MMA Champ Tuned Store Clerk Beats Down Robbers
A Texas gas station clerk – armed with some serious fighting skills and fueled by a desire to protect his co-worker – delivered a swift beat-down to two would-be robbers.
Mayura Dissanyake isn’t just a cashier at Fuel Depot in Houston. He is also a five-time national Mixed Martial Arts champion in his home country of Sri Lanka, according to local media.
The semi-professional fighter saw the failed crooks jump from an SUV and attack his co-worker while he was carrying a bag of money from the bank, reported KPRC-TV.
“The first guy I saw, I just kicked him in the face,” he told the local station. “Then I punched the other guy.”
The store’s security cameras caught the ensuing fight in which the suspects retreated back to their getaway car and drove off. But Dissanyake managed to knock one man to the ground with a hook.
His partners in crime sped off and deserted their partner on the ground.
“I just kicked him until he lays down on the floor,” he said. “Until he stopped moving cause I wasn’t sure if he had a knife or a gun so I wanted him to stop moving.”
The man, Odell Mathis, 33, was arrested and charged with robbery with bodily injury. Investigators are withholding his mug shot for the time-being because they suspect him of other similar crimes and want to use it for a photo lineup, the NBC affiliate reported.
Dissanyake has been training in MMA for more than a decade.
No mention of weapons in the article, but if these guys robbed a store bare-handed then they deserve the fade. If they we’re strapped, even more so.
