R. Kelly’s Double Up tour is heading to the Forum in Los Angeles Friday and there will be a little surprise there for chester and his molesting ways. The “Protest Against Pedophiles” will take a stand on Friday activists are surprised that the Forum, which is owned by a church would allow R. Kelly’s tour to make its rounds there:
“How can the church allow R. Kelly to perform on Friday night, have service on Sunday morning and believe all is well? The message the church is sending to young children is that money is more important than taking a stand in support of victims who have been victimized by R. Kelly and other child molesters.”

If you look at it that way, then no one would perform in the Forum. If it’s not child molestation, then it’s something else.
All have sinned. PERIOD. I applaud their protest, because his case should have been heard long ago. But if you’re going to say that the church should ban him because he’s a child molester, then what about artists who are drug users, or who overeat (yes, it’s called gluttony and it’s a sin too). What about artists who lie? Who steal? Where’s the line? God does not differentiate in the sin. Sin is sin – period. So if you feel that this church should question the moral integrity of anyone that wants to use the facility, then the church should just sell the Forum altogether because no one is worthy – not even them (the church itself)!

And yes, according to those guidelines, at least in my state (TEXAS–and I’m sure in his state also) he RAPED her even if the sex was consensual…which it was. And yes I did see the nasty videotape. The tape is evidence that he has been having sex with that young girl for a long time. People dont do weird things like urinate on people the first time they have sex. In the eyes of the law, teenagers are minors, and adults who have sex with them are considered rapists. My opinion about this maybe shaded cause I was a victim of molestation as a child, but I think no child or teen should have sex-that should be for when they are legally adults. That’s my view. R. No matter how “fast” that 14 year old was (and obviously she was not a virgin and had seen plenty), he was the adult and should never have been in that position. Adults practice restraint. But, more than that, this man has definite issues when it comes to young girls, a lot like Michael Jackson and young boys. Pedophilia is an illness that no amount of excuses can defend. Had it been one of my daughters, my sons would have dealt with him long before now.

To those of you that say she consented so it wasn’t rape at all, in the eyes of the law, at 14, although she was a teenager, you are considered a child until you are of legal age (18/21). A child cannot consent to a sex act or even be held liable in contract law. You cannot have a legally binding agreement (consensual) with a minor.

I didn’t say anything about R Kelly going to church to repent. Nor did I say that he wasn’t wrong and shouldn’t be punished. That’s ‘bull*****’ (as you so eloquently put it) that YOU came up with – not me.
I agree with you 100%. AS I SAID IN MY POST, this case should have been heard a long time ago. Looks to me like his lawyer is trying to let the clock run out (I don’t know what the statute of limitation is on this case, but I’m sure the clock is ticking).
MY POINT WAS, if you’re going to ban R. Kelly from performing in the Forum (which has nothing to do with going to church), then you have to ban all secular artists from performing there. Hence, NO secular acts should perform at the Forum.
My issue is that this group is saying that the church should ban him because he’s a pedophile. They have an issue with pedophilia – as most people do and should. But what if the church also banned an artist who was openly gay? Would this group (Protest Against Pedophiles) back the church on that or would they say that the church is being judgemental and promoting homophobia? If they banned an artist because he promotes the use of marijuana and alcohol and lesbian sex (which is what a lot of rap artists endorse), would this group agree with the church or would the church be accused of being out of touch with today’s youth and society in general?
Again, I’m not defending R. Kelly. Just saying, don’t make it seem like the church is ’supporting’ R. Kelly. Why is it that the man still has enough of an audience to even fill the Forum? Why not call the ticket holders out? No one is calling out the owners of all the other venues he’s performed in. No one, regardless of your religious inclination, should support pedophilia. So, are we gonna protest and boycott all these big companies who opened their arenas to him?

