftless, ghetto, ignorant and rank (as you put it) why does the world try so bad to be like us? and those negative traits are not black women traits they are IGNORANT women traits and IGNORANT women come in all colors and shapes. I know nothing but strong, beautiful, black women because that’s what i surround myself with. You are who commune with! so if all you know is shiftless, lazy, ignorant black women then you must be shiftless, lazy and ignorant yourself. People who make blanket generalizations about a WHOLE group of people are nothing but the confirmation of their own stereotype….

and this is a STRONG, MARRIED, BEAUTIFUL SISTAH SIGNING OFF….:)

  • c from stl

I don’t think EtherUtopia is saying that light-skinned women consider themselves imitations or that other blacks do, I think what she is saying is that that’s what the original intent was in terms of conspiring against the strenght of our race. I’m a light-skinned woman and I come from a family of light-skinned women and I didn’t get offended. I just think that she was touching on all the things that were more than likely conspired dating centuries back. And @lilith82 I agree with what you said about us choosing to be held back and we do need to end the division….FOR REAL! It’s getting really old… ;)

    I don’t c anything wrong with this cartoon. It’s friggin’ 2009 already.

However, Disney is playing it SAFE because they know that a cartoon with a black prince and a white princess would never fly. It’s the same reason Halle, Kerry, Sanaa, and them could have an on-screen romance with white men, with no adverse effect on their careers.

Denzel and Will KNOW they damn well betta not!

Although there are some good brothers out there, many african american men are just dying to experience other race/culture (white) women. That is fine because we all know that one does not choose the person that you are attracted to, but african american women are going to have the same options. I predict that eventually the white male is going to let black men have the white woman, as white males expand their own circles. In the past it has not been fully socially acceptable for the white male to wife up other race women – this does not indicate that there is no attraction on the part of the white male for the african american woman, contrary. There will eventually be an overall power shift that places the black female next to the white male regarding the power structure; the white female really has no power other than that which is granted by white males in her circle. It is just a matter of time before white men realize how womderful black women are. In some circles, that is already beginning to happen!

I never thought of it in that sense, I always thought about it in the sense of the laws and rules of genetics, and that is black is the dominate gene, therefore it takes precedence over other genes. However, I do feel that mainstream America (govt) is really pushing for interracial relationships between blacks and whites, as a means to waterdown the black race or completely extinguish it completely through gradual mutational changes. It’s happening already.

I think you are getting way too defensive and serious. I’m not attacking you nor am I trying to say that all women who are submissive have abusive husbands. What I am saying is that in today’s society it is interesting how many women are very submissive but don’t get the same respect back from their husbands…I know alot of these type of couples. However, as I stated before the way you describe me or assume me to be is sooooo far away from how I really am. I don’t put my nose in other people’s relationships/marriages (because I am too involved in my own) nor do I focus in on petty details to try and catch a man up. I don’t go through my man’s phone and he doesn’t go through mine because we both trust each other. I think you missed my point because my original intent was to prove that there can be some men that DO NOT fall into the stereotypes, however your jumping to conclusions about me and strong defensiveness kind of makes me give you the side eye. You could have done like me and just came out and asked me if I fit those descriptions that you have already nicely put me in. That’s precisely why I ASKED you how you treat your wife. If you two are good, then great, that’s one more happy couple that does not fall into statistics….as said before, good day…

I think it’s important to address the hue issue because that’s the antithesis to black unity. Both light and dark members of the black races carry pain. We won’t heal from the psychologically inflicted wounds of skin color until we acknowledge it from both sides – and then confront and understand the TRUE dynamics of a global system of white minority domination.

I love all human beings. Does that mean I should be naive to what’s going on in the world – particularly in the affairs of indigenous peoples (black and brown nations)? Should I ignore the big picture?

Unlike most of you, I’m not impressed with white folks. I am unequivocally and unapologetically black. I love and embrace my blackness – and connection to Africa. Suffice to say I’ve come across some whites and Latinos who love and embrace their African heritage more than blacks.

American art is build off of the degredation of black people. America did not have its own culture until minstrels shows and things of that nature. Film, music, everything was based on this and has been every since. “Birth of a Nation” the first real American film celebrated our degredation and the crackers loved it. As a matter of fact the Gershwin Award that Pres Obama presented to Stevie Wonder is named for Charles Gershwin who is considered the first American composer. His first claim to fame was a song called “Swannee” that he preformed in blackface. Exploiting Black people is the core of American culture thats just what it is. It’s been working for all of these years and its not going to change. It is all about imitating or degrading us. They can’t come up with stuff on their own right.

