Soooo how is it Black people are expected to “move On” after slavery while we still have these nostalgic azz places that want to pay tribute to the Confederacy???
Texas County Proclaims April Confederate History And Heritage Month
According to NY Daily News reports:
A county in the southeastern corner of Texas proclaimed April, the month the Civil War broke out, as Confederate History and Heritage month — and many residents aren’t too pleased.
“I don’t think this will be anything but to raise animosity and a lack of friendship among races,” resident Ralph Hawkins told KEYE-TV.
Commissions for Orange County, which borders Louisiana, unanimously approved the proclamation on Monday, according to local media reports.
This will be at least the fifth year the county made this decision, County Judge Carl Thibodeaux said.
The proclamation reads, in part, “It is important for all citizens of Orange County to reflect upon our past and to respect the devotion of her Confederate leaders, soldiers and citizens to the cause of Southern liberty.”
But Hawkins wants people to remember that “there were more than just soldiers that died. There were slaves that died.”
The Orange County branch for the Sons of Confederate Veterans has made the request each year. The group is also planning to build a memorial to Confederate soldiers on the county’s Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, reported KEYE-TV.
A local resident started a petition on Change.org to stop construction or — at the very least — move it off the street honoring the late civil rights leader.
“This is an ALL out racist attack and a slap in the face to EVERY African Americans that reside in the County of Orange Texas!” the petition reads.
SMH. Sorry, enjoy your racist history month but you’re not gonna erect that BS on a street dedicated to the memory of one of America’s greatest Civil Rights leaders.
