Uh…while I’ll admit being a model takes work, it’s not a “talent” or anything hard to do. All it takes is a work ethic. No one needs to take notes from Naomi Campbell or anyone on “How to be a model.”

There are plenty of dark-skinned supermodel sisters out there that exude class and beauty. 3 off the top of my head:

Alek Wek (Sudan)
Sessilee Lopez (Dominican Republic)
Ajuma (Kenya)
Tomiko Fraser (don’t know where she’s from, but she has done Cover Girl ads)

There are more out there. Alek, I know, has done plenty of work w/refugees and has helped other black models. Liya Kebede (although not very dark like Campbell) has helped w/ other black models as well. Iman too. Many African/American/European black models have helped other blacks gain a foot in the industry (most famous is Tyra). Naomi, although fierce and banging at 40, is vain and selfish. Her behavior thru out the years has proven time and time again, she’s full of shyte. She could have done more to help black models and designers, but all she does is complain at the twilight of her career. John Casablancas is well-respected in the fashion industry. Naomi shows up like 4 hours late to fittings and photo-shoots. (Who does this?) All her business ventures have gone belly-flop. If you really listen to her speak, she NEVER takes full responsibility (if any at all) for her foolishness. Baby Woman grow-up. Stop your whining, retire from the catwalk and hurry up marry Vlad. Enjoy the ride while u can, but just shut up already!

Maybe I worded wrong or you misread it… I am just saying there should be a positive role dark role model that gets all this press like Naomi so when you think dark skinned model who gives opportunities, you think [insert her name here] it helps alot when you have someone you can look up to. Tyra has inspired me greatly and before I knew how selfish Naomi was, she inspired me too just by being black and part African herself.

Now it’s almost like I quickly try to turn the page when I see her or I don’t buy the magazine when I see her on the cover.

So while many peeps shout praises for Naomi, she is NOT by far the only pioneering successful black (dark) supermodel. I will give her props, she was and still is a beautiful model, but she gets the most press because of her notoriety. Many of the other models above should be looked up too, they not only work hard for themselves but help others in the process as well.

It makes me so sad too because she’s so physically beautiful. But she made it clear to the world she’s only out for herself. I just wish some of these other dark skinned models (who I have heard of and seen) had more notoriety than this spawn of Satan! It would most defiantly empower dark skinned women in an America that loves you the lighter you are.

i think people forget the unbelievable amount of charity work that naomi does and has done , she has worked with the white ribbon alliance a charity that raises money for women worldwide including africa who have complication s in child birth , she relentlessly does nothing but charity work so i think everyone with an opinion should do their research .
