A List Of Women Killed By Police

In consideration of the senseless deaths of Michael Brown and John Crawford, we’re reflecting on others who were victims of lethal force by law enforcement. The following are 10 black women who lost their lives at the hands of police.


Rekia Boyd Gunned down by an off-duty Chicago police officer


Aiyanna Jones Just 7 years old from Detroit, Michigan, Aiyanna was killed during a mishandled police raid.

Miriam Carey shot 5 times from behind after speeding away from a White House checkpoint


 Yvette Smith shot to death in her home after opening her front door for police officers who were responding to an unconfirmed dispatch

 Pearlie Golden:  Officer Stephen Stem, responding to a 911 call, fatally shot 93-year-old Pearlie Golden at her home

Tarika Wilson  A Lima, Ohio police officer shot and killed a 26-year-old Wilson, and also shot and injured her one-year-old (at the time) son



Shantel Davis: A Brooklyn NYPD detective shot and killed an unarmed Shantel Davis after she ran red lights and crashed a vehicle





What justifies the use of deadly force?


Tyisha Miller:  Shot dead by police officers called by family members who could not wake her as she lay unconscious in a car


 Kathryn Johnston: At 92 Kathryn died in a barrage of police bullets during a botched raid where they burst into her home based on faulty information.







 Gabriella Nevarez Fired on by Sacramento cops during a car chase, Gabby, as called by friends, died on the scene. She had a disagreement with her grandmother and had taken the keys to her car.
