The Gullah community has been shrinking over the years but now a new website targeting Black tourists hope to lure more travelers to the Gullah region. Despite having been around for hundreds of years, the Gullah are still a mystery for many. The Gullah people are the descendants of the slaves who toiled away on the rice plantations in South Carolina and Georgia. Today, they have retained much of their African-based culture.
