Here’s yet another high-profile hip-hop artist set to take on a major role in a blockbuster film:

“Chicago rapper Common has landed a high-profile role in an upcoming new installment of The Terminator franchise of movies. Common, born Lonnie Rashid Lynn, will star in ‘Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins.’

The fourth installment of The Terminator focuses on John Connor, who leads the human race in an epic battle against the machines. Common will star in the movie as a freedom fighter alongside the central character, John Connor, who is being played by actor Christian Bale.

‘I’m not a hip-hop dude who wants to act. I’m an artist,’ Common [said], adding that he has his eyes set on an Oscar Award. ‘The Oscar seems very prestigious,’ Common said. ‘With all due respect to the Grammys, there are more music categories and it’s easier to get a ticket to the show. Also if you look at it as someone coming from Chicago, there are only so many black artists who receive Oscars.’”

Sounds like he thinks he may actually win an Oscar one day. Hat’s off to Common for dreaming the impossible dream, but with all these hip-hop artists crossing over to the big screen, the average black actor is left by the wayside.

Mya Broadway gig is on hold because of a broken foot:

Mya’s Broadway dreams have taken a big hit – she has been forced to postpone her debut in “Chicago” with a broken foot. The Grammy Award-winning star was slated to begin a nine-week run as Velma Kelly in the hit musical on May 12. Producer Barry Weissler says, “Speaking for the entire Chicago creative team, we all wish her a speedy recovery, and look forward to experiencing her portrayal of Velma Kelly as soon as possible.”

Some people just have the worst luck, we wish her a speedy recovery. Poor thang.

Tia Mowry has been made an honest woman by her fiance Cory Hardrict:

The two were married at the Four Seasons Resort the Biltmore Santa Barbara in front of 170 guests. Mowry walked down the aisle to a live performance by R&B singer Kenny Lattimore, who sang “For You.”

“You can tell they’re really in love,” says wedding planner Robyn Goldberg of the newlyweds. “[Hardrict] wanted the wedding to be her dream come true.”

Congrats to them. They look like such a nice wholesome couple. We wish them the best.

MJ must be giddy than a mf. The judge squashed that gold-digger’s extortion efforts:

“A woman must abide by a previous restraining order to avoid contact with former NBA star Michael Jordan and stop using litigation regarding the order to claim he fathered her child.

Miceli [the gold-digger] has argued that the restraining order prevents her from negotiating a child-support settlement with Jordan. But Sperling told the court there will be no settlement discussions because Jordan didn’t father her child.”

This trick it nuts. Looks like her dreams of a big pay off have been destroyed. SMH at these unhinged heffahs using their kids as collateral.

Mary found her dream home while house hunting recently:

“Grammy winner Mary J. Blige plunked down $12.3 million in cash for a Saddle River, N.J., mansion, ‘She fell in love with this one,’ a source said of Blige, who checked out several houses in the swanky area before settling on the 18,250-square-foot dream pad.”

$12.3 million in cash?? Just is case you were wondering, we now know those pockets are beyond phat. Her stack game is definitely on point.

In case you ever wondered exactly what they are all doing now, here is a bit from a New York Post article that pretty much states that the Jacksons are a bunch of broke asses:

Marlon Jackson, 51, an original Jackson Five member who stocks shelves at a Vons supermarket in San Diego, had to temporarily move into an extended-stay hotel.

Randy, 46, does odd jobs, including fixing cars in a Los Angeles garage owned by a family friend. He recently claimed Michael was going to give him $1.7 million – “a pipe dream,” said another brother last week.

Jackie, 56, the oldest and most debonair of the brothers, is struggling to manage his son Siggy’s aspiring rap career after an Internet clothing business startup and attempts to produce music failed.

Jermaine, 54, shuttles back and forth from his girlfriend’s home in Ventura County, Calif., to his parents’ mansion in Encino, where Jackie and Randy still bunk.

Tito, 55, is the only brother still making music, but it’s a meager living. The guitarist fronts a blues and jazz band that plays small venues and nets him $500 and $1,500 per occasional gig – a far cry from the days when the Jacksons could pull in 50,000 people at $30 a ticket. Continue »

Bishop Don “magic” Magic is a new member of the save Britney Spears coalition and here what he has to say to reach out to her:

Mariah Carey defends her ditzy image in Allure Magazine:

She’s known as a ditzy diva, but Mariah Carey says she considers herself more of a “freakin’ prude. It’s a dichotomy, I understand,” the 37-year-old bombshell singer tells Allure magazine. “I understand that people think I’m a ditzy moron.”

For ditzy, she’s doing well since she notes: “I have three personal assistants just to keep up with my schedule.” The once-married superstar, who has been romantically linked to Yankees captain Derek Jeter and rapper Eminem, said fans would be mistaken if they think she has loose morals. She insists she’s never had a one-night stand.

“I’m Mary Poppins: I’m what the buttoned-up girls are supposed to be.”

Well frolicking around in skimpy little clothes and singing about daydreams, rainbows, and butterflies and you’re damn near pushing 40 doesn’t help that cause.

Young Jeezy is granting wishes with his “Make Your Dreams Come True” contest for a mother in North Carolina who has asked for a wheelchair accessible van to help her with her son who has cerebral palsy.

We gotta give to Jeezy on this on this one. It’s good to hear that he’s giving back vs. pushing yay on the corner.

Rihanna’s dad speaks about the time he was caught smoking rocks among other things:

“I turned and looked Rihanna in the eye and instantly came back down from the high I was on. I saw her run for her mother, ask her something and then they both started to cry. I had no idea she had been watching. It was the lowest point – life just stopped and I realized what a fool I had been.”

When the Sunday Mirror tracked down the father-of-five in Bridgetown, Barbados, he was hawking tacky toys, perfume and household items from the boot of a battered Nissan car. Despite his daughter’s millions, he never asks for a penny and insists he’s happy in his work, which earns him around £250 (about $492 US dollars) for a seven-day week. He said: “The only thing I want is to be a part of her life. I have had her forgiveness, which you can’t put a price on, and I would never dream of asking her for a dollar.”

We’re glad he has gotten his life together, and doesn’t try to cake his daughter out of her dough like some parents do.  Ain’t nothing wrong with pushing random toys and trinkets out of the trunk of a Nissan.  At least it’s honest work.
