Ohio Police Officers Caught Sending Racist Texts

Two Ohio cops accused of racist text messages are suspended after an anonymous source shared their phone records.

The messages allegedly shared between 19-year Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office veteran, Capt. Thomas Flanders, and Internal Affairs’ Detective Michael Sollenberger, range from jokes and threats to kill black people.

“There were a couple of text messages that I wasn’t comfortable with as far as safety and the public goes,” Sheriff Phil Plummer said at a press conference earlier this week. “That’s really why they were taken off the department at this time.”

The investigation sparked in August by the Dayton chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People alerted Plummer of the allegation. It’s not known who is responsible for handing over the chat records.

Chapter president Derrick Foward has a binder of papers holding copies of those messages that possibly violate the police agency’s code of conduct even though they were sent on the deputies’ personal cellphones, according to a WHIO-TV report.

Foward stated: “What do apples and black people have in common? They both hang from trees.”

That lil’ joke was just the beginning…

“I hate n—–s. That is all,” wrote one of the officers, but it’s never specified which one. The other cop replied, “Awesome.”

One of the officers even threatened to stab a black person at a local bar, describing the person as a “coon,” Foward said.

Three other officers are being investigated for possible involvement with the questionable speech, but those deputies have not been named and are still on the job, WDTN-TV reported.

The texts shared with Dayton’s civil rights group range from Nov. 2011 to Jan. 2013 and were sent while the two officers were on and off-duty.

Not all cops are bad people, but it’s getting VERY hard to tell the difference nowadays.
