Quote of The Day: Charles Barkley

Posted by Bossip Staff

Charles Barkley recently weighed on the Imus situation:

CHARLES Barkley thinks Don Imus should have been suspended, but not fired, for insulting the Rutgers women's basketball team. On last night's "Boomer Esiason Show" on MSG, the NBA star said, "It was an insult to those young ladies. . . . He owed them an apology. I think a suspension was warranted." Barkley criticized civil rights leaders for ignoring Imus' insults against Jews, Asians and others. "Anytime something happens, you [media] guys have a magnet on Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, like they speak for all black people . . . which is unfortunate and unfair. Al and Jesse have said racist things before. I don't think you can have selective prosecution . . . that's not right, that's not fair."

If Imus would have cut Jesse or Sharpton a check in the back office, everything would have been fine. See what happens when you don't want to be ho when it's time to be a ho. Imus needs to talk to Don Juan or Kim Kardashian to be put on some of this pimp-ho game and how it works.

Quote of the Day: 'Bugs Monkey'

Posted by Bossip Staff

25 Cent who Camron has called "Bugs Monkey" dropped some words of FUBU wisdom at the BET Awards press conference yesterday. He was asked if he would remove offensive lyrics from his music and follow Master P:

“Are you familiar with politics? Are you familiar with the President’s No. 2 man? You’re familiar with him resigning based on him using, maybe what we’d call a dating service? Maybe he’s hanging out with hoes that we mention in the music. If that doesn’t make you aware of a situation that exists….“Music is a mirror, and hip hop is a reflection of the environment that we grew up in. It’s the harsh realities that end up in the music. If I ask you to paint a picture of the American flag and not use the color red, you’re gonna have a difficult time. To capture what we try to capture in the art form, I’m sure some conservative Americans can’t [identify] with it because of their lifestyle and the way they’ve actually been brought up, and they haven’t been exposed to those realities.”

“Well Master P doesn’t sell CDs anymore,” 50 said calmly, which caused the room full of reporters to burst out laughing. “You can tell him I said it. Cameras is rollin’ right? …‘Curtis,’ June 26.”

Quote of The Day: NY Times

Posted by Bossip Staff

New York Times discussing Akon and suggesting Verizon has a double-standard:

Many music fans know that Pete Wentz, the bassist for the rock band Fall Out Boy, found himself overexposed last year when sexually explicit pictures of him surfaced on the Internet. Many also know that Keith Urban, the country superstar, recently endured a stint in rehab. Akon’s raunchy onstage dancing with a teenager concerned Verizon. Despite the bad publicity, both acts have received a marketing push from Verizon, through promotions as “featured” artists on its mobile network or elsewhere.

Quote of The Day: Akon

Posted by Bossip Staff

Akon in a recent press release:

"First, and most important to me, I want to sincerely apologize for the embarrassment and any pain I've caused to the young woman who joined me on-stage, her family and the Trinidad community for the events at my concert in Port of Spain on April 12th. It was never my intention to embarrass or take advantage of my fans in any way, especially those under the age of 18. That is why we tried to make sure that the club did not admit anyone under 18 in the audience. Somehow, that standard was not met.

Again, I apologize to those concerned and to all my fans and I pledge to all that we will strive to make sure this type of incident does not happen again."

Quote of The Day: Snoop Dog

Posted by Bossip Staff

Snoop responding to Imus-related criticism regarding the women in his videos:

Who's to say that these women in videos are ho's? They are classy women, and if you really try to mack to them, they'll tell you, "Well, I have a man" or "I'm not into that" or "I don't do that." Not every girl in the videos has sex with the rappers or lays out her body and does whatever the rapper says. A lot of these women do this as a means of modeling or being appreciated for their looks.

"The reality is in relation to this man, that he was given a warning the last time, he has a whole string of convictions, and, just two weeks ago I was told he was convicted on a number of charges again and sentenced to three years' imprisonment on two, and three years' imprisonment on another, with five years' probation and a suspended sentence," Mr Andrews told 2GB.

"He has been denied entry into the United Kingdom because he was caught with others causing affray at Heathrow Airport. He doesn't seem the sort of bloke we want in this country."