I refuse to watch the tape… The blame ultimately rests w/R. Kelly in my opinion. This isn’t the first minor he’s been involved with. People who’ve seen the tape (people I know who’ve seen it) say that it doesn’t appear to be the first time he’s had sex w/the girl. A teenager is a child!!! Ask your parents. You keep talking about high school like that is the turning point. The law says 18 or 21. Don’t think, unless they are challenged, that someone 18 or 21 would still be in high school (although some 18 year olds are still in high school for a host of reasons, they are the exception). Anyway, at this point I don’t blame R. Kelly. I am in no way letting Kelly off the hook, but if the church’s (Faithful Central) pastor, who also owns the Forum, really wanted to practice what he preaches, he would not accept R. Kelly or any other secular acts to perform there. It’s one thing for a sinner to come into the church and listen to the word, and another to allow him/her to come and spew his/her own sinister thoughts and acts, even if the people who attend the concert are different from those of the church. This is obviously about the money. I live in LA and since The Staple’s Center (a newer arena, which is home to the Lakers and Clippers) has been open, The Forum has been losing its game/concert revenue to it. This is a great way (and I don’t mean that very positively) for the pastor to make more profits for himself, ahem, I mean the church.
Well, I’ve been to Faithful Central a few times, and it’s nothing to brag about, unless you enjoy having your Sunday service in crowded arena seating. I prefer a smaller, more personal setting, where the pastor actually knows my name because he knows me, not my signature on my check.

To add to some of the comments that a few sistas posted earlier, when you have been raped, molested, abused and/or taken advantage as a child, a story like this can strike a chord. There is a reason why the law protects grown men and women from having sex with children. A child’s mind and body are not developed enough to deal with the consequences and responsibilities that go along with sex and sexual behavior. It is our responsibility as adults to protect children not to violate them.
I had men flirt with me and hit on me when I was as young as 8. I had men who behaved inappropriately with me and around me as early as age 6. What people may not realize is that, even though something inappropriate (and unlawful) takes place in your life when you are so young, you never forget it. It’s not to say that it dances through your head on a daily basis, but it has a tendency to rear its head at the most inconvenient times. It is both painful and embarr*****ing and being a victim of abuse can hinder your personal relationship when you reach adulthood. It can also affect your sexual preference. (I’ve known several women who were molested for years as children who never want a man to touch them again. It is so sad.)

Put your sexuality in its proper context and don’t devote all 24 hours in a given day to chasing women and what is covered by our undergarments. People can disagree, but I think the Black male (mis)treatment of Black women is the reason why there are fewer Black families now than ever and it is the reason why Black women (in a lot of cases) look elsewhere for companionship. When you seek a companion, you seek comfort. How are you comfortable with someone (especially a complete stranger) constantly lusting after you without respecting you? When enough of the same race or cl***** of men mistreat you, at some point, you don’t want any of them saying anything to you, especially when each bad experience seems to chip away at you.
What I’m trying to say is Black people need to stop being so vulgar when it comes to sex and sexuality. White people urinate and defacate on each other, but who of sound mind would ever think of such a thing? If you have to deviate that far to the left in order to seek sexual satisfaction/gratification, what you really need is psychiatric counseling. Black people used to lead, now negroes want to follow what they see the white man do because they think that it’s ok now that they have a few dollars. The double standard is alive and well, and Black men ought to recognize and acknowledge that they are an endangered species.

But, if you read a little more, I did qualify it earlier saying I was generalizing pedophilia, and in saying that I say I do believe MJ is guilty as hell, although him and R. Kelley are two sides of the same coin b/c I see those girls as kids as well.

Alot of the posting as had Some Validity and Some have been on-point but the LAW isn’t absolute in anyway. A Minor by law can be an infant, a child and a teenager and when it comes to mental capabilities, behavior and physical development a MINOR the age of 14-18 years of age is considered a teenager ( Not a Child )

The issue here is not whether we like R.kellys music or not. The issue is not whether or not the young girl wanted to have sex with him or not. The issue is that an older man had sex with a young girl who was not 18 yet. That is statutory rape. That’s the issue, and nothing else. The law against statutory rape is there for a reason. Yes, the young girls may want this, and they may be hoes, but when they are younger than 18, they are considered minors. Adults 18 years of older often prey on younger girls because younger girls are usually flattered by that, and are definitely less mature. It happens all of the time, and it is sick and wrong, and so we have this law. The problem that we encounter is when we have people, like some have on this board talking about anything besides the fact that what he did was wrong and that he should be punished. To state that “she knew what she was doing, or she wanted it, or that other men have commited the same crime” is not only pointless, but it serves to sugar-coat an obvious crime, and it is really ignorant.
