Will Smith’s ‘I am Legend’ broke the box office record for the biggest opening in December by taking in over $76 million over the weekend. Will’s Overbook Entertainment was behind the production.

This just means even more stacks for his next film.

  • http://www.stacirobinson.com Congrats to OVERBROOK

    Congrats!

  • http://www.stacirobinson.com Congrats to OVERBROOK

overbrook entertainment is moving on up.

    congrats.

  • http://www.stacirobinson.com 76 million!

    dayum

  • krissy

i saw this movie over the weekend and it was actually very good, and will looks good in it!

  • nahnah

    who cares.

  • flawda

They said the studio was expecting it to make 40 mil but i guess he surpassed it. Have’nt seen it yet but i will sometime this week.

  • Who?

    saw it hated it….

  • real deal

WILLARD SMITH IS OBVIOUSLY A CERTIFIED LEGEND.

    CONGRATS WILL!

  • http://www.jacksondakota.com Mickit

yea, yea we already knew this. Legend. . . one the greatest black actors. . . . yada yada yada.

  • nahnah

Ok, so my boyfriend dragged me to go see that crap, and boy was I pissed to see Hollywood turning another good book into a bad movie.

Will smith is not a strong actor, just highly overrated. The worst part is I can still see his ‘Fresh Prince’ persona in the movie, and just about every other movie he’s done.

All in all, that movie sucked major big sweaty balls.

  • nahnah

Oh yeah, and that damn dog got on my damn nerves.

  • N-Qui-Sa-Tive

All I can say is congrats! They can’t say sh!t about him b/c he have people coming to the theater. (ahem…..golden compass…etc) He is money!

  • ATX QUEEN

How can you NOT love the Fresh Prince?

  • imrightdammit

He’s corny, but props on making the cash. I’m all for a brotha getting paid legally!

  • n_satiable

Congratulations, Will! And forget the haters who are trash-talking — their tickets are paid for now, so who cares what they say.

As far as Will’s acting ability goes — don’t even get me started. Anybody who say “The Pursuit of Happyness” with any amount of objectivity (instead of just slamming) has got to admit that Will is the real deal. You cannot tell me that you didn’t cry during that bathroom scene! If you don’t like him or his movies, don’t go see any more! I don’t like liver — so I don’t eat it. Maybe the haters should try to follow that example…

As long as he doesn’t get any closer to Tom Cruise’s crazy, couch-jumping ass, he’ll be fine.

  • Jaycee

I heard the movie was not good, but Will has made some good movies. I liked Enemy of the State, Pursuit of Happyness, and Hitch.

I agree that you see some “Fresh Prince” in his performances; however, this is not unique to him. I see Tom Hank’s Bosom Buddies character in his roles. Brad Pitt plays the same character in all of his roles too.

    Congrats to Will.

  • cat4everrr

his acting in this film is superb. the problem has to do with the way the ending was written. it left the audience feeling wanting. 90% of the movie is good and will’s acting is engaging but i have to say whoever wrote that ending should be fired. apart from the ending if you like suspense movies it this movie will be a real treat. i had to keep getting up to go to the bathroom because the suspense kept me on edge

  • Avengerunlimited

The movie was too damn short. Will was pretty good, but Akiva’s script was weak and that ending–were they pandering to the religious nuts out there? maybe hoping for extra box office traffic…

  • cat4everrr

what’s up with the title of this thread? what ho?

  • ceecee

i am very happy for will. haven’t seen the movie yet, but plan to do so.

  • nahnah

Will Smith is average and over-rated.

Like most Hollywood actors, he lacks range. But I love me some Fresh Prince of Bel Air :-)

  • Murphys Law

Will is the man but he needs to remember where he came from. In this world don’t fool yourself it is all about the money and he brings it in. I agree with n_satiable. He needs to stay away from Tom Cruise.

Lest we forget, Tom was the money maker and where did he end up- jumping off couches and wearing doughboy haircuts.

  • cat4everrr

i would still recommend the movie but be prepared to leave feeling wtf

  • Murphys Law

I believe he is a scientologist. Cruise did not have anything to do with him until he started to make bank. I saw Legend it was very good and he can act.

One more thing. I hope he has a pre-nup because all good things come to an end. He can ask his buddy Tom.

