He told The New York Times he came up with the idea after reading an article on happiness that said for people who earn less than about $70,000, extra money can have a huge impact on their lives.

The Gender Retirement Gap: Men Have Thousands More Than Women

According to Vox, while the average man had $139,000 sitting in his retirement account in 2012, women only had $82,000 in their IRA account that year. On top of this, women tend to live longer than their male counterparts, so women need to accumulate a greater amount of funds for a longer period of time. The problem, though, is that “we systemically pay [women] less throughout their working lives,” Vox added.

Boko Haram has kidnapped at least 2,000 women and girls in Nigeria over the last year, says a 90-page report released by human right’s organization Amnesty International Tuesday, March 14. The figure is an estimate compiled in part from interviews with several witnesses, the actual number could be much higher. “Our job is to shoot, slaughter and kill’ Boko Haram’s reign of terror. The number of women and girls is likely to be higher than 2,000.”
