“We The Best’s” First Lady Breaks Down Playfully Raunchy Hit Song, “Saturday”
You may not know the name Steph Lecor, but you’ve probably heard her ode to sun, sand and sex, “Saturday,” burning up the radio.
The bass-heavy track is laden with plenty of raunch-factor: “I got up early on Saturday/I did some shopping on Saturday/I got some head/I got a check/ He ate the booty on Saturday!!”
And the Miami native said that’s how everyone’s favorite day of the week can unfold in her home city.
“I honestly heard it, and I think its such a fun, sexy record, and it just embodies the lifestyle down there,” Lecor told BOSSIP. “It’s just a fun record. I pride myself on being true to who I am, and I would never say anything that I couldn’t stand beside.”
Taking a risk by recording “Saturday” was what helped her land an audience with DJ Khaled. Her manager, E-Class, sat her down one day and asked her to be open-minded as he played the song.
“We recorded it, and everyone loved it,” Lecor recalled. “And Khaled heard it and the next day I went out to meet him, and everything started from there.”
The 27-year-old’s newfound fame has been a long time coming. Lecor has been singing professionally for the past decade. After a stint as a background singer for both Van Halen and Kimani Marley, she joined a pop/edm group, “Kulture Shock.” She later left the group, and a year ago, began working on her solo album.
“I just feel a little in awe of everything happening,” Lecor said. “I’ve been in this industry for a while, grinding, working, but never getting to the next level. So I’m just sitting back and enjoying the ride.”
Lecor’s next stop is Las Vegas, where she’ll perform July 4th with DJ Khaled at TAO nightclub.
“I’m definitely excited and can’t wait to go there,” she said. “Wherever the record is playing, I want to be.”
