Jennifer Hudson’s sister Julia shared a powerful message at a local fashion show recently:

Almost five months to the day her mother, son and brother were killed in Chicago, Julia Hudson made her first public appearance since the tragedy as a model for a local fashion show featuring full-figured women.

The 31-year-old sister of actress-singer Jennifer Hudson said she wants her pride and confidence on stage to send a message of defiance to William Balfour — her estranged husband and suspect in the case.

“You did this to basically kill me,” Hudson told CBS2′s Pamela Jones, referring to Balfour. “In so many words, to take my life, but it was not. And my mother and my brother and my son, they wouldn’t have wanted that. If I was to not be able to function, if I was to not be able to get up, that would mean William and the devil won,” Hudson continued. “They took enough from me. They won’t take nothing else from me. So I have to go on.”

The 27-year-old Balfour is charged in the October killings. He’s pleaded not guilty. After working the runway in a designer gown, Julia Hudson posed for a crowd of hundreds who attended the fashion show at Navy Pier. She said her sister Jennifer has been a source of strength in the past months, and that her recent fashion photo shoot and catwalk appearance is part of her effort to move on.

“To see me standing here, you know, a lot of people wouldn’t be able to stand,” Hudson said. “But as I said before, to see me stand here and to know that you can go on — there is hope.” Dozens of Hudson’s family members attending the fashion event cheered her on as she received an award for turning tragedy to triumph and learning every step of the way.

“We’re here celebrating her, lifting her up and letting her know that we’re all here as a family,” said Julia Hudson’s uncle, Tyron Hudson. Julia’s Grammy-winning sister did not make it to Sunday’s event. But she will be in Chicago April 25-26 for a concert at the Arie Crown Theatre. Julia, meanwhile, returned to her job as a bus driver in January.

That’s a good message for those of us who crumble over the most trivial shyte. If she can get up and keep moving everyday, there’s hope for all of us. In other JHud news, she recently tweeted that she’ll be making an appearance at some point on the new season of American Idol.

William Balfour’s lawyer just abandoned his no good ass:

The lawyer who has been representing William Balfour, the man accused of killing Oscar and Grammy-winning star Jennifer Hudson’s mother, brother and nephew has hit the hills! According to Chicago’s Sun Times, Joshua Kutnick said he believes Balfour is innocent but cannot handle the case any longer.

“It’s the kind of case that involves intense hours,” Kutnick told reporters after speaking with Balfour’s mother. “I was gathering all the resources, but I couldn’t finance it.” Kutnick’s decision is likely to be followed by the court appointing a lawyer from the public defenders office.

Damn. What else does a judge and jury need to know. If this punk’s lawyer bailed, he’s clearly not worth defending.

Jennifer Hudson’s brother-in-law pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges he shot to death the Oscar-winning actress’s mother and brother and the 7-year-old son of his estranged wife.

William Balfour, 27, entered not guilty pleas to first-degree murder and home invasion charges after nodding to members of his family gathered in the last of three Cook County courtrooms he appeared in Tuesday.

We figured this mark ass batch would try to pull this crap. It doesn’t change the fact that he’ll end up on death row or rotting in jail for the rest of his miserable life. SMH.

William Balfour is one step closer to spending the rest of his natural life in the pen:

The man accused of killing Jennifer Hudson’s mother, brother and nephew back on Oct. 24 has been formally indicted on murder and home invasion charges after appearing in Chicago court for a brief hearing this afternoon.

The 27-year-old William Balfour, who along with his attorney continues to deny his involvement in the slayings of 57-year-old Darnell Donerson, 29-year-old Jason Hudson and 7-year-old Julian King, is currently being held without bond on a parole violation at Illinois’ Stateville Correctional Center.

Balfour today was indicted on the same four counts he was formally charged with earlier this month—three counts of first-degree murder and one count of home invasion—thereby alleviating the need for prosecutors to lay out their evidence at a subsequent hearing. They have, however, already put forth their theory on the tragedy.

In addition to the indictment, Balfour’s attorney today requested that his client be transferred to the Cook County Jail in order to be nearer to his family. No decision has yet been made on the request. The next hearing has been set for Jan. 20.

How dare he request being nearer to his family after he destroyed the Hudson’s. We hope he judge and jury puts this cat away post haste.

Evil thug William Balfour will have his day in court:

The man accused of killing actress Jennifer Hudson’s mother, brother and nephew is scheduled to make another court appearance today. William Balfour, 27, is the estranged husband of Hudson’s sister, Julia. Prosecutors allege he killed her family members Oct. 24 in their home in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side because he thought she had a new boyfriend. Slain were Jennifer and Julia’s mother, Darnell Donerson, 57; their brother, Jason, 29, and Julia’s 7-year-old son, Julian King.

In addition to the murder counts, Balfour is charged with home invasion. He is being held without bond. Prosecutors alleged Balfour told a girlfriend the day of the slayings that he killed Donerson and Jason Hudson and later lied to police about his travel that day. His attorney has insisted that there’s no evidence to connect Balfour with the crime.

Why waste the tax payers money? Damn the trial – just throw his troll lookin’ ass in a dark cell and let him rot.
