Bossip is hearing rumors that Ruben Studdard was dropped from J Records. His last album, The Return, was released in 2006 and sold approximately 235,000 copies. It’s a shame that America supports Gay Clay Aiken more than the actual winner of American Idol Season 2.

Ya know, quite honestly, I was never impressed with Rueben’s voice. He was an okay singer to me. Now Clay Aiken can SANG, he hits notes that big Rue could never hit. I think folks got caught up in his big teddy bear, Luther Vandrossish, happy smiley personality…but again, his singing never moved me so this is no surprise.

Actually I think that’s an OLDER photo of Big Reub. I saw him here in ATL recently & TRUST he has lost quite a bit of weight. But J Records didn’t do what they should have to promote him so now they are walking away scott free. He needs to be with a label that is going to appreciate him for the real talent that he is & promote him as such. I mean the WHOLE WORLD knows he can sing. SMDH…sigh….
And on another note, he seems to be the less successful of all the winners…oh and the old salt and pepper dude. All of the others that I remember Kelly Clarkson, Fantasia, Carrie Underwood, and I’m probably forgetting someone else, are doing well. Even runners up Kelly Pickler, JHud, Clay, Daughtry are doing well.

We support Clay more because America is so set on image. Ruben can sing they just never really gave him the right material and as an african american if he aint practically selling it himself it aint gonna sell. Unlike Clay who has a very big gay support group so he gets over word of mouth, the support is instant. Sorry Ruben better luck next time. You have to ask who is the real winner?

The problem isn’t Ruben’s singing (dude can sang) it’s the the ***** (excuse me, I mean songs he’s singing). Ruben needs to step back and get some real songwriters, and he’ll zoom right to the top. Look what Luther did, went back to all those Burt Bacharach/Hal David cl*****ics… Ruben needs to do something similar (are you listening Fantasia and Jennifer too if she ever comes out with something) and have maybe 2 or 3 original songs on the next CD. Also, Ruben… put down the fork and step away from the table, while you’re at it drop and give me fifty.

The problem with Ruben and all these other artists that arn’t doing well, is because they are marketing to young people who do not buy CD’s. They download them for free. The conptemparary listers buy CD’s. That is part of Clay Aikens appeal. He has a m***** audience. Most of his fan b***** is little old ladies. That may sound corny, but I think most artist would love his fan base along with all the money that come with it.

Clay has *zero* support from the gay community. He’s buried further in the closet than Tyler Perry and everybody knows it. He sold records to deranged suburban housewives and their delusional teenage daughters. That was about it. Ever seen a picture of one of his fan groups? Nothing but middle-aged housewives.
They did support Reuben and he won the entire contest. Its a shame that Rueben would fail to show up at his concerts and promotional tour. How are you going to support him we he doesn’t even show up to his own shows. Clay didn’t miss one show and did all the promotional tours. I’m sure its racist that Fantasia album went busto as well. Its probably whiteys fault that she has missed over 30 percent of her own broadway play. I’m embarr*****ed to be black with characters like this. Why can’t we just show up to work. Like we all do.

Ruben received a Grammy nom in the year he came out. That means that the industry, his peers, wanted to give his talent and contribution to the music business its respect due. Now, he hasn’t been doin much lately but he has vocal chops and will find his niche he jus ain’t a superstar. Oh, well.

Carrie Underwood is a country artist and is breaking sales records. Daughtry has the Album sales of the year and he didn’t even win.
The black artists haven’t fared as well because they’ve tried to maintain pop momentum and put out sub material that is beneath their talent i.e Fantasia”s first album and Rube’s whole career. People haven’t forgotten him he jus became forgettable too soon. Ruben, Lose Weight and pay for good material and sang the hell out of it. He can sell records which is what it all about.
People would be a LOT more supportive of Ruben if he actually made and effort and put in the work necessary to be a star. You can’t win a contest, make one song, barely tour and then fall off the map and be surprised when everyone forgets about you. I still love Ruben and it’s not too late, but he needs to get his behind in gear!

Clay earned his success in an uphill battle. I still say he was the real winner of AI 2. That guy is hugely talented. I got tickets to Spamalot in April already. Who gives a ***** about the gay rumors. Maybe he is and maybe he isn’t. He’s a singer and I’m a fan, I’m gay and I don’t give a ***** what he is. We aren’t going to get with him and we aren’t all old ladies or all straight chicks. He deserves his success.

