Keep your eyes on her, ladies and gentlemen. She about to be a big deal.
Gugu Mbatha-Raw Covers ELLE’s 2014 Women Of Hollywood Issue
The star of the upcoming film Beyond The Lights, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, is front-and-center on the new issue of Elle magazine that celebrates “2014 Women In Hollywood”.
Gugu’s was born Gugulethu Sophia Mbatha in Oxford, England, and her first name is a combination of two words which translate to “our pride” in the Africa language of Xhosa.
In Beyond The Lights, she will play the lead as Noni, the superstar chanteuse who is followed by drama.
She says of the role:
One of the things that drew me to the project was the relationship between mother and daughter–that ‘mom-ager’ dynamic–because I grew up with a single mom, though my dad has definitely been in my life a lot. But my mom couldn’t be more different than Minnie Driver’s character. I was the pushy child, the one who wanted to be doing ballet and jazz and tap and everything.
Despite her gorgeous appearance with features that would make a makeup artists swoon, Gugu keeps her ego parked in the back seat with the seat belt securely fastened.
“It’s funny–I never feel like, ‘Oh wow, I’ve made it.’ I’m interested in the journey. I’m interested in the adventure of working with different people, and I guess as soon as you sit on your laurels and go, ‘Well aren’t I great?’–that’s just the beginning of the end.
