Artists today are just taking things that have been done before and they are reinventing, reinterpreting or repackaging it for a younger, less-informed audience. It’s ridiculous to accuse somebody of jackin’ because, being an artist myself, I am well aware somebody else has already done it and it’s nothing new. That’s just the nature of the beast. Build a bridge and get over it. Even Prince mentioned this not long ago when asked his opinion about the current crop of artists. But I think Bee knows she’s not going to be hitting the stage this hard her entire life, so she’s putting in as much as she can to build up her wealth and get out of the game before she gets old. She said that herself so I’m not making it up. But honestly I like the hype, the technotronics, the dance sequences – the whole package and even though I hesitate to say it because it’s going to make people balk but if I had to choose between seeing a Beyonce or an Erykah Badu show, I might opt for the former. Of course Beyonce can’t touch Mariah’s vocal range, not even Whitney can. But that has nothing to do with being a better singer. It depends somewhat on your range, but the quality, tone, and control you have in your voice also qualifies. We took a poll in one of my musicl schools about 4 months ago, and we had to number the greatest singers (on the sheet) from Best to not so best with 1 being the best. It had, Whitney, Celine Dion, Mariah, Beyonce, Christina A., and Aretha (I think that was it). The list has nothing to do with the greatest singers ever, it’s just random singers. This was show it turned out by average:

I see your point. However, I disagree on some parts. I really do think Beyonce has matured more into a woman. Her whole image now is way more mature than it was back in 2003. I know it seems that songs like Single Ladies are “immature” but I just figure that she wants to have fun songs. And clealry, people love it. I see how you feel that she’s not really growing, but I feel that she has grown in some areas. Listening to the I Am.. side on her CD, I can definitely say that she has matured. Comparing an award and a perfomance is like apples and oranges.

Beyonce’s status isn’t gonna go up for preforming for the first black president. It’s great that she did that, but it’s not making a career move. It’s more like a benefit due to her sucessful career.
