Ex-NAACP Leader Calls Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, “Race Hustlers”

The furor over the shooting of Florida teen Trayvon Martin is being “exploited” by the likes of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton to “racially divide the country,” a civil-rights leader charged yesterday.

Martin’s “family should be outraged at the fact that they’re using this child as the bait to inflame racial passions,” the Rev. C.L. Bryant, a former NAACP leader, said of the 17-year-old hoodie-wearing black youth who was shot dead by a mixed white-Latino neighborhood-watch volunteer.

The pastor accused Jackson and Sharpton — who yesterday organized a thousands-strong protest in Sanford, Fla., where the shooting occurred last month — of “acting as though they are buzzards circling the carcass of this young boy” in an interview with The Daily Caller, a news Web site.

Bryant, the past president of the NAACP chapter in Garland, Texas, called Jackson and Sharpton “race hustlers” for inserting themselves into the drama.

Clearly, Mr. Bryant is less than impressed with his fellow Black leaders.

Former NAACP leader Bryant said the rallies organized by Sharpton and Jackson suggest there is an epidemic of “white men killing black young men” while ignoring much more prevalent black-on-black crime.

“The epidemic is truly black-on-black crime,” he said. “The greatest danger to the lives of young black men are young black men.”

Bryant said he wants to see protests about those problems.

“Why not be angry about the wholesale murder that goes on in the streets of Newark and Chicago?” he asked. “Why isn’t somebody angry about that 6-year-old girl who was killed on her steps last weekend in a cross fire when two gang members in Chicago start shooting at each other? Why is there no outrage about that?”

Bryant then goes on to rip President Barack Obama a new azzhole too.

He told the Web site that they will “turn this evolving tragedy of this young man into fodder to say . . . ‘If you don’t re-elect [President] Obama, then you will have unbridled events or circumstances like this happening in the streets to young men wearing hoodies.’ ”

He also blasted Obama for his “nebulous statement” last week in which he said, “If I had a son, he’d look
like Trayvon.”

“What does that mean?” Bryant asked. “What was the purpose in that?”

Does Rev. Bryant have a valid point? Have black folks been taking advantage of this tragedy in order to fuel their own selfish agendas???

A day after a Huffington Post blogger and NYPD gadfly Len Levitt wrote a post alleging that the New York City Police Department planted spies inside the Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network headquarters in Harlem, Sharpton has threatened to sue the city.

According to Levitt, the NYPD also has allegedly tried in the past to discredit Sharpton by spreading rumors that he is gay.

In the post, Levitt, a veteran police reporter and author, alleges that an NYPD informant was inserted inside NAN headquarters to gather information about any large-scale protests being planned in response to the acquittal of police officers involved in the killing of Sean Bell, an unarmed black man who was killed just hours before his wedding.

But perhaps the most shocking claims made in Levitt’s post are those around an NYPD plot to discredit Sharpton by spreading rumors, beginning in the ’80s, that he was homosexual.

According to Levitt, “Two undercover police officers who spied on black protest groups in the 1980s told this reporter in 1998 that the department was so intent on discrediting Sharpton that they were tasked by their superiors to spread rumors that he was homosexual.”

This is some isht they used to do to Malcolm X. The NYPD acts like a bunch of damn crooks sometimes. We hope he sues them and takes all their damn money that they spend shooting unarmed Black kids. SMH.

Al Sharpton is defending Melissa Harris-Perry from the scathing words of Dr. Cornel West in a recent interview with theGrio:

Cornel West and Harris-Perry have disagreed publicly before in their varying assessments of President Barack Obama. West and talk show host Tavis Smiley have consistently been harsh on Obama and what they see as his lack of concern for the black community and the poor.
Harris-Perry’s view of the Obama administration has been more balanced, often based on analysis of process and the structural impediments to the sweeping change that many feel President Obama promised. West sees Harris-Perry, and her MSNBC colleague Reverend Al Sharpton, as conciliators to the administration. He also wonders why a civil rights activist like Sharpton wouldn’t be more harsh in his critique of Obama, questioning why he is so close to the administration.

