… New research by the journal Personality and Social Psychology Review showed that perfectionists suffered from high rates of workplace burnout that often led to other damaging effects such as chronic stress, harsh self-criticism and even heart disease and chronic depression… [Psychologist Andrew Hill] and his team analyzed 43 studies on perfectionism over the past 20 years… The researchers looked at two types of perfectionism, perfectionistic strivings and perfectionistic concerns. The strivings are often defined by people that set high personal goals and are proactive in their achievement. This trait was not linked to burnout, however the perfectionist concerns often surrounding those with a fear of failure, letting oneself as well as other down and always needing validation created tons of burnout.
