How can you not love this guy? Nas is readying his return with his 10th solo album Life Is Good and he did a pretty dope interview with Complex that we wanted to share with you. In the interview he goes into depth about his divorce — something he hasn’t really done too much in the past. He also addresses his relationship with daughter Destiny, y’all know that drama was all over Bossip. Peep what he had to say below:

“Daughters” was an emotional record. What made you be so honest?

This is the first time I’m dealing with a teenage daughter, and it blows me away. I don’t know that you’re ever prepared to be a parent. Once you become one, that’s your responsibility. It’s more like me talking to myself, about how I could have been there a lot more. I beat myself up for not being the best I could be. I would ask her: “Am I a cool dad?” or “Am I a good dad? Did I fawk up?” And she would say, “Nah, you’re good.” That’s important to me because I started as a teen. I was around 19 when her mother was pregnant. My daughter means a lot to me. It’s just a record that came from the heart.

What’s the most important thing that you want to teach your son about women?

He has to have his own life. My experience could be the wrong thing for his life and what’s ahead of him. A lot of older people are giving the worst advice, based on the problems they had. I’m going to need him to tell me what to do. That’s what I’m looking forward to. If I’m here, we’ll talk. If not, he’s going to figure it out on his own. He’ll take his mother’s words, he’ll take my words, and then there’s the truth. Whatever he feels, he’s got to go with his heart, and be a man in every occasion.

What’s your relationship with the blogs and Twitter?

I don’t understand how artists get pissed off at people on Twitter. I appreciate a good joke. I mean, who are you? Not to say that people should have the toughest skin, and nothing should bother you… Maybe it’s just my age. I know who I am. I know what I’ve survived, and I know what I’ve done. That isht wasn’t easy. So for someone who doesn’t know anything about that to comment on it, you can’t be mad at them. They don’t know any better.

We like it that he can appreciate a good joke, cuz a lot of artists be gettin’ their panties in a knot over what we at Bossip consider good clean chuckles…

Nas Speaks About His Divorce From Kelis And High Alimony Payments

Things got “crazy,” the pride of Queensbridge, New York, said on Wednesday’s “RapFix Live.” The divorce thrust Nas into the New York tabloids, where he was alternately painted as the victim of a gold-digging star and a cheater who callously hid the ATM cards with a baby on the way. Having stayed mostly mum over the years, Nas was ready to tell Sway his side.

‪”Life is crazy,” the famously private MC said. “I [wound] up paying more money to baby mommas than what some of my rap brothers and sistren make.”

‪At the time, several outlets reported that Kelis was seeking about $45,000 a month in child and spousal support from the father of two, daughter Destiny from a previous relationship and son Knight with the “Bossy” singer. The figure was formally reduced last year by a court to a $25,000 month, but the scrutiny left Nas scarred.

“I’ve always been away from too much limelight and that right there put me in your — no one’s exempt from people probing into your life once you get into the game,” he conceded. “So [the divorce] put a lot of my business out there, man. People weren’t thinking I was making that kind of money, and now they knew.”

The handsome single rapper — a record number of MTV’s female staffers suddenly turned up on set this week — paused to reflect on what advice he’d give to a newly engaged couple. He looked away, the “God’s Son” tattoo on his neck visible for a split second, before responding.

‪”Man, if you’re happy,” he sighed and then paused again. “Love is a beast. Hold on, be prepared for any way it may go, and be honest.” ‪ Nas’ tax woes have also made the front page, but he declined to discuss the topic, promising instead to confront it on Life Is Good.

Sounds like the split with Kelis hit Nas hard in the bank and the brain. Can’t be so sloppy with your jump-offs holmes, divorce court tends to frown upon husbands that chop down hoes by the handful…
