Two Men Charged With Raping Teenager At Frat Party

Via NBC News reports:

Two men were arrested and charged with raping a 16-year-old girl at a Johns Hopkins University fraternity party, Baltimore police said Wednesday.

Neither the girl who reported the rape nor the two men arrested — identified by police as Chaz Haggins, 20, and Ethan Turner, 19 — are students or otherwise connected to the university, a school spokesman said. The men are being held without bail, police said.

Johns Hopkins said that it has suspended the fraternity, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, while it investigates what happened, including reports of underage drinking, at the party on the night of Nov. 1. The house is off campus. The girl told police that she did not know the attackers, police said.

Turner maintains his innocence and eagerly awaits his day in court, said his lawyer, Matthew Fraling, who declined further comment. A lawyer for Haggins could not immediately be reached.

Johns Hopkins said in a statement: “The victim in this case continues to be in the hearts and minds of our university community.”

Public attention to college rape has increased since Rolling Stone published a story last month detailing allegations of a gang rape at the University of Virginia. The school president has promised steps to further protect women.

How were these frat party guys charged but at University of Virginia the rapists were not charged or even expelled?
