Lawyers Say More Women Are Paying Alimony Today Than Ever Before

Tables have turned in U.S. divorce courts with more women paying their former husbands alimony and child support than ever before, according to U.S. lawyers.

As women climb higher up the career ladder and outpace their exes in salary, when love goes wrong and marriages break up they are being compelled to contribute to the livelihood of their former spouses.
And some are not happy about it.

More than half, 56 percent, of divorce lawyers across the United States have seen an increase in mothers paying child support in the last three years and 47 percent have noted a hike in the number of women paying alimony, according to the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.

“It shows that women have really moved up financially and that in many instances they are the major bread winners in a lot of families,” said Alton Abramowitz, the president-elect of the academy.

“The glass ceiling has been pierced and more and more women have taken over the financial responsibilities and have been saddled with them as well. It is a fact of the way our society has evolved over the last number of years.”

To some of these ladies, financial equality isn’t all it’s cracked up to be…

Although women have made strides professionally, the divorce rate in the United States has remained fairly constant. About half of marriages in the United States end in divorce. The rate has hovered between 46 and 53 percent for decades, he added.

Just as many men grumbled about paying alimony to their former wives, women are not pleased with the turnaround.

“We see women who are every bit as angry as their male counterparts, maybe more so, when they are confronted with the concept of paying spousal support to a man,” said Abramowitz.

Oh how tables have turned! Bet you find more ladies screaming “We want pre-nup!” in their best Kanye West voice now huh? LMAO!

Houston Stripper Named Pocahontas On The Run After Setting Up Robbery And Murder

Police are searching for a stripper named Pocahontas who is wanted on charges of capital murder and aggravated robbery.

The suspect’s real name is Luerissie Ross.

According to court documents, Ross befriended her victims and set them up to be robbed.

The most recent case happened on February 17 in the 2300 block of Tidwell.

Budrohoe Briscoe had picked up a relative at the airport and told him they were going to meet a friend named Pocahontas.

When they got to her apartment on Tidwell, Pocahontas asked Budrohoe to meet her in the courtyard. The cousin waited in the car, but he saw two men approach Budrohoe and shoot him.

Budrohoe was rushed to the hospital, but he later died from his injuries.

“He was a good person, you know, kind-hearted,” said Courtney Houston, Briscoe’s cousin. “When I got that phone call and heard what happened, it’s crazy.”

Houston said his cousin left behind seven children

Apparently, this kind of set up is Pocahontas’ M.O.

Detectives checked the database and learned that Ross had been charged with a similar case last December 30.

In that case, Carlton Donnato told police that Ross and her boyfriend came to his house on Hollister and robbed him. Donnato said the boyfriend, Kevin Nelson, shot him before they fled.

Donnato survived and identified Ross in a photo lineup. She was charged with aggravated robbery and put on an ankle monitor.

Investigators brought Ross in for questioning in late March. They said she confessed that she set up both victims and identified Nelson as the shooter in both cases.

She was later released and now police are trying to find her. Police said they now believe she may be involved in more cases.

FDA May Approve HIV Pill Truvada For Mass Consumption

The first drug shown to prevent HIV infection won the endorsement of a panel of federal advisers Thursday, clearing the way for a landmark approval in the 30-year fight against the virus that causes AIDS.

In a series of votes, a Food and Drug Administration advisory panel recommended approval of the daily pill Truvada for healthy people who are at high risk of contracting HIV, including gay and bisexual men and heterosexual couples with one HIV-positive partner.

The FDA is not required to follow the panel’s advice, though it usually does. A final decision is expected by June 15.

Gilead Sciences Inc., based in Foster City, Calif., has marketed Truvada since 2004 as a treatment for people who are infected with the virus. The medication is a combination of two older HIV drugs, Emtriva and Viread. Doctors usually prescribe it as part of a drug cocktail to repress the virus.

While panelists ultimately backed Truvada for prevention, Thursday’s 12-hour meeting highlighted a number of concerns created by the first drug to prevent HIV. In particular, the panel debated whether Truvada might lead to reduced use of condoms, the most reliable defense against HIV. The experts also questioned the drug’s effectiveness in women, who have shown much lower rates of protection in studies.

Panelists struggled to outline steps that would ensure patients take the pill every day. In clinical trials, patients who didn’t take their medication diligently were not protected, and patients in the real world are even more likely to forget than those in studies.

Says one doctor about the controversial drug:

“The trouble is adherence, but I don’t think it’s our charge to judge whether people will take the medicine,” said Dr. Tom Giordano of Baylor College of Medicine, who voted in favor of the drug. “I think our charge is to judge whether it works when it’s taken and whether the risks outweigh the benefits.”

Once again, this pill is not a “I don’t need no condom baby, I take Truvada” situation. Strapping up will always be the most effective way to prevent the spread of disease, however this drug would definitely be a breakthrough in the fight against HIV/AIDS
