TIME Magazine Features “Black Lives Matter” On Latest Cover
As the old adage goes, “Timing is everything”. Timing can lend itself to praise in addressing a social issue as topical as race, but it can also lend itself to cynicism and criticism by those who said topic affects the most.
In the case of TIME magazine’s latest cover, boldly emblazoned with the revolutionary social media mantra “Black Lives Matter”, a bit of both appears to be true.
While many are championing the magazine for featuring the powerful phrase created by 3 black women (Patrisse Cullors, Alicia Garza, and Opal Tometi). Others are looking at TIME with an indignant side-eye, claiming that the mag is pimping a butterfly and point out that TIME has failed to source any of the protesters and activist who are on the ground leading the movement.
Regardless of TIME’s intentions, it’s hard to argue against having a globally respected magazine broadcast one of the most powerful social messages in recent history on its’ cover.