Quote of The Day: T.I.

Posted by Bossip Staff

T.I. and Tiny were spotted 'making it rain' over the weekend at Body Tap, a strip club in Atlanta. T.I. recently told MTV:

"If you want to fix America, you have to start at George Bush and work your way down - you can't start at hip-hop and work your way up.

"Me, I got children and I'm with my children every day I can be there. They know if they call somebody out there a name, if they disrespect a woman, if they do anything to imitate a 50 Cent or a Snoop Dogg or a T.i. or what they see on Mtv... they gonna have to deal with Daddy. "(Some) parents let their children blame it on hip-hop. I think that's the beginning of the problem, personally. I think hip-hop is being used as the scapegoat."

Quote of the Day: Amerie

Posted by Bossip Staff

Amerie discusses her legs to YOU magazine:

"Oh, I'm very proud of them and I love to show them off. I'm always picking up skirts and thinking shorter, shorter shorter. But I don't like anything hanging out. I don't feel I need to exhibit myself like a piece of meat. I want to be sexy but in a Betty Grable 50s-pin-up rather than a raunchy centrefold kind of way. I wouldn't allow myself to be exploited in that way by anyone. I've got very strong ideas about the way I want to look and act."

"My legs are very important to my career so I'm insuring them. I love dancing as much as I do singing."

I ain't mad at her...she does have some nice a*s legs, but insuring for $2 mil?? I hope she sells a lot of records this time around to pay that premium.

Quote of The Day: G.I. Cho Seung-Hui

Posted by Bossip Staff

The Virginia Tech Killer, G.I. Cho, turned in a disturbing play to his English professor. Students went over each other's plays before final submission. Here is a sample of what Cho turned in, entitled Richard McBeef :

Character: John

"What are you, a Catholic Priest! I will not be molested by anaging balding overweight pedophillic stepdad named Dick! Get your hands off me you sicko! Damn you, you Catholic priest. Just stop it, Michael Jackson. Let me guess, you have a pet named Dick in Neverland ranch and you want me go with you to pet him, right"

Forget a gaydar, what about a "crazy-ar". Cho's steez screams "back the f*ck up". The more I read about this, I know it's Monday morning quarterbacking but he should have been straight-jacketed early on. The professor who read his play was scared to tell him anything in his class.

Imagine that, you're so interrupted, your professor is scared to flunk you. If your student is punking you just by his "look" and his writings, it's time to bring in some help. Students who read his play were also scared to say anything when he was in class.

Cho was "obviously" sick and needed help. A lot of people dropped the ball here. Jesus probably said damn, I can't even take the wheel on this.

Quote of The Day: Snoop Dogg

Snoop talking about the recent Imus drama:

"(Rappers) are not talking about no collegiate basketball girls who have made it to the next level in education and sports. We're talking about hos that's in the 'hood that ain't doing s**t, that's trying to get a n**ga for his money. These are two separate things. First of all, we ain't no old-ass white men that sit up on MSNBC going hard on black girls. We are rappers that have these songs coming from our minds and our souls that are relevant to what we feel. I will not let them muthaf**kas say we are in the same league as him. Kick him off the air forever."

The Barack Obama campaign was forced to distance itself from a sculpture of Obama as a Jesus-messianic figure entitled "Blessing". The creator of the piece says:

"All of this is a response to what I've been witnessing and hearing, this idea that Barack is sort of a potential savior that might come and absolve the country of all its sins," Cordero said. "In a lot of ways it's about caution in assigning all these inflated expectations on one individual, and expecting them to change something that many hands have shaped."

Quote of The Day: Barack Obama

Posted by Bossip Staff

NPR Host Steve Inskeep recently asked Barack Obama "Will you need to dominate (the black) vote in order to win?

Obama: "I will be speaking to themes that are important to that community, but I don't expect to get monolithic African American vote... I think we have some strong candidates in the field and it would be presumptuous of me to assume that people would vote for me simply because of my race."

Recent polls by CNN suggest:

"Whites are more likely than blacks to say America is ready for a black president, which may be part of why much of the African-American community is cool to the presidential candidacy of Sen. Barack Obama."
