Pine Bros Cough Drop Ads Featuring Waka Flocka Have Been Banned

Inside sources tell us that Pine Bros., the cough drop company that did the Waka Flocka TV spot during the American Music Awards has had their spot banned by CBS and NBC because of its drug inferences. Since then, their Waka Flocka print ad, which shows him pulling down his bottom lip to expose a Pine Bros lip tattoo, is getting banned too. The ad ran in the New Yorker last week and will appear in a number of national magazines this winter, but so far two mainstream magazines have censored the ad and rejected it as “inappropriate”  and “gross.”
Pine Bros owner Rider McDowell believes the suits just don’t like Waka…

Update: Pine Bros owner Rider McDowell sent this quote in response to our story:

To clarify, The SMART suits like Waka. What’s not to like and his following is tremendous and includes cutting edge folk from every demographic and background. Pine Bros is very proud of this young man and of our association with him!!

What do you think? Are Pine Bros ads being unfairly banned because companies are anti-Waka Flocka, or are these corporations in the right to ban the ad because of the association with drugs? If you think about it, the print ad doesn’t have those same connotations.
