Gabrielle Union Says She And Dwyane Wade Are Taking Their Time Wedding

Gabrielle Union says there’s no full court press on her to marry baller boo thang D-Wade. In an interview with Access Hollywood she talked about why her first marriage failed and how she and Wade are in no rush to wed:

“What you learn from divorce is you have to be incredibly honest, about what you want, what you need, and what your expectations are,” Union, 39, revealed. “As women, we’re sort of taught to go along, to get along, not cause any ruffles…but yeah, that got me divorced.”

When asked by host Billy Bush, if, after three years of dating, she and Wade consider their relationship to be a “serious” one, Union joked, “It’s seriously…awesome.” Added the star, “We’re taking our time!”

Explaining that she and her NBA star beau “both rushed” into their first marriages (Wade, 30, was married to his high school girlfriend until 2007), “Now we’re like, let’s take our time,” the actress explained. “If the goal is forever, what are we rushing for?”

What a refreshing point of view. We believe her too. Gabs doesn’t seem like she is pressed to get married again or have kids, she seems to like her freedom and independence. Do you think more women should be like her?

Still let’s not forget she’s also said she and D-Wade would marry on camera for the right price.

Chicago – A nephew of NBA superstar Dwyane Wade was one of five people wounded in a gang-related shooting at a South Side convenience store Thursday night that also left one man dead.

Two men entered the Bishop Golden Store in the 1400 block of West 79th Street and opened fire on the people inside about 6 p.m., killing one man and wounding five others, police said.

The Rev. Michael Pfleger said Friday that one of the wounded was a nephew of Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade. The nephew is 20-years-old and police sources told FOX Chicago News that he is a gang member.

“I don’t have all of the details at this time. My thoughts and prayers are with all involved, including my nephew and sister,” Wade said in a statement. “Having grown up in the inner-city, I am aware of the difficult realities that exist on the streets. One of the goals of my foundation, the Wade’s World Foundation, is to continue to spread the message that the violence needs to stop.”

On Friday, with 13 people shot in Chicago in less than six hours, protesters marched on the city’s South Side in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood. They said they’re mad and some are afraid, but they’re willing to take the right steps to take back these streets.

Investigators said Thursday’s shooting was gang-related, with rivals shooting at each other, but too many times innocent people are caught in the crossfire and the residents are sick and tired of the senseless shootings and killings.

“I’m not afraid to be in the community,” said Andrea Banks, who is a parent. “I feel like we have to make our voice heard. I have kids in this community and I have kids that have to ride the bus. My concern is I want to know that when my kids leave the house that they can get to school safely.”

Detectives are reviewing footage from a Chicago Police camera stationed across the street from the store, according to police, who said the suspects fled north on Bishop Street in a silver SUV.

Killed in the attack was Shawndell Harris, 22, of the 9100 block of South Perry Avenue, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. He was dead at the scene.

The wounded ranged in age from 16 to 25, police said. Four were initially hospitalized in critical condition, Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford said.

Police called the shooting gang-related.

Pfleger, pastor of nearby St. Sabina Church, said he attempted to visit the store on Friday, but the owner would not let him inside.

“One of the things I’ve been saying is that we have to do something about these stores that are the street offices of gangs,” Pfleger said. “We have to stop letting these kind of stores destroy our communities by letting the gangs hang out there.”

All six people were inside the small store when they were wounded, but some had stumbled outside by the time paramedics arrived. Numerous shell casings remained on the floor when officers arrived, a source said.

Londale McNeal, a pastor at a church next door to the store, said he heard “about 10 to 12 shots ring out” and saw two men in dark hooded sweatshirts jump into a vehicle. McNeal was with his wife, daughter and grandson.

Police said no one was in custody Friday evening.

On Friday night, a community group will rally at 79th and Bishop streets to send a message to the shooters and call for an end to violence in the Auburn-Gresham neighborhood.

Dwyane Wade’s Nephew Shot In Chicago

A nephew of Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade was shot and wounded in Chicago during a violent stretch in which 13 men were shot, two fatally, in America’s 3rd-largest city.

Wade, a native of Chicago, confirmed his nephew was one of six men shot at a convenience store on the city’s South Side Thursday night by hooded men who fled in an SUV. One man died at the scene; four were in critical condition. There were three other shooting incidents Thursday in Chicago where gun violence has been on the rise.

Wade’s nephew, whose name was not disclosed, was hospitalized as of Friday. Playing with his wounded relative in mind, Wade scored 30 points in the Heat’s 113-101 win over the Toronto Raptors Friday night. After the game, Wade said:

You never expect to a get a call like that…Something I always focus on with my foundation when I go back to Chicago is to do what I can to stop the violence. To have one of your own family members be involved in it, it hurts. I just thank God that he’s healthy. … Thank God he’s going to get another chance.

The shooting comes a week after Wade, LeBron James and Heat teammates wore hoodies to show their support for Trayvon Martin, the 17-year old shot to death by Neighborhood Watch supervisor George Zimmerman in Sanford, Fla.

Gotta do better y’all. We hope D-Wade’s nephew makes a full recovery.

The same day President Obama commented for the first time on the fatal shooting of unarmed Trayvon Martin in Sanford, All-Star guard Dwyane Wade and his Miami Heat teammates also injected themselves into the conversation:

Echoing President Obama, Dwyane Wade spoke personally as a parent about about the shooting death of Florida teenager Trayvon Martin. And shortly afterward, the Miami Heat sent a message as a team, posing in hoodies for a photo that LeBron James tweeted.

Wade also posted a photo of himself on Facebook in which he wears a hoodie with the message “#hoodies #stereotype #trayvonmartinmessage.” The shooting of Martin , 17, by a neighborhood-watch guard last month continues to resonate; George Zimmerman, the guard, claims he acted in self-defense and has not been charged. Martin was wearing a hoodie when he was killed.

“I’m a father,” Wade, who has two sons, said Friday (via the Sun Sentinel) in Detroit. “It’s support of the tragic thing that has taken place. No matter what color, race, we’re all fathers.

“When you think about what that family’s going through, it hits you hard and it hurts your heart to think about it. Just anything you can do, obviously we can’t bring him back, but anything you can do to get behind and support is what we’re doing.”

The photo is not new, but Wade found a new use for it. “It’s a picture that I’ve taken before. I thought it was great opportunity to use it,” Wade said. “I’ve never used it before, really. So that was a great opportunity to use it. Just to get the people to understand what we’re in support of.”
