BOSSIP’s Uncovering Gender Politics In Rap Business Comes To SXSW Music Festival

BOSSIP’s Deputy Editor Janeé Bolden was in Austin last week for the SXSW Music Festival, where she moderated the “Gender Politics In Rap Business” panel which included esteemed speakers Devi Dev (IHeartMedia), Shanti Das (Press Reset Ent, The Hip-Hop Professional), Aiyisha Obafemi (Disturbing Tha Peace, Ebony Son Entertainment) and Whitney-Gayle Benta (SVP Talent Relations, Revolt TV). The hour-long panel which covered controversial issues including sexism, gender equality and the marketing of both female and male rap artists was well received by a near-packed audience who stayed beyond the planned hour to ask questions and continue the conversation.
