President Obama made sure he was gonna get what was coming to him by taking care of business early for his boo this Valentine’s Day:

Obama continues to make history:

Prominent Chicago businesswoman Desiree Rogers will be named the White House social secretary, according to a series of news reports. The 49-year-old Harvard MBA will be the first African-American to hold the post.

Rogers, 49, is a friend of Michelle and President-elect Barack Obama’s, and a leader in Chicago corporate and civic circles; her appointment signals that the first couple consider the job crucial to how they introduce themselves to the country and the globe. She was a major fundraiser for Obama.

According to news reports, Barack Obama will also introduce his economic team later today. He’s doing us proud. Obama done swooped down and grabbed the reigns like a true maverick. Lawd knows we need the change – in every way.

And he still makes time for us regular folk. Dig Obama during a recent visit to Manny’s Coffee Shop & Deli in Chicago.

First Family Picks School for Sasha and Malia

Michelle and Barack have selected an elite private school in DC for their beautiful daughters:

There were obvious reasons for the Obamas to pick Sidwell Friends for their daughters Sasha and Malia. As the school that educated Chelsea Clinton, Al Gore III and the Nixon girls, it understands the unique personal and security needs of prominent children. It provides a first-rate education on two well-equipped campuses. Nearly four in 10 students are children of color. But the choice makes sense at a philosophical level as well, because of how Quakers view the challenge of shaping children into socially responsible and spiritually aware adults.

We will never get tired of the Obamas, yeah, we are a little drunk on the First Family. Pic of the Sidwell Friends school below.

Here is the Man that has the entire World on Lock right now on the cover of December’s GQ Magazine. The Magazine announced Obama as “The Man of the Year”.

Some women should hold a strike on sex until your man cops that “Obama swag”. Barack and Michelle are the “new cool”.

Here’s the First Family on the cover of Jet magazine. Don’t you wish Bush and his whole family could be crated and dropped off in the middle of Iraq and President Obama could just start today?

Check out another Obama cover, a beautiful oil painting of First Lady Michelle and Sasha Obama which is on display at The New Museum on the Lower East Side of NYC and one more of our first family.

Speaking of NYC, see hundreds of people actually burst into an improptu singing of the national anthem in downtown Manhattan’s Union Square as Obama was announced president when you… Continue »

A Message from The Bossip Editorial Staff

Starting in 2007, our editorial team decided that we would put the weight of our website which attracts over 1 million unique visitors a month behind a special transformational figure, Barack Obama. We were particularly attracted to what symbolism he and Michelle represented to the world and in particular, Black America.

It’s time for a change in the way we think about ourselves, our responsibility for our own success, and the way we look at the opportunities that exist in the world. We hope that a Barack Obama presidency will kill the dated and bankrupt “Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton” political thinking in Black America and replace it with something more in line with the times and cultural dynamics in which we live.

You won’t see a celebrity at the top of Bossip for the next 2 days. It’s all about Barack and Michelle.

We want everyone to post if they voted, where they voted, and what this election means to them.

A recent analysis by the Associated Press suggest Obama is going to split the old man’s wig and do it “to the white meat” on Tuesday:

Barack Obama has pulled ahead in enough states to win the 270 electoral votes he needs to gain the White House — and with states to spare — according to an Associated Press analysis that shows he is now moving beyond typical Democratic territory to challenge John McCain on historically GOP turf.

Even if McCain sweeps the six states that are too close to call, he still seemingly won’t have enough votes to prevail, according to the analysis, which is based on polls, the candidates’ TV spending patterns and interviews with Democratic and Republican strategists. McCain does have a path to victory but it’s a steep climb: He needs a sudden shift in voter sentiment that gives him all six toss-up states plus one or two others that now lean toward Obama.

Don’t get too excited, a lot of white folks will pull back at the last minute out of fear and racism when it’s time to vote. We need everyone to go out full blast and go out there and ride for Barack and Michelle, ride for your own future.

Barrack Obama issued a statement regarding these horrific crimes that have happened to the Hudson family:

“Michelle and I were absolutely heartbroken to learn about this unimaginable tragedy and we want Jennifer to know that she is in our thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time,” the Illinois senator said. “We also pray for the swift and safe return of her young nephew.”

We all are praying for the return of  little Julian King and our prayers are with Jennifer and her family during this trying time.

You can expect multiple surprises when you watch the 2008 BET Hip Hop awards on Oct 23rd, 2008. Well, they might not be surprises anymore but you know you want that exclusive. Bossip staff was there for the barrage of bling, Obamania, and skankocity that was this year’s hip hop awards show.

Check the recap:

Ludacris and TI opened the show with their new song, “Wish you would.”

We told you that T-pain and his vocoder had to host because Katt Williams was ganked up by one-time. For what, you ask? Stay tuned…. During his opening monologue, T-Pain said, “I got a call around 4am this morning asking if I could host the show.” The circus ape was actually quite hilarious and even did a segment with his beloved vocoder where the machine referred to itself as “Ike” and T-Pain as “Tina.”

In case you fell asleep under a rock, here are some some photos of the show for your viewing pleasure. Continue »

From Our Editors

michelleobama9.jpg

Back in 2007 our editors took notice of a special and gifted individual who had the potential to become the next President of the Free World. We decided early on that we would go full blast and put our site behind Barack Obama. Although we believe America and the entire world needs Barack Obama, our people in particular are in desperate need to see a force of change. If our communities had more Barack and Michelle’s out there, where would we be? If you are not feelin’ his politics and question whether the change you seek is really possible in America, the symbolism and principles (strong family, hard work, self-responsibility, intellectualism) he and Michelle represent alone to our youth is worth your vote. .

Although negroes such as Jesse Jackson and Robert Johnson and some racist white folks want to cut off Obama’s nuts, its our generation’s responsibility to get out there in battleground states such as Ohio, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia to pull him over the top. Our ancestors will be watching on November 4th to see if you took 5 minutes out of your day to ride for something other than yourself.

If our country doesn’t elect Obama on November 4th, we deserve to go into another Great Depression.

Click here to register to vote today. Stay tuned for more information on the Bossip election party the night of November 4 in the ATL!

Oprah Barack Obama

Many were amazed by Barack Obama’s speech last night, Oprah especially:

“I cried my eyelashes off,” she said in the bowels of Invesco Field, moments after Obama accepted the nomination for president before an estimated 84,000 people. “I think it’s the most powerful thing I have ever experienced,” she added, calling Obama’s words “transcendent.” On the 45th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I have a Dream Speech,” Winfrey compared Obama’s words to those of the civil-rights leader, Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln.

“He’s not an African-American candidate,” she said. “He’s a candidate for Americans.” Winfrey threw her support behind Obama early — even before the Democratic primaries got under way last year. She’s stayed active since, hosting rallies and fundraisers that even Obama has acknowledged have given him a boost.

Tyra’s Two Cents

Tyra Banks on Barack Obama:

“When Barack won the nomination, I just started bawling,” confesses Tyra. “I started calling all these people, and everybody was talking to me like I was crazy. They’re like, ‘Well, he hasn’t won yet,’ but I’m like, ‘Yes, he has, because he’s gotten this far.’ I think he gives everybody so much hope. What gives me tears is if Barack Obama wins, kids are going to say a black man can be President too.”