  • Dalia

Way to go, Will! This is a positive black man doing positive things.

Are you listening Bishop Don Juan? You ignorant bastard.

  • E$

76!??! wow – WIll does his thing on the acting, it’s just a horrible film

  • ATX QUEEN

CHEF said “NIGG U BLACK ACT LIKE IT”

WTF?????????????? If acting black is talking like your ignorant ass, then I hope Will stays white forever!

  • Dalia

    Deacon Don Jose Ruiz:

Your “uncle” is a fool….and so are you if you claim him.

  • Dalia

    Chef:

The black herd mentality is so over. Wake up and have an original thought of your own. Stop thinking that if a person is black, he or she has to act, think, or vote a certain way.

You’re even more ignorant than Bishop Don Juan.

  • Give Angela Bassett an Oscar!

    i HATED hitch!!!!!

  • http://site.gravatar.com/ ReBeL

I enjoyed the movie. Couldve been better but I’ve seen WORST! Will was Great tho!

  • nahnah

    i HATED hitch!!!!!

    ________________

    Yeah, it sucked madd butt.

  • spontaneous

this movie was totally overrated! My boyfriend is a big movie fan and even he was telling his friends not to waste their money. The story could’ve been told in 30 minutes. The only good part was seeing will working out with his shirt off! Congrats on the big #’s it just goes to show what people expect when he comes out with a movie.

  • playlist

Would Will have had a successful return in his rap career if he came out with Big Willie when Kanye dropped College Drop Out??? Both of them represent the positive…

  • Just a thought….

    Congrats to Will Smith.

In fact, congrats to all the “real” rappers-turned-actors. Everybody that drops or dropped rhymes and then gets in front of the camera and drops lines should not do it or is meant to be successful at it or is good at it.

So congrats to him, Ice-T, Queen Latifah, and even Mos (who was an actor first), and even Tupac (if he had lived).

    I’m not hating.

  • anon

Will Smith grosses more money for his movies than any single actor in hollywood. That’s incredible and he should be congratulated. But you know what tends to happen to black men in America when they’re on top..he’s about due for what the great Paul Mooney calls “Nigger wake up call”.

But big up to will tho

  • Marcia

    Congrats Will!!!!

  • CHEF

    U FUNNT ATX.

  • Shootingstar

Good flick! This movie made me want to reach out, hug and comfort Will…with my shirt off.

  • http://www.myspace.com/birdshu Bird

I REALLY enjoyed this movie. Will is a phenominal actor. Still the script left out a lot of detail. They should have made the movie a half hour longer to explain some things. Like what was his involvement in the creation of the virus?

Anyway, like The Pursuit of Happiness I will now run out and get the book so I can get the full story. Movies are only going to tell you so much which is ok with me since I like to read and Science Fiction is my favorite genre.

  • think quick

Some of yall are bugging! Congrats to will and little miss Willow making her first starring role with her daddy.

you dont have to like his movies, movies tend not to live up to a book, you can tell a story in 2 hours like you can in a book. he may not ever win an oscar, but he continues to deliver smashes in terms of box office pull. Just ask Nicole Kidman, now she is overrated, they paid he $15mill, and her movie only made $26mill in its first week.

  • think quick

I meant *cant tell a story

  • FyreStarrter

I agree with most people that the movie was really great until the end. I think they should have extended it an additional half hour to give more premise & detail to the entire move. Also with the ending you can tell what they were trying to accomplish but because the editing throughout was so terrible & way too much ended up on the cutting room floor it left many people with their feelings hurt. I think they assumed (in most cases quite true) that people have such short attention spans & anything that requires true intellectual thought processes would not do well in Hollywood & if you look at the box office numbers you would indeed find that to be true. So what could have really been a great film at the end became a so-so one. BUT I do want to say congrats to Will Smith a VERY talented actor who made the leap for the BIGGEST opening weekend in December EVER & for having DOUBLE credits both as Lead Actor AND Producer!!! Keep doing your thing Mr. Fresh Prince!!! Much Luv & Much Success!!!

  • hmpf

    I love Will Smith. Congrats!!!!

  • ya Mama Busy?

    go ‘hed Will.

  • Seth

I saw the movie and was blown away.

