Quote of the Day

Posted by Bossip Staff

Jay-Z was one of 40 New Yorkers interviewed for Time Out New York magazine:

You’re the only rapper on this list. We were considering Nas but have this 13-year rule: People on this list had to have had an impact in the last 13 years. And Illmatic was 1994. Should we have included him?

Jay-Z: Ah, wow! [Laughs] That’s a tough question. [Pauses] Yeah, only because of the impact of that album, when it’s considered one of the best albums ever created, you have to document that.

How about Kanye? Has he earned it yet?

Jay-Z: He’s from Chicago, but he’s close. I don’t know if he’s had that one album that’s moved the entire culture, but he’s hit it three times in a row. He’ll be on every list one day.

Are you guys really teaming up for Blueprint 3?

Jay-Z: Yeah, actually. We’re partners right now. Starsky and Hutch right now.

And B? What was your first meeting with your wife like?

Jay-Z: I can’t answer that question. [Laughs] Come on now.

Seriously? You guys wrote a song about being in love.

Jay-Z: I’m actually pretty open, especially in the music. And in conversation, when I get to know people. But there’s one side of my life I tend to keep quiet. You have to have some time of sanity. You can’t live with everything out there. You have to have sanctuary.

Damn, they didn’t have to do our boy Nas like that…

Camel Adds to His Long List of Business Ventures

Posted by Bossip Staff

Mr. Camel, once again, has some sh*t to be smiling about:

Jay-Z has reportedly launched a new label, adding to his long list of businesses. This one is called StarRoc and was formed with producers Stargate. According to overseas media, Stargate is a Norwegian duo consisting of Tor Erik Hermansen and Mikkel S. Eriksen, both of which have produced for several superstar artists, specifically crafting Beyonce’s hit “Irreplaceable” and Ne-Yo’s “So Sick.” Reports indicate that the producer duo have relocated their studio to Jay-Z’s Manhattan-based Roc The Mic studios.

Jigga Man is apparently done with the fun and games. Its not as if he doesn’t have enough money already, but we love to see people make smart decisions with their dough, and put even more of a gap between them and regular folk. Gitcha paper, boo boo.

The Married Couple’s Evening Out

Posted by Bossip Staff

Beyonce and Jay-Z attended the New Yorkers for Children Gala last night in the Big Apple. It’s really nice to see the married couple out and about for good causes and wearing their wedding rings and all, but what the f*ck is really good with Camel rockin that sunglasses at night steez as of late. We mean, come on now, it’s a Children’s Gala for chrissakes.

Kings on the Scene

Heavyweights such as Jay-Z, Serena Williams, Jason Kidd, Chris Paul, Carmelo Anthony, etc. came out to a cocktail party hosted by LeBron James and Ralph Lauren for The Lebron James Family Foundation at the Ralph Lauren store in NYC.  It’s good to see everyone get together for a good cause.  Serena is looking pretty darn tough these days.

Beyonce finally wears her rock to Fashion Rocks, how appropriate:

Beyonce Knowles finally showed off her wedding ring on the red carpet for Fashion Rocks at Radio City Music Hall on Friday night. The 18-carat, emerald-cut diamond is valued at more than $5 million, jeweler Lorraine Schwartz told People magazine. Knowles flashed the bling on the red carpet and again while performing a tribute to Etta James. Jay-Z, who did not attend the event, wore his wedding ring in public for the first time on July 29, but usually opts to leave it at home.

There you have it stans. Happy??

Camel Responds To All The Crying

Posted by Bossip Staff

Hov responds to the scorned broads crying over him:

“As far as Foxy or Teairra Marì, these are people that I have given chances to. It’s understandable that they would be upset, but you got to look at it from my point of view as well. I gave Teairra Marì the same shot I gave Rihanna. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.”

“You know that stuff is going to happen, eventually it’s going to happen. What I’m happy about is, that no matter what people say, no one has ever said that I am dishonest or that I have taken one dime from them…I’ve never cheated anyone out of a dime. No one’s ever said that, right?”

Hmmm. We guess he means Roc-a-fella/Def Jam people, because those 40/40 club workers got cheated like some sh*t.

Ne-Yo 001

Ne-Yo can’t handle his liquor:

I learned the hard way that me and liquor do not mix. I’m not the violent one, I am just the one throwing up … I went out with Jay-Z once. Shots came around but around the fifth I noticed that no one else was drinking them … Nine later and I was throwing up outside of Jay-Z’s car … He threatened to send me the cleaning bill if I was sick inside.

What a little gaylord…

Business Camel To Sell Vegas 40/40

Posted by Bossip Staff

Jay-Z is capitalizing on his latest business venture:

Hip-hop artist and businessman Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter and his partners said Wednesday they are selling their 40/40 Club in Las Vegas for an undisclosed amount. The 24,000-square-foot sports bar and lounge in The Palazzo and Casino will not operate under the 40/40 brand, as the sale is for the lease and not the naming rights, the partners said. No reason was given for the sale of the Vegas branch of the club franchise.

“The sale is a great business decision; we are delighted. We look forward to expanding the brand even further to Chicago and Tokyo,” Carter said in a statement. Carter and his partners said they plan to open 40/40 clubs in Chicago, Tokyo and Macau in the next 12 months.

“Undisclosed Amount” means he sold that ish for mad paper. Hova’s definitely on top of his business game.

Beyonce and Jay-Z had a dinner date last night, and Bey is looking awfully happy about something. Probably can’t wait to get back to the crib and have Hova rip off those granny chains and beat that thang up something proper.  Good for them.

Buttery Remixes

jayz butter

Camel offers exclusive remixes for clubs that don’t out him:

HIP-hop mogul Jay-Z is paying respect to the folks who protect his privacy. The notoriously stealthy rapper penned a re-mix of “Blow the Whistle” that gives a shout-out to his favorite nightlife impresario, Richie Akiva. Jay-Z includes the lyrics, “When I’m not at Butter, I’m at 1Oak,” referring to two of Akiva’s Manhattan hotspots. The re-mix is played only at 1Oak – a club that never alerts the media when Jay and his wife, Beyoncé, show up there to party.

Whoopty-freakin doo, not too exciting, but this just reminded us of those funny pics a while back with that Richie Akiva character holding up a slizzard ass Hova. Those were classic. Click Here to refresh your memory.

Bugsy and Camel top Forbes list of “Hip-Hop’s Cash Kings”:

It’s been some year for Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter. In the past 12 months, the Brooklyn, N.Y.-born hip-hop demigod released a platinum album, signed a 10-year, $150 million deal with concert promoter Live Nation and tied the knot with longtime girlfriend Beyoncé Knowles. Quite a record. But only good enough for a silver medal. While Jay-Z topped’s inaugural Hip-Hop Cash Kings list of the top-earning people in the business last year, in 2008 he cedes the throne to Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, who raked in $150 million over the past 12 months–almost twice what Jay-Z made. Fu*K Bit*hes, Get Money

Camel is laughing his way straight to the bank:

JAY-Z is about to get richer. Las Vegas spies said the hip-hop mogul’s in talks with the Las Vegas Sands Corp. – owners of the Venetian and the Palazzo – to sell them a 50 percent stake in his sports club, 40/40, for $44 million. An insider added, “That will make the 40/40 club in Vegas the largest sports booking operation. People can gamble both at the tables and on games. The Sands will also have the right to open 40/40 clubs in London and across Europe.”
