Michael Jordan Lands On Forbes Billionaire List
Money. Makin’. Mike.
Michael Jordan just had his name added to another impressive list.
The former Bulls star, who has NBA record-career averages for regular-season scoring (30.12) and playoff scoring (33.45), has been included on Forbes magazine’s billionaires list for the first time.
MJ had a net worth of $1 billion, according to the magazine, to land at No. 1,741. Forbes said it calculated each person’s wealth based on stock prices and exchange rates on Feb. 13, 2015.
The six-time NBA champion, who is one of 290 newcomers to the list, is the majority shareholder in the Charlotte Bobcats. Although Jordan has deals with Gatorade, Hanes and Upper Deck, his main money-maker is Nike.
The richest team owner on the list is Steve Ballmer (No. 35, $21.5 billion), who bought the Los Angeles Clippers in 2014 following the Donald Sterling scandal.
Seattle Seahawks and Portland Trail Blazers owner Paul Allen (No. 51, $17.5 billion) is the second richest among team owners.
Other notable sports figures on the billionaires list who made the top 500 are Phil Anschutz (No. 104, $11.8 billion), who owns the Los Angeles Kings, LA Galaxy and Houston Dynamo; Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov (No. 125, $9.6 billion); Stanley Kroenke (No. 225, $6.3 billion), who owns the St. Louis Rams, Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche and Arsenal; Patriots owner Robert Kraft (No. 381, $4.3 billion); and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones (No. 393, $4.2 billion).
Congrats MJ! Let us hold somethin’!