Will Smith acting was superb, he controlled the screen and made you hold your breath. He is now the most bankable film star in the world. each of his movies have made more than $300 million each.

Can you imagine that he has surpassed Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks, Nic Cage and other in movie gross.

Below is a taste of what others think of him:

his total worldwide box office topping $4.4 billion, he is as sure a thing in Hollywood as celebrity DUIs, Botox, and paternity suits. Not that you’d ever find him indulging in all that. “I’ve never met anybody at that place who is as grounded and non–full of bull—-,” Theron attests. “I don’t say this kind of stuff about people, but he’s godly.”

Everyone — literally, everyone — agrees. Michael Mann, who directed Smith’s Oscar-nominated turn in “Ali,” says, “I would do anything for Will Smith at any moment in time, period.” “Hitch” costar Eva Mendes: “If you don’t like Will, you’re a jerk.” Tommy Lee Jones, his Men in Black” wingman: “If someone had a bad day at home, or is a little bit grouchy or sad, he’ll know it, and he’ll go straight to ’em and he’ll work on ’em until they’re laughing.”

  • NuAgenda

    Will is the MAN!

  • Hope

I saw the movie it was very good although very different from the book. Will is a phenominal actor! Anyone who thinks different needs to see Pursuit of Happyness PRONTO!!! Good Job BIG WILL!

  • sleep

That incredible this guy smashed them everytime out. He’s only movie that flopped was wild wild west.

  • Seth

There was only one other actor that came close to having as much alone screen time as Will Smith, that was Tom Hanks in CastAway, that movie earned $28.8 million, for the first weekend.

Will Smith for same weekend period earned $76.6 million.

The question is how many other actors beyond Will Smith and Tom Hank could by themselves keep and audience locked into their seats.

I am sure there were lots of people, who like me refused to go to the bathroom in fear that we would miss a “Will moment”.

  • Seth

I looked up Wild Wild West earning:

    Production cost was: $170 million

    Domestic earning : $113.8 million

    Worldwide earning : 222.1 million

It was a failure but, I don’t think anyone lost money there.

I do admire Will not because he is a star, but because he is a family man first, and seems to be an all round good person.

  • Unkle Kracka

He aint no pauly shore, heh, heh

  • Don’t waste your time Seth

A lot of these Will Naysayer/haters just prefer a little hood and thug in their black celebrities, and if that don’t do, a little pickinenny ala Tyler Perry Chitlin Circuit Oovre.

  • Seth

    @I Love…Snickers

    ^^Is that you Will??

    ————————-

I Wish! I’d be out celebrating with my banker.

  • Getyourhandouttamypocket

Will just gets better with age…

  • Seth

    @Don’t waste your time

A lot of these Will Naysayer/haters just prefer a little hood and thug in their black celebrities…

    ————————————-

Exactly, how many thugs make $20 million a movie.

Remember you you don’t have to be a Roman to rule Rome;)

  • http://deleted cora586974

just saw his profile on the rich men seeking affairs site seekingsugar last week. It said he is interested in seeking a beautiful woman as a sugar baby!

  • Go Will!

Go Will! I’m proud of him…and for being rated one of the 50 smartest people in hollywood. But I pray and hope to God he is not into that Scientology sh*t, and any other black celebrity that’s into it…Black folks should know better, they know God, and was raised in the church. Where did this bullsh*t come from anyway? The DEVIL? I personally think it’s a cult and they are selling their souls to the devil for success. My blessings are coming from God! And if you don’t know you betta ask somebody.

  • DROCK

WE GOT ROBBED!!!! I CO-SIGN WITH WHO EVER SAID 90% WAS GOOD BUT THE ENDING WAS NOT SATISFYING AND THE MOVIE COULD HAVE BEEN LONGER WITH MORE NIGHTCREATURE ATTACKS…WHAT WAS THE DEAL OF HIM SPRINKLIG SOME KIND OF LIQUID ON HIS FRONT STEPS????

  • Traydayz

othing wrong with being a scientologist. Some people have a problem embracing the religion of their enslavers.

  • Mahogany

Will is still in high demand.

And considering it was his production co., he’s #1 regardless.

  • Mahogany

    @ LAUGHNYOFACE

    Is that “Summertime”????

