*Gives Sarah Palin and Karl Rove the side-eye*

President Obama, whose citizenship and religion have been questioned, is picking up some interesting defenders on those issues.

“Those are distractions,” Palin said yesterday in New York. “What we’re concerned about is the economy. And we’re concerned about the policies coming out of (Obama’s) administration.”

The questions about Obama’s birth certificate and the claims that he is secretly a Muslim are “annoying,” Palin added, in another sign that Republicans in general are becoming increasingly uneasy about the more extreme claims regarding the president.

“Let’s just stick with what really matters,” Palin said.

Palin’s comments came after former George W. Bush political adviser Karl Rove urged Republicans to distance themselves from conspiracy theorists, whether they involve Obama or others.

”Within our party, we’ve got to be very careful about allowing these people who are the birthers and the 9/11-deniers to get too high a profile and say too much without setting the record straight,” Rove said on Fox News.

There seems to be a rising sentiment among Republicans that the “birthers” are hurting their party.

“Barack Obama is a citizen of the country,” said Rep. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., speaking on CNN. “We ought to get off this kick. There are plenty of differences we have with the president between Republicans and Democrats than to spend time on something like this.”

PALIN: The biggest mistake made was that I could have called more shots on this: the opportunities that were not seized to speak to more Americans via media. I was not allowed to do very many interviews, and the interviews that I did were not necessarily those I would have chosen. But I was so thankful to have the opportunity to run with John McCain that I was not going to argue with the strategy decisions that some of his people were making regarding the media contacts?

But if I would have been in charge, I would have wanted to speak to more reporters because that’s how you get your message out to the electorate.

Sarah Palin, STFU. The biggest mistake they made was underestimating Barack Obama’s mass appeal. Adding you to the ticket was a close second.

Oprah visited Ed Lover’s Morning Show on Power 105.1 today to discuss the risk she took in endorsing Obama.

“If I had not come out for Barack Obama when I did, I would have lost a piece of my soul.”

She also addressed the ridiculous hate calls her staff received after denying Sarah Palin a spot on her show. “They had never been called so many N-words so many times. It was bad. Like, go back to Africa kind of bad. We’re going to lynch you bad”

Local Yokel Sarah Palin and Joe Biden duked it out at last night’s one and only vice presidential debate. Ms. I-can-see-Russia-from-my-house attempted to dismiss the fact that the republicans are directly responsible for the the no-end-in-sight war and the financial turmoil over here. She said:

“Enough is enough with looking backward and playing the blame game,” Palin said in response to a question about the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. “There’s a time, too, when Americans are gonna say, ‘Enough is enough,’ with your ticket constantly looking backwards and pointing fingers and doing the blame game. There have been huge blunders in the war, there have been huge blunders throughout this administration, as there are with any administration, but for a ticket that wants to talk about change and looking into the future, there’s just too much finger-pointing backwards to ever make us believe that that’s where you’re going.”

Bidden hit back hard, splaying the facts as such:

It was two Mondays ago John McCain said at 9 o’clock in the morning that the fundamentals of the economy were strong,” Biden said. “Two weeks before that, he said George – we’ve made great economic progress under George Bush’s policies. Nine o’clock, the economy was strong. Eleven o’clock that same day, two Mondays ago, John McCain said that we have an economic crisis. That doesn’t make John McCain a bad guy, but it does point out he’s out of touch.”