Disney is only portraying what they see in the real world. Prince Charming is NOT considered a Black Man. I think they are sending the right message to these young girls. Stop settling for the deadbeat black guy and shoot for the better man who is probably of a different race.

I read c from stl statement and i think that it was great that SHE wasnt offended but just because you didnt offend one didnt mean you didnt offend another. the way your statements reads
    _____________________________________________________
“Notice the Black leader in America. He is usually influenced by the loving, ultra-supportive well meaning white or non-black wife—the White man’s mother, or by the high yellow wife who, because the society doesn’t recognize her true racial identity—is always either an imitation Black woman or an imitation White woman.”
_________________________________________________ you are speaking in a present tense hence you are speaking about the today’s “high yellow” woman not about the one from centuries past. and no where in my post did i say you shouldn’t be happy about being black or that there was something wrong with being Pro black, i said that there is a problem when you’re so Pro black that you begin to seperate blacks dependent upon how much “blackness” they have in them or how much they are so to speak diluted. I thought your post was very insightful i just didnt agree with the statement underlined above.

Bangladeshis, Pakistanis and Indians were considered “blacks” in the UK before the Stephen Lawrence incident. They are now considered Asians. • EtherUtopia

    Cont’d – Kola Boof…

    WHY IT MATTERS….

As the World Media is now trying to capitalize on our self-hatred and ENCOURAGE us that it’s “better” to breed….AWAY….from our origins and our place of “Knowing”……many Blacks, worldwide, are being Ultra-sensitive to the fact that we are being represented by a Mulatto/Mixed BUFFER RACE that doesn’t really reflect “our humanity” and especially not our “total experience”.

This is like going to the campus at SPELMAN and seeing a “Black Women’s Conference”—-only to notice that every single black woman on the panel is yellow, red and light brown (which is usually the case) with a Kinte cloth thrown over her shoulder. All my life in the U.S.—I have seen this—-where “dark skinned” males are allowed to represent BLACK PEOPLE, but not dark skinned women.

MOST Black American women are still darker than a paper bag and have African hair—-but in the Media, the vast majority of images of Black American women are represented by YELLOW or Light Brown women, very often Bi-racial and Mixed Race.

From Johnetta B. Cole to Julianne Mulveaux…to Halle Berry…..to news anchors like Carole Simpson….to the WIVES of most black men who “married black”……there is OVER-representation of Light Skinned women.

    And that is….racist.

As the reality of “colorism” continues to be an emerging TOPIC/ISSUE and as those who have traditionally suffered the most from it—dark skinned people (“authentic” blacks)—their is a groundswell of rage and accumulated hurts, injustices that is forming an ANALYSIS of just….who IS us…..and who is not.

Complicating this analysis is the fact that some mixed people, ie. Malcolm X (my hero), Barack Obama and Julianne Mulveaux (I love her!)…..are BLACKER than many “authentic” black folks….ie. Clarence Thomas, Wesley Snipes and Montel Williams.

Race and Color…..DO MATTER….because it’s been proven for a thousand years now that once people become mixed with White Blood—they wish to maintain that status and usually turn against the black origins, forced to shun it in order to keep their kids from “staining” the new skin. And as well….MANY dark black Africans are also reluctant to be bastardized by the blood of the invaders.

The fact is the vast majority of black people are married to or dating other black people. It’s just a very tiny percent of black people married to or dating outside their race. The animation should have depict the majority.

Damn, every one is so emotionally involved in this dicussion concerning Tiana and her Prince, lol. Since Black people feel this cartoon fairy tale doesn’t represent properly then learn how to draw, animation, and a some computer graphics and creat your own cartoon. Me personally I wouldn’t create a story about a fairy tale, because fairy tales don’t exist it’s a fantasy. I’d create a cartoon that would be a fusion of fantasy yet an element of reality thrown in. I HAVE BEEN SUPPORTING BLACK AMERICAN WOMEN FROM THE BEGINNING OF THIS POST.

Black on black love is such a beautiful thing and it should be depicted as such.

    —————————————————-

    true that.

i’ll bet you tyler perry’s allllllll over it, anyways.

he’s probably got an animated fairy tale in the works as we speak.

so…later for disney. they haven’t been really doing it for me since ‘lady & the tramp’ anyway.

so chill black people, the trickle down of ‘CHANGE’ cometh. be patient.

    lol.

You feel where I’m coming from. I saw that early on. I knew you were either light or dark. We relate. The way I see it is lighter women and darker women relate alot because no matter what people are going to have preconcieved notions about us and judge us stirctly based on skin tone on top of the ones that are placed on all black people or all women for that matter.

