Wesley Snipes, who will stand before a jury that may convict him and send him to prison for 16 years for tax fraud blames his accountants for that situation and talks about racism on the set of Blade Trinity with Entertainment Weekly:
”They positioned it like, ‘He’s irresponsible, dangerous, guilty — this is why he’s in Africa. All these things, they play into our stereotypes. People think I’m Nino Brown [his gangster character from 1991's New Jack City] or Blade. They think I’m an evil dude. The accountants say you’re entitled to a refund because of these particular rules and regulations. So you say all right…. If someone tells me I’m entitled to a refund, I’ll go for the refund! I never got a dime. I didn’t defraud the government by taking money that was not mine. We never got it!”
“I was the new ho on the block. I found it fascinating to hear what people said about this project and how easy it was for people to jump on the ‘Wesley’s the bad guy’ bandwagon. That’s where I think the systematic racism comes in. We’re conditioned in this country to believe that if there’s a problem, the black man is usually the culprit. Avi Arad has *60* producing credits, including all the X-Men movies. Toby Emmerich has 55 credits. Hell, Wes himself was one of the producers of the movie, and he has 11 producing credits of his own. And the director has been hired to direct the X-Men spinoff, so *somebody* liked his work.

Oh, and @ Silversurfer, it’s a complete myth that there’s no law requiring you to pay taxes. IRS Code is law, and 26 U.S.C. § 1 reads “There is hereby imposed on the taxable income of every individual… who is not a married individual a tax determined in accordance with the following table.”
That’s it in black and white. There’s the law.

Why? Wesley called the producers of the film “inexperienced” and I pointed out that a) they have more experience than 90% of the people in the business, and that b) Wesley – credited as a producer on the film – also has more than 10 producing credits on his resume. Read books by accomplished black men such as Richard Wright, Ralph Ellison, and Langston Hughes; note how contemporary black men such as Sen. Barack Obama conduct themselves with eloqunce and poise; and mirror the behavior of men who respect themselves and others, including women.
