Ginuwine took the time out recently to discuss the late great Aaliyah:

“Aaliyah was in a class by herself,” Ginuwine tells The BoomBox. “If you’re talking triple threat of a writer, singer and actress, that would probably be Beyoncé. If Aaliyah were still here, she and Beyoncé would be neck and neck.”

While the Aaliyah comparisons with newer artists still float on today, Ginuwine says it’s nothing to shun. “Ain’t nothing wrong with that,” he says. “I think everyone should aspire to be someone great, and that was one of the greats. Aaliyah was one of the great ones.”

Elgin Lumpkin is absolutely correct about his comparison, however, one thing he forgot to mention is that Aaliyah was a quadruple threat because she was a dancer who moved so effortlessly. Beyonce and her gyrating crotchy-liciousness could never compare to that in a million years. (No comment on the Aaliyah/Jay-Z relationship)

The 2010 Soul Train awards went down last night in Atlanta and LOTS of interesting characters were in the building wearing some pretty funky getups… That goes for about half of Goodie Mobb (Cee-Lo, Khudjo, T-Mo, Bigg Gipp), but you’ll have to keep reading to see who else decided to show up and show out!

Cee-Lo found his friend Erykah, who we’re pretty sure wasn’t about to say isht about his golden get up.

Looks like Freddie Jackson was more than a little bit, uhhh, happy to see Anita Baker.

Ginuwine held a listening party for his new album Elgin at Straits Monday night in Atlanta.

A number of guests were in the building including Sister 2 Sister Magazine Editor-in-chief Jamie Foster-Brown, singer Sunshine Anderson, Tank, rapper Khia, Ray Lavender, Producer Stevie J., Nate Walker, Bryan Michael-Cox, Troy Davis, Chaka Zulu and Princess from Crime Mob.

Ginuwine, who previously made headlines for filming the video for “What Could Have Been”, with actress Malinda Williams will drop his new project Feb.8, 2011.

SOLE: We met in 1999. Tyrese introduced us. Ginuwine was looking for me.
GINUWINE: Yeah, I had seen her on TV. I said, ‘Oh, I’m going to get that.’ That’s what I said; because she was very attractive. She was just the one I wanted. I was actually doing a video called ‘None of Your Friends’ Business.’ I’d seen her quite a few times because we was doing shows together. I asked her if she would be in the video. And she was like, yeah. So basically that’s how it started.

In a recent interview with VIBE,Ginuwine dish the dirt on the relationship between him and producer Timbaland. These two came up at the same time, so one would think that they are still friends but… That is not the case:

“He really hasn’t been interested in working with me, so I can’t speak on the present,” Ginuwine tells VIBE of Timbaland. “But back in the days, it spoke for itself as far as him being the most sought after producer. Music was boring until he came out with that new sound. Back then, I would have described it as futuristic because it was something that had not been done and people jumped on it. If it wasn’t for him making that style as hot as it is, a lot of producers that’s out now maybe wouldn’t even be here.”

“Me and Tim were real close at one point. A lot of the times that I reached out, there were a bunch of excuses,” explains Ginuwine. “I begged and pleaded with him because I felt a certain way but I was like, is it just a bad vibe that I’m picking up on? Maybe I’m bugging out, I don’t know. But it came out to be true and I still feel like he owes me an apology for that. The reason I’m pissed off at him now is because of what he did. I would’ve been cool and not bothered him if he would’ve said, ‘Nah, I’m too busy,’ or gave me the lame excuse like he’s been giving me. But don’t do it and then not do what you’re supposed to do [to promote the song].”
