Joan Rivers’ $28 Million Manhattan Home Hits Market For Sale

Joan Rivers said it was where Marie Antoinette would have lived – if she had been a New Yorker with a truck load of dough.

The comedienne’s opulent Manhattan house, a palatial penthouse just off Fifth Ave. at 1 E. 62nd St., has come on the market for $28 million.

The property occupies the entire top three floors of a seven-story, turn-of-the-19th-century Gilded Age mansion built in 1903 by millionaire John Drexel. The home was converted into condos in the 1930s.

Rivers bought the apartment in 1988 and completed a painstaking renovation of the extravagant, ornate home, which still has some of its original period details. She lived there until her death last year. She died unexpectedly in September while undergoing a routine endoscopy.

Real estate broker Leighton Candler of the Corcoran Group is marketing the home on behalf of Rivers’ estate, which is managed by her daughter Melissa Rivers.

The centerpiece of the 5,100-square-foot, four-bedroom penthouse is the entertaining spaces, which include a huge former ballroom and music room. The two Louis XIV-inspired rooms have soaring 23-foot ceilings, crystal chandeliers and antique columns. The spaces can accommodate a whopping 125 people.

R.I.P. Joan Rivers, we have no idea where she are now, but she certainly had Heaven on Earth.
