Tony Robinson Death

Th mother of Tony Robinson is speaking out and asking for protestors to remain peaceful in light of her son’s shooting death.

As previously reported the 19-year-old was unarmed when he was shot down by a Wisconsin police officer Friday.

The New York Daily News reports:

An anguished mother called for street protests Saturday after a white cop shot dead her unarmed son during a scuffle in a Madison, Wis., apartment.

“My son has never been a violent person,” Andrea Irwin told local television station WKOW. “And to die in such a violent, violent way — it baffles me.”

Irwin urged peaceful protest in the wake of the shooting.

“Do I hope that this whole city stands up and turns around and says that this is not OK and we’re not going to take it?” she told WKOW-TV. “Absolutely.”

Tony Robinson, 19, who is black, was not carrying a weapon when Officer Matt Kenny — who killed another man in 2007 — began shooting Friday after a brief chase through the state capital.

“He was unarmed,” said Police Chief Mike Koval as protesters gathered for a second straight day. “That’s going to make this all the more complicated for the investigators, for the public to accept.”

Robinson, described by family and neighbors as a peaceful and friendly teen, was inside his apartment around 6:30 p.m. Friday when Kenny forced his way inside, cops said. Kenny was knocked to the ground by a hard shot to the head before firing his gun more than once, fatally wounding the aspiring college student.

The cop performed CPR on the dying victim after the shooting, police said. Authorities said they had received calls about Robinson jumping into traffic and assaulting someone before the pursuit and shooting.

Kenny shot a man in a 2007 “suicide by cop” incident for which he was cleared of any criminal wrong doing after the suspect aimed a pellet gun at him.

“We all deserve to know the facts in this case,” said Madison Mayor Paul Soglin. “Tony Robinson’s family deserves that, our community deserves that, and the Madison police deserve that.”
