Police say thieves smashed their way into an Atlanta pharmacy and made off with hair weaves and cigarettes.

Authorities say the break-in happened shortly before 5 a.m. Friday at a CVS pharmacy on Peachtree Street near Sixth Street in the city’s midtown area. A brick was tossed through the front glass door.

Police tell The Atlanta Journal-Constitution the thieves apparently took hair weaves and cigarettes. A portion of the store appeared to have been ransacked.

Thieves in search of expensive hair extensions have targeted beauty shops and other businesses that carry such items in recent months.

First of all, what kind of weave is CVS selling??? And secondly, when did Indian Hair become the new crack?

Philadelphia 76ers reserve guard Lou Williams has crafted a reputation for himself as a gunslinger. On Monday night, for example, Williams hit for 25 points, including three impressive 3-pointers, while taking 17 shots and dishing two assists in a loss to the Portland Trail Blazers.

This week, though, Williams found himself on the other end of a real barrel.

On Saturday, Williams posted a cryptic message on Twitter. “Almost got robbed today,” Williams wrote. “But homie said he recognized me and the good I’ve done for his hood so that made him change his mind. Wow.”

On Monday, Williams explained the situation in greater detail to the Philadelphia Daily News, saying that he was confronted by a man who tapped on his car’s window with a gun.
“A guy tried to rob me but decided not to because of whatever I do in the community,” said Williams. “He’s a Lou Williams fan, so he didn’t rob me.”

“There’s crime everywhere,” said Williams. “I was debating whether to pull off to help the guy. The gun was already out. He did all the talking, and we came up with a solution before i could really say much. I treated him to McDonald’s.”

Wow, you would think that being recognized as a famous basketball player would make someone WANT to rob you. We’re glad that it worked out for Lou and the unnamed would-be assailant.

On Sunday evening at 8:37 pm, a man and woman were accosted by a knife wielding suspect inside the gated Irvine Cove Community. The male suspect robbed the couple as they were walking up a stairwell leading from the beach to Riviera Drive. He had them get on the ground and threatened to stab them if they did not comply with his demands. The robber proceeded to take the male victim’s wallet, car keys and iPhone 4s. He told them to stay on the ground as he ran from the area.

The male victim made his way to a neighboring residence and pounded on the door while telling the residents to call 911. Officers arrived a short time later and met with the couple. They described the suspect as wearing a hooded sweatshirt and bandana to cover his face. They last saw him driving away in the victim’s silver 2003 Mercedes Benz C240.

Laguna Beach Dispatchers contacted the Orange County Auto Theft Task Force and notified them of the robbery. The following morning, their investigators located the Mercedes parked in a Costa Mesa alley. While conducting surveillance on the vehicle, they saw a female get into the car and drive to a local hotel (Harbor Bay Inn, Costa Mesa). The female parked the car and went into a room.

Sounds like a terrible night right? Well, it gets worse.

Detectives from the Laguna Beach Police Department responded to the area and located the woman who had moved the car. She was taken into custody for possession of stolen property. They also contacted a male subject who ended up being the suspect that committed the robbery and stole the car. Both of these individuals were arrested yesterday afternoon and booked at the Laguna Beach Police Department.

Through subsequent interviews, the detectives learned that the female robbery victim was actually the person who planned the crime. She had set up the male victim because she thought he might have expensive belongings on him, or inside the car.

She was tracked to Mission Viejo late last evening and found to be in the company of the male victim. Detectives arrested her and notified the male that his girlfriend had actually set him up. He was noticeably shocked at the revelation.

This is really ridiculous…18 years for $94???

A Rock Hill woman will spend the next 18 years behind bars, with no chance at parole, after she robbed a convenience store last August of $94 in cash.

On Friday, a jury found 40-year-old Connie Murray Dumas guilty of armed robbery and possession of a pistol during a violent crime, a release from the 16th Circuit Solicitor’s Office states.

The solicitor’s office says Dumas entered the One Stop convenience store on Albright Road on August 9th, pointed a small automatic pistol at the clerk and demanded money. The robbery was caught on the store’s security camera.

Dumas was able to get away with $94 in cash from the store, the solicitor’s office states, but a witness was able to give police a description of Dumas and her vehicle. She was pulled over a short time later by Rock Hill police.

According to the release, Dumas initially signed a confession, saying she robbed the store because her home was in foreclosure. During the trial, she recanted that confession saying she didn’t commit the robbery because she had “ample available money” in a North Carolina bank account.

Throughout the trial, Dumas maintained that she didn’t have a gun in the store and what was seen on camera was her car keys and cell phone.

Times is hard and weave is in high demand… so these days Beauty Supply stores are getting hit up more often than banks!

Thieves targeting high-dollar hair extensions smashed their way into a southwest Atlanta beauty supply store early Thursday in the second such burglary on the southside in recent weeks. Thursday’s incident happened about 4:30 a.m. at the Beauty Master store at 3031 Headland Drive SW near Greenbriar Parkway, according to Atlanta police.

Store manager Lucien Poko told the AJC that the four burglars who were driving a black Chevrolet Suburban smashed out two front entry doors with a rock and went straight to the display of Remi hair extensions on the wall behind the front counter.

The thieves took dozens of packages of the hair extensions, which Poko said sell for $140 and up. He estimated the total loss at $30,000.

On May 26, thieves rammed a car through the front door of a Clayton County beauty supply store then made off with an estimated $10,000 in hair extensions.

Don Kang, owner of the Beauty Emporium store on Riverdale Road, said the thieves “rammed the front with a car, then they came in and stole all the expensive hair.Four or five guys, wearing gloves and masks. They came in and they were out of here in about a minute.”

Kang said Thursday’s burglary is also one of many in recent months at area beauty supply stores.

“The thieves are targeting beauty supplies,” he said. “They’re going after the expensive hair. It’s been happening to a lot of beauty supply [stores].”

And the burglaries aren’t just in metro Atlanta.

The New York Times reported last month that thieves targeting extensions have recently stolen $150,000 in hair from a Houston salon, $90,000 in extensions from a beauty supply store in Chicago and $85,000 in hair from a store in Missouri City, Texas.

Other cities reporting similar thefts include San Diego, San Leandro, Calif., and Dearborn, Mich.

Packages of the most expensive hair type can cost as much as $200 in beauty supply stores, but hair extensions have turned up being sold out of car trunks for as little as $25, the Times said.

The owner of Sunrise Beauty Supply was shot and killed during an apparent robbery late Tuesday morning.

A witness who saw the aftermath from inside a nearby shoe store told police the suspect ran out of Sunrise carrying six bags of hair.

That witness told FOX 2 the suspect, a teenage or twenty something black male in sweat pants, a coat and do-rag, jumped in a four-door, silver Focus being driven by a black female. They both then sped away.

The second photo above is a sketch of the possible suspect being sought by police. He has a tattoo or birthmark over both eyes and some blotches around his cheek area.

Regular customers are shocked and saddened.

“That’s so sad that a man’s life could be taken over six bags of hair,” said Susan Gewarges.

“Suddenly that person’s not there anymore, and you figure all they were really doing was trying to make a living for themselves like the rest of us,” George Johnson said.

Dearborn Police are investigating and asking that anyone with information to please come forward.

We spoke to the owner’s wife, who is obviously grief stricken. She told us her faith is the only way that she’s going to get through this senseless tragedy.