    Ain’t nothing wrong with that.

Tatiana is a name of Slavic/Romanian origin; however, it’s popular in many countries, including Latin countries: Romania, Russian, Italy, South America, etc…

She could be Afro-Hispanic/Latino, Afro-french, North African from a former french/spanish territory, Southeast Asian-French/Italian, Black/Mixed Romanian, Indo-Aryan-Romanian, Dark skinned Gypsy/Roma, Black Russian, Eritrean, Somalian…a number of things. Maybe she’s from one of the former French territories between East Africa and West Indian, like Reunion.

Naveen is a name of of Indian origin, but it’s popular across the Desi diaspora. He could be Arab (black or white arab) Berber, Persian, Pakistani, Sri Lankan, Northeast African, Indian, Indo-Aryan, South Asian, Asian, Muslim…a number of things.

People want to call her black because of her dark skin. Why be so simple? Human bloodlines, culture and society is much more intricate than what these simplistic social race labels indicate. And love is more powerful than any boundary.

Get over race people. All of our bloodlines, no matter what we look like, are inter linked…

People stop complaining…Disney is trying to appeal to everyone and it works for me because there has never been a black princess before. And I am looking for my white..latino..asian or black prince so the concept works for me. I also concur with chloe about showing love can come from any person… this is a far cry from the racist past of disney so let’s just enjoy.

  • Lee from shaolin

Wasn’t the late Walt Disney a racist?

  • Dear God

    @Lee.

They say we was racist and homophobic, but hey we didn’t know that guy.

And Prince Naveen looks East Indian to me, but maybe I’m just looking to much into it.

  • Darkesthourglass

    *princess’*

  • o

Naveen respresents the east indian culture like the actor Naveen Andrews of “Lost” fame.

  • The Third Eye

    @ chloe

The race of the prince does matter Chloe, especially since little black girls will be seeing this film like you’ve already mentioned. So a black prince can’t give the love, affection, and respect this little princess deserves? What the hell is that about. It’s disrepectful!

Have you seen any white or non white disney princess involved in some interacial relationship or courtship? Disney is definitely trying to take a swing. I know it’s 2009 and racism shouldn’t be so big of an issue but it is.

I’m so sick of people being brainwashed that it’s gone because we have a black president.

And on that note it was only a land slide on the electoral college portion of the election. When it came to popular vote Obama and McCain were close! So NOT ALL white people were with the change and off race!!

    @Read Carefully

Thank you for your very thoughtful posts (and EtherUtopia’s posts were very informative as well — thank you). Although some may pass over it because of its length, it was well worth the read — and I liked your citation of historical examples.

“) While the stereotype is that most famous black men date or marry white women, this has actually gone both ways historically. Doroth Dandridge, Josephine Baker, Lena Horne, Diahann Carroll, all famous black female stars from the 1940s through the 1970s, dated or married White men. There were many more, just naming some of the big names. So it seemed as though famous blacks in general felt the need to marry or date across color lines. This is never mentioned in most discussions though, it is made to seem as though only black men did this, in fact…”

Very true — In fact, I had a conversation with my mother over the holidays after the death of Eartha Kitt (who also had relationships with white men), and she gave me a list of black actresses, such as the women you named, who were linked with non-black men. It was eye-opening, to say the least.

“It is unfair to generalize negatively about black men as a whole, just as any self-respecting black woman would get upset hearing a black man making negative generalizations about black women. I am against the negative attacks on BOTH sides, we should not be putting each other down. If black America is to progress, what is needed are strong black families based on two parent homes.”

    Another good and astute point.

Allow me to apologize for the black women who sought to only spite you but for everyone that will, there is one who won’t.

I too have dated black men with baggage and if i were to roll it over to the proceeding relationship, I would never have one. Whenever you have a preconceived notion in this case, you metaphysically get what you expect.

What you should do is set youreself some standards and take no shorts. I support my mate in every way and I am loyal and I respect him and let him be him. I don’t ever ask him for anything unless it takes four hands and it’s too many diseases in the world to be infected with and stupid to take the risk knowing I have safety right at home.

On the otherhand, I feel the same way as you do about Black men because of the multiple race of women I know who constantly complain about you and I have experience dating a many confused brothers no matter how cool I was to them. I won’t knock your opinion, just want to share with you a resolution.

