Denzel Washington has been voted as America’s favorite movie star of 2007 according to the annual Harris Poll. He beat out Tom Hanks, Johnny Depp, and Julia Roberts.

Kudos to Denzel for making a strong impact on the entertainment industry.

Denzel and Pauletta Washington were spotted leaving Mr. Chow in Hollyweird this weekend. Denzel has been looking a tad bit scruffy lately, but we’re sure the ladies don’t mind a little five o’clock shadow coming from him.

In other Denzel news, his movie “The Great Debaters” will get no play at the White House:

The highly praised film, starring Oscar-winners Washington and Forest Whitaker, was just nominated for eight NAACP Image Awards. But a memo from the White House’s Paris Dennard, which this column has seen, says that “there will not be a screening here at the White House. I could not get time on President Bush or Mrs. Bush’s calendars.”

American Gangster was nominated for two Golden Globe Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor in a Drama for Denzel Washington. Congrats to all the cast. The Globes are considered to loosely predict Oscar nominations.

Jurnee Smollett, who played the leading role of Eve in the movie Eve Bayou ten years ago, is grown and legal now 21 years old. We almost didn’t recognize her minus the curly hair and with all that smoky eye make-up. She attended the 6th Annual BAFTA/LA Cunard Britannia Awards last night in LA.

Sources exclusively tell Bossip that Denzel Washington was spotted in Vegas last month at an after-party for the Mayweather-De La Hoya fight with a young hostess. According to a source, the Oscar-winner left with the aspiring actress/model and they spent the night together at the private mansion residence where the party was held. Other “notables” at the party says the source included Wesley Snipes and Judge Mathis.

Bossip can confirm that Denzel was in fact in Vegas during the weekend of the fight. Developing…..

Denzel Washington once turned down a love scene with Julia Roberts out of loyalty to his female African-American fans, Allison Samuels reveals in her new book, “Off the Record” (Amistad). Washington nixed the steamy segment even though Roberts insisted that he be cast as her co-star in “The Pelican Brief,” writes Samuels, a respected Newsweek reporter. Washington explained: “Black women are not often seen as objects of desire on film. And they have always been my core audience.”

If only Taye Diggs was that smart after Stella Got Her Groove Back. Denzel finally accepted some affection from Julia Roberts at the Oscars in 2002 when she kissed him after he won an Oscar.

“Blue-eyed soul” singer Robin Thicke may be slippin letting his girl fly solo to “everything”. Denzel who was rumored to have had a fling with Sanaa Lathan a while back may have already pushed up on Paula. Here is Paula talking about Denzel’s “genius”:

Paula: You can’t have butterflies at the moment when you work with him. At that moment you have to be just another person or you’ll be eaten alive. It’s when you walk away from working with Denzel that you go [silent scream] ‘I just worked with Denzel Washington!’ You’re in your hotel room and every movie on that weekend is a movie he’s been in. But, I can say working with Denzel is like an actor going to graduate school, for me, it was like that. I learned so much from him. He’s a genius. He taught me that you prepare and prepare and don’t rehearse. You go in and see what organically happens. He would always surprise me.

Here is Paula Patton talking about her new movie Deja Vu with Denzel Washington. When asked about a possible connection between her and Denzel, she seems to try to downplay it making it sound suspect. Denzel is probably hittin that.
