JET’s cover star for their upcoming (February 6) issue and inside he gets pretty revealing.

Here’s what he had to say about how he found his calling:

“I was just standing in the corner, looking out my window and seeing the richness and variety of African-American experience. What I was seeing on television and the diversity of African-American experience was lacking in television and film. And my parents were very progressive. I remember getting a lecture from my mother. ‘Don’t let them tell you that Cleopatra looked like Elizabeth Taylor.’ She really was about re-education.”

Tyler Perry recently came out to say African American cast are on the verge of becoming extinct, even with the recent release of Red Tails, the question of the state of black actors in Hollyweird has been a major hot topic.

But HOLD UP! How could we ignore the many black movies that have come out to inspire, entertain and be critically admired? Check out our list of all African American cast films and tell us what you think! Did we leave your favorite movie out?

Known as one of the most successful black filmmakers in Hollywood, Tyler Perry foresees a major shift in films starring an all African American cast.

Perry recently wrote an open letter on his site stemming from George Lucas’ recent statement on the lack of support that he received during the making of ‘Red Tails,’ stating that films starring an all black cast are on the verge of being extinct:

Unfortunately, movies starring an all African American cast are on the verge of becoming extinct. THAT’S RIGHT, EXTINCT! Ask any executive at a Hollywood Studio why, and most of them will tell you one of two things. The first thing they’ll say is that DVD sales have become very soft, so it’s hard for a movie with an all black cast to break-even. Secondly they’ll say, most movies are now dependent on foreign sales to be successful and most “black” movies don’t sell well in foreign markets. So what that means is you will begin to see less and less films that star an all black cast. Isn’t that sad in a 2012 America? Somewhere along the way we still haven’t realized that we are more alike then not.

I must tell you that I have been very fortunate to work with a studio that sees the value in my type of storytelling and filmmaking. As well as having you, an audience of all races of people, who have stood by me arm and arm. It has helped me navigate through some pretty rough waters.

I thought that as black people in Hollywood, this is just our reality, but I quickly realized that this is not racism. What made me realize this is I had a conversation with Mr. Star Wars himself, George Lucas, and he was telling me that he was having the same problem with Red Tails. I was blown away! Red Tails is an important story about, not just black history, but American history about the Tuskegee Airmen. It has an all-star African American cast, including Cuba Gooding Jr. and Terrence Howard, which opens this Friday. He went on to say that he brought the movie idea of Red Tails to several studios and no one wanted to make this film… AND THIS IS GEORGE LUCAS! Not to be deterred, he put up his own money, shot the movie then took it back to those same studios, and they wanted nothing to do with it. One of them even refused to see the film, citing the above mentioned problems. So George decided to take a huge risk by entirely funding the movie and releasing it himself. What a guy! For him to believe so strongly in this story is amazing. I think we should pull together and get behind this movie. I really do! Not just African Americans, but all of us. I have seen the movie and screened it here in Atlanta. I loved it and I think you will too. The Tuskegee Airmen, who were at the screening, were so happy that somebody is telling a small part of their story.

It opens this Friday. Please take your kids, you will enjoy it and so will they. There is a lot of action and adventure and also a great history lesson to be learned.

George, I just want to say, thank you for having the courage to do this.

Kim Kardashian has been rubbing people the wrong way since she made it big.

So, she’s an attention sloring liar and possible homewrecker. So that’s bound to piss people off. Here are a few people that have been fed up with Kimmy Cakes and her ways. Just take a look at the angry people.

People are suing for anything these days. SMH. TMZ has the scoop and the ellipses.

Jamie Foxx and Tyler Perry are being sued for $1 million each by a prisoner — who claims the duo jacked his idea for a groan-worthy new comedy … starring Foxx, Perry, and Martin Lawrence … all dressed as women.

In case you haven’t heard … the project is called “Skank Robbers” — a wacky action comedy about two lady bank robbers … with Lawrence’s Sheneneh character from “Martin,” Foxx’s Wanda from “In Living Color,” and according to reports … Tyler Perry’s Madea … from every bad movie you’ve seen. The project is reportedly in development.

Enter Shamont Lyle Sapp — who, coincidentally, says he’s serving time in Oklahoma for 10 bank robberies — he’s filed a lawsuit, claiming he gave Foxx and Perry the idea for the project … and they cut him out of the action.

According to the docs, Shamont had the idea to unite the three characters in one film — but his version wasn’t a comedy about bank robbers … it was a drama about a mental hospital.

The lawsuit encapsulates Sapp’s idea — “A male white mental patient takes Madea hostage … He deals with phone calls from the negotiators, as Madea actually pleads for her life in a very sad tear-jerking way … Her pleas are to be very sad. No jokes at all.”

Sounds like a blast. Shamont is also suing Fox Broadcasting and producer David Zuckerman for a total of $4 million in damages. Calls to Foxx and Perry’s camps were not returned.

But here’s the thing, Foxx debuted his Skank Robbers teaser back in 2009 before Shamont allegedly came up with his plan. Soooo basically he could sit his a$$ down somewhere and get a real job.

Madea’s been hiding bricks under her dress this whole time?!

In his new memoir, Never Would Have Made It: The Rise of Tyler Perry, the Most Powerful Entertainer in Black America (And What It Really Took to Get Him There), Melvin Childs, a self-described former radio executive, claims Perry’s growth was significantly dependent on his early investment in him.

Childs also makes the shocking charge that Perry used “risky deals with drug dealers, couriers carrying large bags of cash across the country; backstabbing and double-dealing with corrupt promoters,” plus other illicit means to fund his early work according to the book’s press release.

Childs, who says he has an eye for writing talent, alleges that he helped discover a then unknown Perry. Childs invested in Perry by putting up the money for his production of I Know I’ve Been Changed at Atlanta’s House of Blues — a turning point in the star’s career. Those sold-out shows led to Tyler Perry’s first successful national tour, which were allegedly also made possible through Childs’ money and connections. Childs says he supported the then-struggling star by providing for Perry’s basic living expenses at that time.

Hmm…we’re not sure about this one The guy has some interesting claims but it may all be sour grapes.

On his website promoting the book, excerpts show that Childs lamented feeling disregarded by Perry for some time after having been his prime benefactor. Childs writes in Never Would Have Made It:

Was I just a promoter when you came to me for a loan because you didn’t have the money to pay your cast? Was I just a promoter when you called me to borrow money to buy food or when I personally paid for the hotel you were living in while you were supposedly homeless? Maybe I was and if that’s the case, then so be it. But guess what? Regardless of what he wants to call me, I was there. And because I was there, I also have a story to tell.

Yeah, this is interesting and all, but dude sounds like he’s just bitter and is airing out a personal vendetta. Still, we wonder how many people will be out buying this book and buying those wolf tickets.

According to National Enquirer reports:

Brandy is still steaming over the sleazy sex tape that Kim Kardashian made with her brother Ray J and is livid that director Tyler Perry cast Kim alongside her in his new movie “The Marriage Counselor,” insiders say.

Now the former “Moesha” star, 32, is demanding that Kim stay out of her way on the set!

“Brandy is telling friends that she’s furious with Tyler Perry,” a family friend divulged.

“She feels that Tyler purposely cast both her and Kim in the film because it would generate a lot of buzz. She’s told anyone who’ll listen that she hates working with Kim and she doesn’t want to be anywhere near her.”

“Brandy has even asked the production people to give her a heads-up if Kim is on the set because she doesn’t want to run into the wannabe movie star!”

Um… In this economy, we thought Brandy would have been happy about this come up.