In an interview with theGrio, Rev. Sharpton responded sternly to the assertion that he and Dr. Harris-Perry were somehow rewarded for their support of the Obama administration with shows on MSNBC. “Rewarded by who?,” Sharpton says. “I don’t know if having access to the Obama administration means that one is rewarded… All of these conspiracy theorists need to check facts more clearly.”
Sharpton also posed this rhetorical question, “[w]ho rewarded Tavis Smiley with his show?… Tavis can have a show [and] that’s fine. But if Dr. [Harris] Perry [and] I have a show all of a sudden it’s some kind of a conspiracy theory?… black people are not that stupid.”

Family and friends of Ramarley Graham marched through the Wakefield section of the Bronx to the 47 Precinct and lit candles to protest the killing of the unarmed teenager last week. A street narcotics team was working the neighborhood when Graham took off and headed home. Surveillance video shows Graham, 18, entering his house on 229th Street at about 3 p.m. Thursday. Moments later narcotics officers arrive, try to kick in the front door, but eventually go in a back entrance. Officer Richard Haste cornered Graham in a second floor bathroom and shot him in the chest. A gun was never found. Only a bag of marijuana was discovered in the toilet. Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said that Haste had ordered Graham to show his hands and then had yelled “Gun, gun, gun,” according to the cop’s partner. The NYPD placed Haste and his supervisor, Sgt. Scott Morris, on modified duty during the investigation of the shooting.

An angry crowd protesting police treatment of minorities gathered Monday outside of the Bronx residence where an unarmed teen was fatally shot by cops last week.

Ramarley Graham, 18, was killed by narcotics detectives who followed him as he fled into his parents’ Williamsbridge apartment. He was in the bathroom when he was shot once in the upper portion of his chest.

About 500 demonstrators attended the rally and called for an end to police brutality.

“We are human beings. Stop treating us like animals,” Frank Graham, the slain teen’s father, told the crowd. “My son did nothing wrong. I want justice for my son, my baby.”

Juanita Young, 57, the mother of Malcolm Ferguson, a 23-year-old who was killed during a struggle with a narcotics officer in 2000, joined in the rally to show solidarity with Graham’s parents.

“My heart went out to the mother here. It brought back so many bad memories,” said Young, whose wrongful death suit led a Bronx jury to award her $10.5 million.

“They keep killing innocent young men. It just hurts to see the abuse of power. There are no words to describe our pain as mothers.”

After gathering outside of the E. 229th St. apartment building where the Grahams live, the boisterous crowd marched to the local 46th Precinct stationhouse while chanting: “NYPD, KKK, how many kids did you kill today?”

They ratcheted up the rhetoric with placards that read: “Judgement Day for NYPD child killer,” and also called for the resignation of Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly.

Police posted ten officers to guard the stationhouse door as the crowd filled up the block.

Graham’s sister, Leona Verga, spoke into a megaphone and remembered her brother as a “well-respected” young man. She pleaded with other young black men to stop using he “n-word” and letting their pants sag.

“If you all continue with these shenanigans against each other, we all are going to be targets and there is going to be no one left,” she said.

The cops involved in Graham’s death have been taken off the streets and given administrative duties while prosecutors investigate the shooting, according to a spokesman for the Bronx District Attorney.

This is just disgusting!!!!! Al Sharpton and Rachel Maddow had an explosive argument with former Newt Gingrich spokesman Rick Tyler about the candidate’s approach to race on Tuesday night, in which Tyler himself used some very suspect theories about African Americans:

TYLER: More people are on food stamps today because of Barack Obama, they fail in the schools, you can ask Al Sharpton, the Democrats have failed in the public schools with the African-Americans, they abort their babies, they’ve done nothing to lift them out of poverty.

And then he doubled down a few seconds later.

98 percent of African-Americans vote Democrat, okay? What have they gotten for it? Poor schools, poor neighborhoods, crime-ridden neighborhoods, a destruction of the family, and the Democrats want to abort their babies. That’s their position. I’m not going to defend that.

Wow. Got that, folks? If you’re a Democrat, you want to abort black babies. Really?!??!?? This is just disgusting for ANYONE to say!
