that takes hip-hop culture to another significant level of
accomplishment.Sony Entertainment and Damon Dash produced the “Hip-Hop Monologues:
Inside the Life and Mind of Jim Jones.” It’s a fantastic show that
portrays the evolution of hip-hop through the life of Jim Jones.I have to say: Damon Dash is a hip-hop genius who should never be……underestimated. I have watched Dame’s growth, development and
entrepreneurship over the years, not from a distance, but through
first hand observation. He was one of the creative forces behind
Roc-A-Fella Records, the architect of Rocawear Fashions, he made
significant, culturally relevant movies with Dash Films and has made
other creative cultural statements through Dash Enterprises. And
another great note… He spent a small fortune developing a major
talent and women’s brand through supporting his wife to the hilt !!In our early days, Lyor Cohen and I used to shout at Damon. And Damon
would shout back. Then we would hug and go handle our business That
was our way of communicating. Eventually, Lyor got older and I did
more yoga and we both stopped shouting so much . Dame eventually made
a few bad choices and a few things went sour. We know haters love a
man who’s been hot to catch a lil cold. Hate spreads. But like Tony
Montana said “Two Quaaludes ….. And they gonna love him again.”So haters, it really doesn’t matter about your blogs from the
sidelines. Dame’s gonna help heat the economy again!! But if he
got hit by a truck today remember this: Dame’s a giver by nature.
That’s why he has already received so much. He was the business
leader, the Architect, and one of the creative forces that built
Roc-A-Fella Records into an empire. I remember that it was Damon who
came to my office, after we signed Jay-Z to be on The Nutty Professor
soundtrack, with a bag of cash ready to put his money where his mouth
was. :-). But the record “Ain’t No Nigga…” didn’t need his cash
(hit from The Nutty Professor). It was a masterpiece and so was his
artist. Jay-Z: the greatest rapper of all time. I saw countless
displays of vision and faith all the way up to and beyond his struggle
to convince everyone, when no one else believed him, of the artistry
and the genius of Kanye West.In order to succeed in this business you need to have both a business
sense and great creative instincts (The latter is intuitive and
cannot be learned). Damon has, once again, proven that he is a great
innovator with amazing vision.
So now he is helping Jim Jones in a powerful manner that combines
their collective experiences around being born and raised in Harlem by
taking the culture to the 37th Street Theater, off-Broadway in New
York City, with a live hip-hop band, dance, multimedia and the
dynamics of theatrical stage presentations focusing on the struggles
of life through the lens of hip-hop. I have two pieces of advice: 1)
respect Dame’s gangster 2) go see the play immediately.

I believe some of what the INSIDER is saying. Jay is an artist. I believe Dame was the driving force behind Jay’s career. I believe Dame is good at developing new artist. I do believe he made a bad decision with Cameron and Jim Jones but that’s another story.
I believe Jay sucked at being a CEO. (Remembering the gripe that LL and Nas had with Jay while Jay was the CEO). I believe he could not perform the task of the position because he was too worried about his own career; when in-fact he was supposed to be retired.
Not only was he to involve with his own career, he didn’t have the business since that Dame HAS. As the INSIDER stated Jay was performing while Dame was in the trenches. Dame was getting the deal signed while Jay performed at sold-out concerts.
While it lasted it was a marriage of minds made in heaven. I believe Jay just wasn’t ready to extend the ROC label to Cam and Jim and that’s where the beef began. I believe Jay thought Dame was getting beside himself and maybe Dame thought he had every right to do whatever he wanted to do. In the end the marriage of minds failed. On another note… Don’t agree that Cameron stole Jay’s shine. Cam has NO TALENT and nor does Jim Jones or any of them corner bums/ 50 rock hustlers. And it’s sickening that those boys with no talent have records deals and are given a chance to make complete fools of themselves and there’s real un-touched un-cut raw talent out here just struggling and waiting to be heard. Like I said…Jayz was an artist! Damon Dash was his mentor and manager. No one liked Jayz as a rapper, they all thought he was ugly and awkward and didnt understand his style.Dame fought for that dude to be where he is. When no one would sign Jayz is was DAMONS idea to start a lable call Rocafella and sign Jayz to it! He cut Jayz in as a owner cause he was his friend and to have equity in the brand… FACT!

Cam’ron was one of the most respected emcees in NY in the mid 90s…I would NEVER call Cam’ron wack. Im nit the biggest Cam’ron fan, but he has an underground legacy and was cosinged by some of the greats. Camrons image and persona became bigger than he was and eventually destroyed him. But most people they hate on camron and his style just dont understand him. But camron is very talented…Its just when he went pop and changed his style it helped him and hurt him at the same time.
Cam’ron is a good emcee. He wrote all lil kims raps early in her career and was a ghostwriter for a lot of people. (little do people know) Thats WHY he stayed as long as he did. The industry knows camrons resume and things hes done. He was BIGGIES artist. BIG co signed him, BIG L. ECT Camron has a great history. JUST LIKE JAYZ DID IN NY! And when cam came to the roc and took some of his shine im teling you jayz couldnt take it. Not to mention becoming president. Jayz felt himself losing control cause he wasnt really hot then and took everything from dame. It was shiesty and it was very LOW od Jayz to do that. And whats sad is he trys to make excuses for it like camron and dame is crazy for dissing him and wrong when they just telling the truth!

Okay, the question is, if Dame was such an excellent businessman, why isn’t he making those same type of power moves now? And Jay-Z had to be a little more than just an artist, judging from the business moves he had made since Jay and Dame parted ways. Jay had to make the transition from artist to businessman, Dame just had to keep on being a businessman, so it would seem that Dame had a head start, right? I do not agree that Jay made the best creative moves while being the pres at Def Jam, but I think when you compare what he has done financially(40/40 clubs, part ownership of the Nets, sale of rocawear, Live nation deal, etc)to what Dame has done, Jay seems to have done pretty well for himself.
