A kid named Kudi has finally made it to the big time as he has signed with Universal Motown:

After the runaway success of his single “Day N Nite” on radio, rapper Kid Cudi announced this week that he has signed a deal with Universal Motown.

“Kid Cudi is at the vanguard of a game-changing new generation of artists,” said Sylvia Rhone, label president. “He crosses musical boundaries with an appeal that goes beyond genre, format, race, language, and culture. Cudi lives easily in the hip-hop, indie rock, pop, and R&B worlds — a diversity that shows in his innovative music and his all-embracing persona.

“He is a born storyteller who brings a positive, life-affirming message to his brilliant lyrical flow and compelling music. There are no clichés in what Cudi does,” he continued.

Cudi is a native to Cleveland, Ohio who now resides in Brooklyn, New York. He released his first mixtape, A Kid Named Cudi, in July 2008 as a free download, leading to an introduction and signing to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music imprint, in turn resulting in Cudi co-writing four tracks on the West’s latest album 808s & Heartbreak — including “Heartless”.

“Cudi is a combination of constant inspiration, struggle, reality and dreams put to melody!” declared Kanye West.

With the new deal in place, the rapper is finishing his debut album, Man on the Moon: The Guardian, slated for late summer.

In addition to signing the deal, Cudi is also launching his own label, Dream On, along with partners Emile and Plain Pat, in a joint venture with Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Music imprint.

While guests and producers are still unconfirmed, Cudi admitted in a blog entry on his website that he’s been working with the likes of Will.i.am, Travis Barker, Wyclef Jean and Snoop Dogg, as well as Kanye.

It’s always good to see a cat have the fruits of his labor be rewarded with something he’s always dreamed of.  Lord knows the rap game needs something to bring it back to life…
