15 People Shot In Miami Nightclub Including Several Children
Up to 100 shots were fired inside a Miami nightclub early Sunday in a shootout that left 15 people wounded, including at least five girls between the ages of 11 and 17.
Police are investigating what led to the incident at 1 a.m. at a club called The Spot — a Caribbean restaurant and bar that received its liquor license in April — that sent patrons scrambling, although a few were too wounded to leave.
A woman who was across the street when the gunfire erupted told The Miami Herald she saw muzzle flashes through the club’s open door and it seemed as if shooters were trading fire.
“Shots were flying everywhere,” the unnamed woman said.
Police arrived at the establishment, which is just steps from Miami-Dade College’s North Campus, to discover a large group of adults and teenagers. A witness said 100 people were inside at the time of the shooting.
“What was very surprising to the responders was that these were kids that were out at 1 o’clock in the morning in a club and this type of violence took place where a bunch of kids were gathering … it’s very disturbing to see that,” Miami Fire Rescue Capt. Ignatius Carroll said.
The victims were between the ages of 11 and 25, including five girls between 11 and 17 years old who had gunshot wounds. A 15-year-old boy is in critical condition, but most others suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
