Zendaya Responds To Giuliana Rancic’s “Fashion Police” Criticism Of Her Dreadlocks
These E! correspondents keep losing with their red-carpet criticism. The Fashion Police are known to toe the line with their fashion criticism…but did they take it too far this time?
While E! News host Giuliana Rancic was critiquing Zendaya’s faux-loc’d look at last night’s Academy Awards red carpet, she made an offhand comment that insinuated that dreadlocks, a common natural style for Black hair, are only for stinky stoners:
As soon as Zendaya caught wind of Giuliana’s insensitive remarks, she crafted a response urging people to think a little harder about how they stereotype Black hair. Hit the flip to see what she had to say.
Well Zendaya definitely didn’t hold back. Naturally, Giuliana apologized the moment she caught wind of how offensive her comments were (and was of course dragged down the street, around the corner, and through the gutter via Twitter and Instagram):
Hmmm…what do you think of her apology? Whether she genuinely didn’t realize how her comment would come off or not — we bet she’ll think twice before going in on hair she doesn’t understand.
Do you think it’s a fashion commentator’s place to even TRY to critique naturally-styled Black hair on the red carpet? Should they just stay in their lane and focus on the clothes?