  • Mahogany

I used to love that song…..

  • Bones Jordan

Good job Will. Keep making that paper with great movies. I liked the movie a lot but thought it couldve ended a lot better. 3.5/4 Stars!!!

  • FyreStarrter

DROCK, the Cider Vinegar was to keep the Dark Seekers from smelling where he lived. Because their sensitivity to light had taken over that almost assuredly meant that their sense of smell had been heightened. I have concluded that the reasoning behind not having more attacks from the the Dark Seekers is simple. 1, how many bloody times can they attack him before it gets old for most people & 2, They did NOT want this to be labeled as a horror film (if you’ve noticed the genre of horror has really NOT been doing too well lately at the Box Office). I cannot wait for the Directors Cut-It should be even better than the theatre version!! GO WILL!!!

  • kia the original

lets see. trying to make at least 40 million in all, check. made 76 million in one weekend, check check. is about to make more, check. i aint mad at big willie. he got some haters sure but he laughing all the way to the bank!!!!

  • WhatTheHell?

I enjoyed the movie and he did a good job. I’mma need him to stop hanging out with Tom Cruise, though. Don’t drink the scientology kool-aid, Will! Those people are godless hellions.

  • lainy

It wasn’t about the acting for me it was the concept of the movie that I actually liked. In the not so far future 2011 was what did it. Overall I thought it was good. You gotta respect a brother he is not portraying your typical wrapper turned actor he is doing his thing besides Denzel, Will is earning his props.

  • DROCK

THANKS FYRE STARTTER..SO IT WAS VINAGER…

  • the truth

movie was good, very good, until the action picked up, last 20-30 min., and it lost all the atmosphere. but at least there was no ‘damn’ and typical ‘willisms’ in this.

his hard work, likability, and choices (playin’ that fruit early on endeared him to hollywierd)along with his talent got him where he is now.

..and being a closet (ain’t touchin’ or talkin’ about that) scientologist can’t hurt.

  • Just Sit And Be Pretty

Good for Will, good to see a black actor doing so well in Hollyweird.

  • Richard

The energy most of our celebrities spend chasing ass Will is using to make movies.

He does the Tom Cruise money machine movies. he also picks great projects that are marketable. I remember this film from the first time it was done by Charleton Heston.

I admire Will because I probably would be chasing ass and not as focused if I had hundreds or millions.

  • Music Publicist

    It’s actually OVERBROOK ENTERTAINMENT.

  • Luvlee

    how does one act black

is it like tyrone biggums, or titi from reno 911, i mean come one, will is an actor just like any one else, does it matter if it sucked or it didn’t and your black, so what

    so what

  • Marquis de Sade

I read the book also, Richard Matheson is probably one of the most gifted Sci-Fi writers of his generation. A lot of his books, suchas I Am Legend and The Incredible Shrinking Man (which is best) tends to deal alot with existentialism. He also wrote some of the best Twilight Zone scripts, suchas “To Serve Man”. I highly recommend The Incredible Shrinking Man, the book and the movie, which was produced back in 1957. It’s considered a classic – The main character’s ending monologue to this day, still gets me a little misty, and i consider myself a macho dude.

  • Trina

SORRY YA’LL WILL DID NOT SIGN A PRE-NUP WITH JADA WHEN SHE ASKED HIM FOR ONE. HE TOLD HER NO, SO SHE WILL BE BANKING WHEN THEY DIVORCE.

  • Kompton’sKutie

  • Mrs

Man is so fine I would love to mumble muble mumble and then mumble mumble mumble send his ass home with a LIMP. Shhiiiiit 4 days Jada let me just borrow him for four days actually a month

  • Sun Goddess

And some of ya’ll are some haters. That’s my opinion. If Will is interjecting himself into his roles, so what? Is he not entitled to do that? If you think he is not a great actor-then don’t patronize him or have your boyfriend take you.

  • Mrs

I think Jadas gorgeous tiny but gorgeous

  • truself

Funny how all these broke people know who is on meet rich or daterich.com.

If ya’ll are on there I know ain’t no celebs on that mutha for real!!!!!

  • Grace12_34

What a shame they’re trying to bring Will down now because of his off-hand comments to that trashy Scottish newspaper.
