Maryland Senator Catherine Pugh Attacked For Empathizing With Baltimore Protesters
Pissed off protesters are people too…
Donning a smart black jacket, she shared an emotional hug with a protester wielding a bottle.
Shortly after, she angrily told a Fox News host that demonstrators were not looking for trouble.
Now, Maryland State Senator Catherine E. Pugh is under fire for ’empathizing’ with the hundreds of people who were taking to the streets of Baltimore armed with rocks and bottles on Tuesday night.
The 65-year-old was accused of being ‘foolish’ and ‘an embarrassment’ by social media users for defending protesters in the city, which has been the scene of riots following Freddie Gray’s death.
Ms Pugh’s heartfelt embrace with the protester was captured as she urged crowds to disperse ahead of a 10pm curfew, which was imposed across the city by officials in a bid to prevent further violence.
The previous day, the senator had told protesters: ‘I’m asking people in Baltimore, please let’s quell the violence. If we want to protest, we can begin tomorrow but let’s do it in a peaceful way. That is the only way the public gets to see that we care about our city, that we care about violence against our people and we can do better than what’s being done today.’
This is what it’s come to, ladies and gentlemen. People despise the black citizens of B-More so much that they won’t even afford them a hug from a state senator.