How many white radio stations and music shows are there versus black ones? What if you’re a black artist that DOESN’T appeal to white folk? You won’t be on TRL or get played on white radio stations. And don’t be a black artist that black folk hate. You won’t get any airtime.
I don’t know of any black radio station in my city that played Ray J, but the white ones wore One Wish out. I didn’t hear any of Ruben’s music on any station.
And you’re right about marketing of music. Young folks aren’t buying it, they are downloading it. Unless it’s someone they really like -Bow Wow.

Actually, going with the Bow Wow, etc., etc., route is exactly what is wrong with Ruben’s marketing. He’s not a playa, but he is a good, old school singer. Not everyone is cut out to be an in your face, sex it up, get me some *****. He’s a more mellow, ease into it, kinda singer, old school. He’s pretty down home, too, he’s not all dirty and he doesn’t try to be all up on the supaheads and whatnot. They need to let him be himself; he’d do just fine on a small label.

Well, reason why Ruben isn’t doing so well and Clay is: CLAY WAS THE REAL WINNER OF AI 2-NOT RUBEN. Any of the producers will tell you Clay received 80 percent of the vote every week he was on. THe one phone line and two measly hours to vote just couldn’t handle all the millions of votes Clay received. His vote tally was/or would of been many millions MORE than Ruben. DOn’t you think Clay has proven that fact A Thousand Different Ways?? Very few people believe Ruben was the real winner that night. Didn’t take a rocket scientist to realize what happened. Also Ruben hasn’t really done enough to promote himself, anyway. Also, Ruben was a one-note singer. No stage presence at all and he had a hard time breathing while singing. Not an Idol-material performer at all. IDOL FOUND (Clay), GAME OVER!!!
Clay was asked to sing at the recent UNICEF Snowflake Ball. Because he is on his 4th Christmas Concert tour he asked Ruben to take his place. If not for Clay; Ruben would have several less appearances. Clay is a very loyal friend. Plus, Clay will be traveling to Mexico next week for UNICEF as an Amb*****ador!! After that; on to Broadway and a starring role (as Sir Robin) in SPAMALOT- 5 month run!!! Ruben…he is going to do a play, one night in different cities; and then PIPPIN’ somewhere (don’t think Broadway). Curious to see if Ruben is up to doing several shows a week??? Good luck to him.

I just read, about 10 minutes ago, an article announcing a run of a Gospel play/musical Ruben and Robin Givens were to start in has been cancelled. Reason: poor ticket sales. I think Ruben should go into producing. He just may make a lucrative career out of it.

Rueben was a “no show” last night (12/19) at a Christmas program at a local, Black “mega church”. Based on the comments from church officials, he canceled at the last minute, so the church offered to give refunds to disappointed event attendees. Not many folks opted for the refund, but this does add another dimension to Reuben’s lack luster career. I purchased his first CD b/c I love his voice, so I wish him the best of luck regarding hie health and musical career, and hope that he finds fame with a smaller label that gill give him the material and support that he deserves.
I feel bad for him because he hasn’t been getting the promotion that he deserves. It’s like Hollywood did not embrace him because they wanted Clay to win. In fact, I hear more about Clay then I’ve ever heard about Reuben. Keep the prayer, Rueb.
HELL NO BOSSIP!!! Don’t put this “support” ***** on America! Ruben had sub-standard material that didn’t sell and his second album lead off single was a rip off of the first. I wish you guys would actually do your homework first, then try to play the race card. Black, white, straight or gay, his album sucked, that’s why it had poor sales.
No. It’s probably worse that most of Ruben’s fans probably bootlegged their copies of his CD(s) whereas Aiken’s fans are probably more likely to actually “buy (pay for)” his CD(s).
Plus, Ruben is a nice guy, but his songs are not that hot. Cute, maybe, but not hot.
What on earth does one have to do with the other? Ruben is a good singer, but not an entertaining performer. He has missed tons of appearances and sang songs on his CDs that did not appeal to the people who voted for him. He has had entire tours canceled. Aiken has averaged 2 tours a year for the 4 years since the show, just finishing #8. He has appeared on tons of TV shows, talk shows, benefits, charities, etc. He has stayed on the move constantly with his music, educational pursuits and philantrophy. He garners fans from all those areas. He is now even doing a 4th Unicef tour in less than 3 years. Sorry, the two have nothing in common other than a TV show. Aiken has worked extremely hard for his career. I hate to say I don’t know that Ruben has done the same.
