7 Moments From Spike Lee’s ‘Bamboozled’ That Predicted Life In 2015

Bamboozled is one of Spike Lee’s most underrated but great films of all time. The movie about a modern-day minstrel show came out in 2000 and is a great example of what’s wrong with race and entertainment. Go back and watch and you’ll notice that there were a few things that happened in the movie that we’re seeing in 2015. Click through and tell us we’re wrong.

The Sick, Twisted Crap We Watch On The Internet – One of the climactic scenes of the movie involves the Mau Maus kidnapping Savion Glover and live-streaming his execution on the Internet. This was pretty ahead of its time for 2000. Now, we’re live-streaming everything and watching ISIS burn people alive on Youtube.

The Fact We’ll Never Stop Getting White People To Wear Black Face – They just won’t ever stop will they?

The Multi-Million Dollar Self-Hate Industry – Pierre Delacroix learned throughout the movie that he can make a ton of money off of self-hate. He could hate his Blackness and put it to shame and make millions from it. The Self-Hate industry is booming in 2015. Just look at GOP Black Chick and Stacy Dash. Some Black people are cashing out on their blackness as often as possible.

Bobby Shmurda’s Label Performance – When Bobby Shmurda got signed, he danced on his record execs’ desks and generally pranced around like an idiot for a bunch of White people. It’s eerily reminiscent to the scene of Savion Glover dancing on the table to get his show on the air. And it makes us sad.

They Showed Televised Police Brutality – At the end of the movie, all of the Mau Maus are gunned down on camera by police. The only surviving member is the white one. He gets arrested without harm.

Tyler Perry –The movie basically predicted an empire based on debilitating images of Blackness in show business. For some, Tyler Perry is the personification of that message. His TV shows look just like the shows on Bamboozled to some…all he needs is a fake French accent.

Lupe Fiasco – The Mau Maus were basically Lupe Fiasco’s alter-egos in one group. They were fake revolutionary, pseudo-intellectuals who took themselves way too seriously. These guys were basically Lupe 1.0.
