Yeah I was wondering when this was going to get posted. I love Ciara for her dance moves but her vocals WERE WACK!!! I was pissed because I am a HUGE Diana Ross fan & there are a hell of a lot better artists that could have been selected for this tribute. CiCi’s vocals were AWFUL. I was covering my ears & shaking my head the whole “performance”.

I don’t think she was that bad. After all, although Ms. Ross has a great voice tone, she was never no Aretha. Therefore Ciara, did the song enough justice.

As for the comments made about Fergie, Amy Winehouse, and other whites people outdoing blacks in black music, you should listen to a song recorded by Mos Def: white folks ain’t got no soul. Blacks originate the music trend, then whites come afterwards and copy the trend making it their own for the non-hip masses. They are hardly EVER the originators of what’s new and hip music. Say what you want but they never come up with new s/h/i/t on their own.

I had the pleasure of seeing Diana Ross in concert in Boston years ago and wow what a performer. now with that being said we all know Mrs Ross is a diva and cannot stand any type of competition all anyone has to do is read some books on how she did the original members of the Supreems. she’s always the center of attention and no one will take her shine!! it makes sense she would have Ciara pay her tribute as apposed to Jennifer Hudson or Jill Scott sista with powerful vocals hell even Fantazia who can sing the hell out some songs. Diana will not be upstaged by some newbi lol so have Ciara with her weak ass vocals. But does that make their music any less relevant or real? Amy Winehouse unfortunately is just One of Many who is on the path to self-destruction all the while making some of the best music in a LONG TIME. And I hardly think the people who purchased Amy’s albums are “idiots” as you so graciously put it. They just know great & TRUE music when they hear it. And Whitney Houston is another example of a true Troubled Artist whom you so graciously brought up but hopefully she has the strength to turn her life around & refocus her energy.

Amy Winehouse is internationally known and loved-the U.S. is not the first or only authority on EVERYTHING ya’ll, other countries do exist. Also, Corrine Bailey is from overseas, so is not soulful for not going through the US black struggle??? Even Lisa “Lefteye” Lopes was quoted as saying NSYNC wasn’t pop, they sung R&B. Try listening to something other than tracks fed to you by the radio, try Rhapsody or YouTube if you think all soul singers must be black. While youre at it, look up some live Diana Ross performances and let me know why she gets a tribute at all.

Amy Winehouse’s success has almost nothing to do with the color of her skin…she’s been a jazz singer from day one…she’s been clear about her influences and about her artistic design. She is the real deal and that’s why she’s enjoying so much success with Ronson, now. You cannot compare her with Fergie or Ciara or Beyonce or any of these chaotic pop singers…She’s a REAL talent and it’s not her fault that people like Beyonce and Usher waste their vocals singing about writhing asses.

I refuse to concede anything when it comes to singers not being able to sing…*shaking my head* Ciara sucks…her only musical victory was “Promise” and it was short-lived (as I loathed “Like a Boy”). And her dancing, is such unsophisticated, feral busyness…you can literally see the same thing at most street corners.

But do I think Diana’s choosing her was a shot at Beyonce? Well, not necessarily…Beyonce is a megasta, a regular at these ceremonies, she’s sung for Deniro, the Oscar bigwigs, she’s recently paid homage to Tina Turner and I think she might have done some sort of tribute to Diana, herself, with the DC girls at “Diva’s Live” one year…so, I’m thinking perhaps Diana’s competitiveness comes in there…perhaps she felt as if choosing Beyonce would appear automatic and that might somehow lead us to believe her to have had little choice in the matter.

Choosing Ciara was probably more about their being limited options, as I’m sure she wanted a singer whose voice is at least a bit comparable and a black singer, at that… And, she might have been making ammends in that choice…everyone took Diana’s “pumping and bumping” comment to be a Beyonce diss…I didn’t…I believed it was a Beyonce diss, a Ciara diss, a Rihanna diss, a Mya diss…it was aimed at EVERY SINGER WHO USES SEX TO SELL…And, who was grinding harder than Ciara at the Bet awards?

Addendum: I don’t give an eff about Ciara (although she looks less Wanda, therefore, more pretty in the pic. than I have ever seen her (no homo). I could care less about pop music, and the fn radio stations that pump that ish into people’s heads (‘cept Crank That-lol). I enjoy mostly talk radio and Metal ’cause for the love of God, the folks play musical instruments and write actual songs!

i agree she was the perfect choice for diana, and yes ciara’s vocals and perfromance was sort of lame, but i have to say that yolanda adams’ performance made up for what ciara’s performance lacked

@FYI Actually I HAVE seen Diana Ross live…THREE TIMES IN TWO DIFFERENT COUNTRIES. & while she’s not the worlds greatest singer, SHE IS a legendary entertainer. BUT she shot herself in the foot last night when she chose Ciara to perform. Erykah Badu performed a tribute to her at the BET Awards this year & KILLED IT. She could just as easily have done it again at the Kennedy Center.

As for the comments made about Fergie, Amy Winehouse, and other whites people outdoing blacks in black music, you should listen to a song recorded by Mos Def: white folks ain’t got no soul. Blacks originate the music trend, then whites come afterwards and copy the trend making it their own for the non-hip masses. They are hardly EVER the originators of what’s new and hip music. Thats sad your vocals are strong enough to do a tribute to diana ross tribute!

She definitely has potential, but I can’t recall ever seing this girl look chic or classy (think Kerry, Nia, Zoe, Joy, Halle or Gabi most of the time, Venus as of late). I know she has to dress a certain way on stage, but come on. Time to let the stylist go. She’s trying too damn hard to look hot and it just doesn’t work for her.

Okay maybe Ciara’s voice is not the best, but she has show presence and she looks good. Diana Ross is not a singer either; she has always contended that she is a performer not a singer, so I think they made a good choice in picking someone who is an entertainer not a singer. And to the people who are race hating, to even use Fergie or Amy as examples shows how weak you are. Both ladies have had their problems with drugs and I don’t even think Amy W. would want anyone to put her up against anyone else. She is fighting for her life right now.

I don’t think she sounded that bad; she just needed to do more singing instead of the posing and look as though she is actually comfortable on stage. Ciara’s handlers need to keep her away from these type of performances because she is only making herself look bad. It’s really been a lackluster year for her. So if she has any plans on sticking around, her team better get it together. She needs a new clothing and hair stylist (desperately), new choreographer and a new musical direction. Wearing short skirts and the dancing is no longer cutting it.

Weezy, I do believe that Fergie has a beautiful voice that I have yet to hear in her music. She is doing just like most of your successful “crossover” whites stilling our music and putting a blonde spin on it.
