Would you recruit for a church if you weren’t a member?

Will Smith has joined the ranks of Hollywood power players actively recruiting for the Church of Scientology. Smith, who is best buddies with Scientology booster Tom Cruise, has never confirmed that he joined the church. But he told “Access Hollywood” last month: “I was introduced to it by Tom, and I’m a student of world religion. I was raised in a Baptist household. I went to a Catholic school, but the ideas of the Bible are 98% the same ideas of Scientology, 98% the same ideas of Hinduism and Buddhism.”

Just when you think Will is on top of the world, someone finds a way to bring him down. Following the box office success of “I Am Legend”, Will told a Scottish paper the following:

“Even Hitler didn’t wake up going, ‘Let me do the most evil thing I can do today.’ I think he woke up in the morning and using a twisted, backwards logic, he set out to do what he thought was ‘good.’”

The Jewish Defense League is pretty pissed off and asked that his film be boycotted. Do you think it was that serious?

Will Smith’s ‘I am Legend’ broke the box office record for the biggest opening in December by taking in over $76 million over the weekend. Will’s Overbook Entertainment was behind the production.

This just means even more stacks for his next film.

Will Smith seems like he is trying to get a little too friendly with David Beckham:

“I love his energy and his attitude, what he represents to the sport and we’re just really getting to know them. They’re very, very funny and I keep telling them they should let people know how funny they are because they’re hilarious. I’m interested in spending some time with them and getting to know them.”

Yeah we bet. With Will and Jada’s track record we’re pretty sure they think the Beckhams are more than just “funny”.

Will Smith is on the cover of the December issue of Men’s Vogue. He sure has come a long way from his days as the Fresh Prince. His new movie I Am Legend hits the theaters next month.

Damn we see Men’s Vogue is doing the fellas some justice, just last month Denzel was featured and now Will Smith is getting his sophisticated man swagger on in there.

Will and Jada’s 6 year-old daughter Willow will make her acting debut in Kit Kittredge: An American Girl Mystery. The movie is being currently filmed in Toronto, and her family is there for support. With 9 year-old Jaden winning an MTV award and now little Willow scoring roles in feature films, 15 year-old Trey might want to get on his grind instead of being bunned up at Magic Mountain engulfed in a sea of Swirl Love.

Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland) goes up against Leonardo Dicaprio (The Departed and Blood Diamond) for Best Performance by Actor tonight. Forest Whitaker shouldn’t have a problem winning tonight although Dicaprio has two entries for Best Performance by an Actor. Will Smith (In Pursuit of Happyness) is also in this category but is seen as a long shot.

Prediction: Forest Whitaker

Note: Forest Whitaker has already beaten out Dicaprio a couple times in recent weeks and we expect the trend to continue.

Beyonce (Dreamgirls) is up against Meryl Streep (The Devil Wears Prada) for Best Actress.

Prediction: Meryl Streep

We expect Eddie Murphy and Jhud to take home awards tonight for Best Supporting Actor and Actress (Dreamgirls).

If you missed The Last King of Scotland, the DVD comes out next month and should be scooped. Forest Whitaker actually becomes Ugandan leader Idi Amin and his performance is sick. You can also see Kerry Washington in the movie.

After losing his fan base sometime after How Stella Got Her Groove Back, Taye Diggs just can’t seem to get it right. ABC just canceled Day Break due to poor ratings. Previously, the UPN show Kevin Hill which starred Taye Diggs was canceled as well.

Taye probably lost some of his fan base when he said this to Rolling Out Magazine::

“What [black women] were happy about was that [Mendes’ character in Hitch] wasn’t white; she was Latina,” Diggs explains when asked why Will Smith’s role in the film didn’t draw as much cultural ire as some of the choices he’s made on- and off-screen. “That’s what they were happy about, if we’re gonna be real. That’s how the scale goes. First off, if it’s a dark brother and the dark brother isn’t with a dark sister that causes issues. … After that, if you’re going to date outside the race, then they go down the list of how poorly other minorities have been treated after blacks. [So] after that, you have Latino. … Like, I’ve had people say that about my wife: ‘At least she looks Spanish.’ Like that makes it a little bit better. So that’s why people accepted it. If Will Smith had been with a lily-white woman, it would’ve been a completely different situation in the black community as far as females are concerned. I guarantee you that.”

Did he get these wacky theories at Syracuse? Sounds like he got that stuff from a therapist. Click here for why some folks just think Taye is “corny”.

Jennifer Hudson was nominated for a Golden Globe for best supporting actress today. Beyonce got a nomination for best actress for musical or comedy (separate from Best Actress-General) and Eddie Murphy got a nod for best supporting actor. Reports surfaced last week that the studio behind Dreamgirls was lobbying for Beyonce to cop Best Actress awards despite Jhud’s star performance. Beyonce also copped a nomination for Best Song. The Golden Globe Awards are pretty much the “Pre-Oscars”. Will Smith and Forest Whitaker got nods for Best Actor. Click here for full list.