  • Mississippi librarian

    @Illuminate Truth

That is so true. I read with interest the post from the young man who spoke about the ‘baggage’ that Black Women bring. In truth, the Black woman has not had the luxury of having someone to slay her dragons, open her doors, and rescue her. The position of Blacks in society dictated that she take an active role in providing for her family, keeping them safe, and serving as a buffer between the Black male and a very hostile world. In that sense, we owe our very existence to the strong Black woman, however the very thing that has saved us and allowed us to flourish as a race(an independent Black Woman) has also become something that Black men find intimidating. We are strong because we have had to be. No one pays attention when we cry, our tears do not have the same effect as the white womans – when she cries everybody stops what they are doing to find out what is wrong and how they can help. Nobody, sadly not often even the Black male, does that for us – they don’t care why we are crying. We are left to solve our own problems by any means necessary. And that, my friend, will make you strong.

Based on most of these statements, I’m assuming written by black people, it’s quite clear, many black people just don’t get it!

You have almost zero concept of what importance it is to protect your racial identity and fall into the typical programming thoughts like “oh, color dosen’t matter” ect…

You will find very, very few races other than dumb black people who say this stuff let alone actually believe it. Now some will say this crap, but behind doors it’s a totally different story. Blacks seem to be the only ones still falling for this type of okey doak…

I mean if this stuff was so true, why don’t you have a Black prince with a white girl? I mean lets just be honest for a change. Do you really think the people that handle this stuff would be so “progressive” when it comes to the imagery their children are subject to? Answer: NOT

Yet you still got good ole golly jeez negros out here still “wishing upon a star”…

    @ budluv:
Your comment just proves the other posters’ comments about people losing their identity and consciousness. I don’t know if you are Brazilian. A dark skin Brazilian? Don’t you mean Black Brazilian or Afro South American? What is the aversion of saying Black Brazilian or Afro-Brazilian? That comment shows why so many of Brazil’s poor are black. Brainwashing. Yes, Brazil is very mixed, but that obviously hasn’t improved how many view themselves or how they are living.

And never once in my post was I talking about how racism is over… I was just saying how I’m happy that they finally made a black princess and I could care less if the prince was black.. the focus is not on the prince. You need to calm down and brush the chip off of your shoulder and stop looking for racism all the time.. trust me that is no way to live and you will carry a burden with you everywhere!

They know exactly what they were doing. Just coudn’t stand TWO happy black folks together.

    ———————-
@Bull – To the untrained mind, this is just a harmless animated film for children. Black folks have a right to express their displeasure in Disney’s selection of the lead couple. It is sending a message. I don’t care if the storyline includes mulattoes in Louisiana.

When a people don’t have a cultural or spiritual identity, they will follow the dictates of the melanin-recessive beings who control propaganda and the media.

It is time for us to separate from the black devils among us who want to “willingly” mix with the albino caveman seed. Let them go. There is much that they do not know to their detriment.

Those who recognize that they are of royal blood, and are the motherseed from the garden of Ethiopia (Ether Utopia), the bloodberry would NEVER be deceived into genocide.

I think it’s really cool that the new disney princess is black. I think that black women have a problem with accepting themselves as beautiful, so they tend to fight for black men too, when there is no need to. They are men, they don’t need defending.

This is huge for little black girls and this is something they need for their self esteem…so let them have their moment. Everybody knows in these fairytales it’s all about what the GIRL wants…the prince is just an accessory in the fairy tale.

    EtherUtopia,

    You are too funny!

  • Pulersvartedamer Dagenlang

You Americans need to stop using the word race when differentiating between groups of the human population. There is a word for people who believe in such segregation and that is racists. Classifying people by race is scientifically outdated long ago and is seen as backward in Western Europe where such beliefs are generally connected to nazism.

This is a great initiative by Disney. There are few Indians to be seen in Western media although their numbers in the West are significant. Asian males are usually projected as submissive, non-sexual beings in popular culture while black American males are usually projected as the complete opposite. When what you Americans call an interracial couple is projected in media it is usually either a black male with a white female or a white male with an Eastern-Asian female. With Barack Obama elected president of the nation in the driving seat of the Western civilization it is time to change such stereotypes and end the segregation of fictional ‘human races’.

  • chichi

The issue isn’t about segregation but displaying black love. It’s like saying that there will never be a black prince and that he is not good enough for a black princess. Done the line every other ethnicity was represented by their counterparts, but not the black princess, why is that?

  • Pulersvartedamer Dagenlang

I think a lot of people are mistaken about the word racism.
Racism and racial discrimination are not synonyms.
Racism is merely a belief that humans can be divided into racial categories and racial discrimination is the belief that the racial categories you believe humans can be put into have specific racial traits that differ in value.
Many of the people here seem to be racist in the true definition of the word.
